What detergent do y'all use? I have a front loader. My diapers always seem to smell as soon as urine hits them despite washing according to directions- I have Bum Genius and use Charlies Soap or BioKleen. Thanks!!!!1

I have never had a smell issue with my bumgenius 3.0. I originally used Method for babies and have since switched (too many chemicals) to Nellie's laundry powder which I love.

I got my washing instructions from a diaper service here in town...one short cold rinse...one long hot wash with a very small amount of detergent ( I use Charlies but the diaper service swears by BioKleen... (the owner claims too much detergent is usually the culprit for smelly diapers)...another short rinse with vinegar. Also, putting in the sun as often as possible and keeping fabric softener out of the dryer...it can leave a residue on the dryer that can transfer. I also use BioKleen BacOut in the first rinse about every three washes. And do a stripping about 1 time per month (a few hot washes w/out detergent). Oh and Tea tree can help too! Can you tell I hate stinky pants! :)

I also have a front loader. I do a prewash with baking soda, then a regular wash with Tide Free: Sensitive Skin, then I add white vinegar with a few drops of tea tree oil in the last rinse (I just put it in the fabric softener section of my soap dispenser).

I have a front loader and used to toss in about a cup of white vinegar with mine and never had any problems. I also just used ivory snow as a detergent and no fabric softener. when i put them in the pail after use and before washing i put in some with the water before i wash them - maybe a 1/4 cup to 5 L of water? i also found sund rying them to be a great brightener and mine always smelled so good...good luck!

I've found the key to non-smelly diapers (BumGenius and other microfiber insert diapers) is RINSE, RINSE, RINSE. I also have a front loader machine. I've used Charlie's and now I use Allen's Naturally. It takes a lot of water to get all that soap out. After my wash cycle, I'll usually do at least 3 quick hot washes and I add 2-3 gallons of hot water to each one. It takes a lot of time, but it has eliminated the smell factor for my diapers. Detergent build-up makes them smell quickly!

Good luck!

Although it has protiens or something in it that makes it not the greatest for washing cloth, I use All free and clear in my front loader to wash my diapers. Never have had a problem with smell or with absorbancy or anything really.

You know....I have just had problems with BumGenius holding smells as well even though I follow all the directions. Hmmm.
