After 2 boys we are pregnant with a girl. We are considering using cloth diapers with her.

How have you enjoyed the difference?

Any tips on how to get started? (Where and what to buy)

I know absolutely nothing about cloth diapering so any insight would be helpful. I would really like to do this with our 3rd...... and will probably wish I had with the first two. :o)

Hello i have used cloth diapers for 4 months with my second child and i love them i have tried every type and i like the All In One clothe diapers like the bum genus. but the ones i got are called Babyland and are about $5 a diaper off of ebay and work just as good if not better then the pricey ones. My suggestion is to use a soap like charlies soap to avoid stinky build up that happens with alot of the soaps like tide and such. The Babyland diapers i have don't have any bad odors to them and i only wash every three days though i do use charlies soap which leaves no residue. Hope you can find what works best for you and your family.

Catherine with bouncing babies conducts Cloth Diapering Workshops where you can learn about different varieties of cloth diapers as well as touch & feel them. I am positive she's having one soon. You can check it out at http://www.bouncingbabies.ca/

try etsy, you can find them (fitteds) for pretty cheap. i sell them on there for only $7 and they are made when you order them so they're easily customizable to what fabric or prints you want.
cloth diapers are awesome. they dont stink like sposies and will save you thousands of dollars. and once you get the hang of them, there is no going back! :D

I suggest investing in some prefolds for the newborn stage, you can make them fit perfectly. I like Natasha's draw string idea as well! you will need about 24 diapers and 4 or 5 covers if you plan to wash every 2nd day. I invested in a diaper spayer and love it! I have a NB and use prefolds on him, I prefer them over the fitted diapers because I can get that perfect fit. I also have 3 other children 2 of which are in diapers ages 1 and 2, I use pocket diapers on them because I find they are squirmy and pocket diapers are easier.

I have a Vancouver BC based home business where my partner and i make our own design of cloth diapers called Green Line. Our diapers are one size fitting newborn -35lbs. They consist of 1 microfibre soaker, 1 waterproof holder and a very funky printed diaper cover. The legs are drawstring making them fully adjustable to suit any child. Because of the unique design Green Line diapers don't require a new holder and cover for each change, reducing the cost of an entire Green Line Cloth Diaper Set. Please email me ( greenlinediapers@gmail.com ) for more information or send me a message through Circle Of Moms.

You'll find that there is a lot of abbreviations in the cloth diapering world. You can check out kellyscloset.com as well to buy diapers. I started out with Thristie covers and just plan birdseye flat diapers. It worked fine. I used them on my daugher and now on my son. His covers didn't fit him until he was 9 lbs though. Now he's 10 months old and I've switched to making my own. They are like Blueberry brand diapers. I prefer snaps as the aplix will gather lint and will tear away over time and excessive use. I only started out with 8 covers and 24 flats so I was washing twice a day. On line you can type in homemade laundry detergent and find a recipe for a detergent that is diaper friendly and is way less expensive than Allen's Soap or Charlie's soap, but works just as great. Good luck, I love doing it, and I agree with the other moms...a spray is a must!!!

here is another suggestion. if you cloth diaper, then a sprayer for your toilet is a must have! they make the poopy messes so much easier than trying to clean it out in the toilet w/o one! Really one of my favorite purchases!

I'm due Sept '09 as well! I used cloth for my second daughter and I loved them and kinda hated them. They are way more eco-friendly which is great but they are pricey but you do get your money out of them compaired to what you would be spending on disposables. I tried fuzzybuns and I hated them. I don't like any of the diapers that you have to use a cover over, its just an added pain. I tried the old school cloth diapers as well but didn't care for those. I ended up using bumgenius all in ones with the inserts. I didn't start cloth diapering until my daughter was about 6 months old or so, so I'm not sure about how well newborn cloth diapering goes. I have the all in one bumgenius diapers that don't have inserts, they are essentially like a disposable diaper but you have to wash them. The only thing I didn't like about them was they stink. Because they have no insert to pull out and wash they just stink! I usually ran mine through the washer a couple times and they would still stink. After several months of using those I gave up on them all together because of not being able to get the stink out, I even followed the steps to 'stripping' them but they still had a smell to them. Along with that they didn't absorb as much pee after she got a little older and she was constantly peeing out of them after just one pee. I would recommend the BunGenius with the inserts. I had no issues with them and I somehow managed to only buy 7 of them and use them exclusively for about a year! Its just a lot of laundry, figure on washing diapers every day and they have to go through the wash a couple times to get the smell out also so it takes a while but eventually it will just become part of your routine. Also with using them you have to totally change your washer soap because the additives in most soap will get the diapers all gunked up and they will not absorb anything anymore. I started using Charlie's soap, I found it online. At the time they did free shipping, I'm not sure if they do anymore though, I found a store that sells it so I buy it there. Its $13 for a bag of the powder and it seriously lasts so long. Its such a better value than regular washer soap from any of the stores. I am not cloth diapering anymore but I will be in the fall, and I am still using the soap. You'll have to use that soap for the diapers but also you'll need to do all your washing with that type of soap because other soap will build up in your washer and then when you wash the diapers it will get into them. It was a smart move switching to the Charlie's soap and now I wouldn't use anything else! I would search online, do a google search for the best deals. Just type in the type you plan to buy and go under 'shopping'. I have several website booked for the bumgenius with comparisons on prices and shipping costs you can send me a message and i'll let you know all the websites. Diapers.com has bumgenius and they are a good price. New diapers.com customers can use a code to get $10 off your first purchase and free shipping. They always have advertisements in any of the baby magazines for this offer. I used that and spent under $90 on 6. Also there is a website called diaperswap.com (i'm pretty sure that is it) and people sell thier used/sometimes new diapers on there for low prices. I've never bought from there but I have a friend who swears by it and won't get her diapers anywhere else. I would recommend not going for the diapers that have a lot of snaps too b/c once the baby gets old enough the squirm around alot during diapers, which will def happen LOL, the snaps are insane hard to manage! Fuzzi buns have the snaps and like I said they were a pain and also they didn't hold a lot, in my opinion and the covers are an added hassle. Whatevr you get I would stick to somethign that is an all-in-one with inserts and velcro closures. buying white ones instead of the colored are a good plan too if you are plannin on more children. With my daughter I almost bought pink ones then decided on the white, I'm glad I did because I'm expecting a boy now and none of the diapers would be any good! Hope this helped!

I just started with CD's on my 3 month old girl and I have really enjoyed using them. I was very unsure of the whole thing at first but my aunt is making them so I told her I'd give them a try. she has a website where she is selling them but there isn't much on there yet since she is just starting out and doesn't have very many clients yet. But she will be happy to take orders and make them as she goes if you are inrerested. Her website is http://hyenacart.com/ThePamperedTush and her email address is wendy@thepamperedtush.com. I have had a lot of success with the diapers she has made me, no problems with leaking or anything. I use wool covers and love them so much better then plastic ones. She would be able to answer any questions you might have better then I would since I am still pretty new at the whole thing.

I love CD's. I started with disposable and used them until ds was about 3 months then fund a store in my area that sold them. I cant stand the smell of disposables. As soon as they pee once its horrible!! I definalty suggest using prefolds at first. You have to have alot of diapers and thses are the cheapest. no point in spending a ton on something they will only fit for a month or 2. They have sprayers that attach to the toilet that make life much easier! I shop at cutietooties.com. You can also join twitter and there are a ton of moms and sellers on there who can give you tips and help you find who has what on sale. Good luck!!!
