i am planning to use cloth diapers with my second son (due April 2010) and am seriously considering making my own AIOs, has anyone done this? if so what are your favorite materials for making them? i am thinking of using PUL for outer and some fleece or flannel on the inside as well as some wool for the inner layers possibly cotton..... i am obviously new to this and am attempting to use a lot of materials i already have. thanks

I love bamboo french terry with zorb inside. I am really into the pocket diapers, so I make that for inserts. I find that it does not smell and really wicks the moisture away.
I use micro-fleece for the part that touches baby and PUL on the outside. I prefer snaps mostly so they last longer.
I just found that wazoodle is offering kits to make fitted diapers.

I am planning on making my own as well, not sure how it will all go, i am having a hard time finding PUL, and i was tempted to buy the plastic diaper covers they sell at walmart (which can get expensive doing it this way) and cutting them and using that PEVA material they are made with but if someone knows where to buy PUL by the yard that would be awsome :)

Update: I made a few little comet tails one size diapers. I love them!!!
They are slimmer than the bum genius, but not too slim to cause leaks. Also, I love that I used snaps so my toddler can not take them off!
I used PUL outter layer and micorfleece inner fabric, with Zorb and bamboo inserts. They work great!!!

I am making my own. I made new born fitted diapers (24 for a set) out of fleece or t-shirts. I used a pattern called darling diapers newborn diaper. It called for snaps, but I borrowed a snap plier from a friend.
I used the same pattern for covers and just made them out of PUL.
I made some pocket diapers from a pattern I bought on esty, but it was not much bigger than the newborn diapers. It does fit my 17 month old, but just barely. I used PUL outer, miro fleece inside and bamboo/zorb inserts. I converted the pattern to a pocket myself. I am trying little comet tails one size, but it has to be shipped to me. I like snaps, but there are options of velcro out there. I use two yahoo groups and diaper swappers for research.
Good luck and happy sewing
