Anyone have any suggestions to get my 7 month old to sleep at least half the night at a time?? He takes a bottle right before bed, I have been putting oatmeal in it thinking it will keep him full so he will sleep longer. But he is up every 2 or 3 hours all night long, but wont take more than a 45 minute nap during they day. A friend of mine suggested melatonin but I'm not sure if giving him a supplement (even though natural) is the RIGHT thing to do. I don't want to feel like I'm cheating. My grandmother (who had 5 babies all in 36 months 1 singleton then 2 sets of twins YIKES) said that all her babies sleep thru the night because they slept on their bellies, and if she put them on their backs they were up every couple hours. I know that they say NO NO NO BELLY but could trying it hurt?? IDK Please advice anyone!!!! I am a tired mommy because I still have 2 other boys to run after and my hubby just doesn't have the softness to deal with a baby at 2 am.

DO NOT GIVE HIM MELATONIN! He may just be teething. My son was a horrible sleeper for forever and now he sleeps great! It just takes a while, especially if his teeth are hurting him. Some babies learn quicker than others. He may also wake up becuase he knows he gets your undivided attention at that time too. I did not have the heart to do the CIO method, but there is variation of it that allows you to stay near him for a while and come in and check on him. Try the book suggested earlier (Easy Sleep Solution). And don't give up hope!

The Sleep Easy Solution!!! It's a book, it's not "easy" but it works. You do have to let your child cry but they have a very loving way to help your child learn to put himself to sleep and back to sleep when he wakes up in the middle of the night from a light sleep cycle (not if he has a real issue, then you respond right away). I'm not sure if you are against the CIO method but it worked for both of our boys. They both sleep great now. When I had my oldest I was still responding to every waking and assisting him back to sleep until he was 7 or 8 months old. I was so exhausted I couldn't do anything anymore, this book saved my sanity and got me AND him some sleep. He also became a much happier kid after he started sleeping better. It was great. The book takes about a week to work and about 10-14 days for him to consistently sleep through the night. Naps take a little longer to be good every day, about 3 weeks I'd say. Good luck!!
