What do you know about the Gro Baby diapers? (Due out in March '09.)

[deleted account] ( 14 moms have responded )

I'm new to CD...I have a 7 month old and am finally going to make the change over!

Has anyone tried these (or the Dream-Eze AIO by the same company)? Here is the link: http://www.thenaturalbabyco.com/gro-baby...

(I was debating between these or the BumGenius Organic, but am leaning toward these.)

What are your thoughts/experiences? Thanks!

I am new to cloth diapering... but have decided to give it a try after my 10 month old has had a red butt since day one! So I am recently set up with Gro Baby and so far it's great! Super easy transition from disposable and they seem to work great. We'll see about the red butt, but I'm thinking it should help.

Yeah, a photo would be great. Dream Eze do tend to be narrower than a pocket diaper because there is no stuffing (but one great benefit because there is less bulk). One suggestion would be to move out one snap. At 27 lbs, you may need to adjust outward. Finally, you can position the diaper a bit lower when you put it on (lower back). Sometimes when the diaper is put on too high in the back and too low in the front, the most narrow part of the diaper could be positioned incorrectly and cause some cheek escape....

I have two chubby babies and Dream Eze have always worked great. Belle, my 3.5 year old can still fit in a large, so you have some room to grow! Let me know if this helps.... and if you have time, a photo would be awesome!

Oh, one last tip, fold the cotton up before you fold the outer shell. The cotton flaps do go against baby's skin. Some have accidentally put the wings against tommy first and then the two cotton flaps with the outer... does that make sense?

Sarah, I'm so happy you responded here! I just bought my first Dream-Eze diaper and I love it AND have a question about it. I bought a large for my 11 month old 27 pound son. And his little cheeks hang out on both sides. I LOVE the materials the diaper is made of, and so want to make this work for him. do they run kinda small, or do you think I got an odd one? He has yet to pooh in it in the 3 or 4 times he's worn it, but I'm worried about that...When I set the diaper on top of some other large size pockets or all in ones we have it is sooooooo much smaller. I'd say at least an inch on ALL sides. I could take a pic if that would help. I'd love any feedback you may have about it. :)

I'm going to find a place to get the Gro Baby diapers, too. For my son and to use on our next baby. They look really great. Way to come out with something so new and innovative!!!!!! :D

HI! Sorry it has been a few days... very busy. I have put you on MT Diapers wait-list for Gro Baby. Yes, payment when things are shipped. So, what is your e-mail address??? You can e-mail me directly at sarah@thenaturalbabyco.com or leave it here! Whatever works best.

You are going to be so thrilled with Gro Baby!!! Talk to you soon.

Great info--thank you. I'd like to get on the wait list...does this still mean that we would get the Gro Baby when it comes out in March? Or is it a list for beyond that?

I more question: have you only found a need for a booster during the night?

So you can put me on the wait list? I'd be interested in: 6 shell sets (2 of each color) and 5 packs of soakers. I assume we pay when they are to be shipped?

Thank you!

I have personally been using Gro Baby exclusively. Dorothy is 18 months and we do just fine with 5 shell sets (they each come with one soaker pad and one booster). So, in total, my stash is 5 shells, 12 soakers, and 3 boosters.

If my baby were younger and wetting / pooping more often, I think that I would prefer to have more shells. Also, like any other garment, diapers will ware. So, if you are changing 8 diapers a day and you have at least one "blow out" you will need a min. of 3 shells for that day. Also, testers have been reporting that they generally put baby in a fresh shell before bed. So, you could potentially use 4 shells in one day - but really it depends on baby and your diapering routine!

Once you are using the Gro Baby system you will know how many shell sets you will really need. I would recommend starting with at least 6 or 7 shell sets, 4 packs of soakers (2 p/pack) and 1 or 2 additional packs of boosters.

For night time, we love Gro Baby! I generally use one soaker and a booster. To test, I have used two soakers (no boosters) and it's not too bulky - it worked great!

Yes, at Montana's Diaper Store (www.mtdiaperstore.com) we have a wait-list. So, if you are interested let me know and I can get you added!! We ship to Canada everyday, so that's no problem.

Thanks for becoming a fan!!!

Thanks, Amber, for your suggestion and Sarah for your thorough reply!

Sarah, I have the same question as Maria--10 shells does sound like a lot. I was assuming laundry every other day or so or every 3rd day at the most...do you still recommend that many of each that you listed?

Do you think we still would need to be on a waitlist if ordering from the Montana Diaper Store?

I've heard these are still good for nighttime too--do you agree, Sarah?

Ok, I found the list of retailers, but there is only one in Canada, all the way in Calgary. Should I try to get them to ship to Victoria or can I order online directly from your company?

Sarah, where can I see a list of retailers to see if anyone is going to be selling these diapers in my community (Victoria). Also, 10 shell sets sound like a lot, doesn't the website say you would go through 2 shells a day?

Also, Dream Eze AIO are great too! A nice supplement to a Gro Baby stash. These are the number one rates AIO on Diaper Pin!

All of our cotton is certified ORGANIC!!! The colors are super fun and the durability is top notch!

Hi, I am one of the partners with The Natural Baby Company and you will LOVE Gro Baby. This diaper is a year in the making and was designed by leading outdoor designers (Patagonia, Burton, Oakley, and Simms). The materials are the most innovative and we are the first to bring these fabrics to the cloth diapering community!!!

Gro Baby is great because of the removable soaker inserts. When baby wets, just snap in a new soaker! You will have smaller loads of laundry and it is by far more economical - you can diaper for about $20 p / mo (10 shell sets, 5 soaker sets, and 3 booster sets is all you need)! And, the greatest thing is that they are ONE SIZE!!!

Finally, I wanted to respond to the "made in China" comment. Yes, we do manufacture our diapers in China and I have been to the factory myself. The working conditions are far superior than factories that I have seen here in the US. We strive to provide great wages and great working conditions for all employees!!!

So - yes, wait for Gro Baby. They will be hitting retailers in about three weeks. Several retailers have wait-lists and I would recommend getting on one!!! Let me know if you have any questions!

I just started CD-ing but had g-diapers. I got some MF inserts and prefolds and put them in my g-diapers and it has worked great. I like that when I am out (or at night) I just add the regular insert and during the day I use cloth. An option that you might consider. Those gro baby diapers look pretty cool though!

I was wondering about those, too. I am, however concerned about them being made in China.
