Washing Cloth Wipes

Tara - posted on 02/11/2011 ( 7 moms have responded )

Hi everyone! I'm new to cloth diapering and I want to try using cloth wipes. I have a 8month old who's poo can be very nasty. Any suggestions on how I should store and wash dirty cloth wipes? Thank you!

wash with the diapers. Store in a wipe box (like the ones toss away wipes come in) make sure that you get a sturdy plastic one. I use baby wash cloths. 15 will fit in the container use an empty baby wash bottle mix a few drops of baby oil and a capfull of baby wash or baby shampoo. Fill the rest of the bottle with hot water (so the oil will mix). Pour the mix on the wipes. They are good for about 3 days.

I stored our dirty nappies and wipes in a dry pail and bunged them in the washing machine on the 65 degree wash every 2-3 days. We live in a flat with a veranda so we kept the nappy pail on the veranda - LOL!

Our wipes never got really bad though, becaue we wiped the worst of it off with tissues then just did the cleanup with the wipes.

If there is excess poop left on the cloth then I will rinse it off, but it comes off the my cloth wipes far easier than off the diapers. I throw them in the bag with all the dirty diapers too. Nothing extra should need to do :)

we have a diaper sprayer hooked up to our toilet so i spray any poop off of the wipe when i spray the poop out of the diaper. wipes get thrown in the diaper pail with the diapers.

I found the easiest thing for me is to rinse them out in the sink, and then store/wash them with my diapers.
