Why not vaccinate?

The main reason i vaccinate my daughter (i hate to admit) is just because everyone does it. I have done no research, other than side effects because it freaks me out. So i am ignorant on purpose. Today is the first day i have talked to women who chose not to vaccinate and i am totally confused as to why they would make that choice!

I am a huge fan of the vaccination program but i am open to having my mind changed :D

So ladies, why did you choose not to vaccinate?

I don't want attacks for making an uninformed decision thank you. That's why i chose this group to ask :) You're nice.

Felicia...maybe you misunderstood that statement bc that is true...the only 2 was you are able to have the virus dormant in your nerve cells is if you have previously had the virus injected (the vaccine) or have had the chicken pox (Varicella-zoster) virus at some point in your life.

The virus has to be present in you body to manifest as
shingles (herpes zoster) later in life.

"only way you are able to come down with shingles is 1. You have had the disease or 2. You have recieved the vaccination.." COMPLETELY UNTRUE! Shingles is the same VIRUS as the chicken pox with different effects. I know this because I had chicken pox as a child ... never had shingles nor did I get the vaccine for it... but 6 weeks ago was diagnosed with it. What the doctor informed me is that once you've contracted the chicken pox virus it never leaves your body. Your body, in fact, stores it in your spinal column ... which is why stress is the primary cause for shingles ... your nerves are strained due to stress and start re-activating the virus. Shingles are very painful; that is the only variance to chicken pox. And just so everyone is clear ... I am only 30.

Vaccinating your child is not just for the child's health and benefit but for other children as well. Viruses are very dangerous in a way that they can mutate if brought up again. If a child hasn't been vaccinated for the measles (as an example) and they get it and it mutates, it could cause the vaccinated children to get it as well because they are not protected against the new gene.

I will say that I DO NOT get my son the flu shot, and my family does not get it either. I did not get him the swine flu shot at all but I do believe in the regular vaccines.

Whooping cough is only deadly for the first 6 months so I think I'll just be super protective of her until then. Besides the most deadly is the first two months when no baby is vaccinated anyways so 2-6 months is when vax kids have some protection, but not full protection til the series of shots is complete....

Oh okay :) So would you vaccinate Fierna against whooping cough now? There's a bit of an epidemic going on at the moment down here so i am very glad baby and i are both immunized!

Yeah that sounds good, waiting til she's 2 :) At least she still gets the most important vaccines but not when it's most dangerous as a tiny baby.

I think Ceili's done now until she's 4, i looked into it all a bit late lol but next child i might consider waiting for some of the more dangerous live virus ones.

Laura Zoey - posted on 06/24/2011

Yeah that's why I am currently thinking I'll vaccinate Fierna with a few ones when she is 2, that way she is a big girl with two years of bf-ing and good wrong immune system before I go injecting her with that stuff, but I still feel like I did my 'civic duty' in keeping these diseases under control. But whooping cough in particular kills newborns alot, and they are almost always infected by adults! Adults get whooping cough easily and it's just a minor cold like disease by adulthood so adults don't even know they have it, then they pass it to babies.
Adults need boosters! There's far more adults who don't get their boosters then there is unvaccinated children.

I'm almost positive they can. Vaccination is really forced on us here! They continuously put stories on the news about babies dying.
There was a newborn who died from whooping cough because an older baby wasn't vaccinated and gave it to him. That kinda swayed me towards vaccinating!

so i get a weekly letter in the mail pushing immunisation and asking me to send them a letter regarding why i chose not to vaccinate! Drives me insane hahaha
According to those letters, there are prettymuch no childcare, kinder or primary school facilities that will accept non-vaccinated children????

Every state has waivers, some medical some personal some religious. So you have to look at your state laws and find what waiver you have to sign stating you refuse the shots.
Think about it, if they cant guarantee the shots are completely safe, they surely can't force anyone to get them because then if they forced you to get the shot and you had a horrible reaction you could hold them liable.
So no shot is mandatory. Some states are harder to get exempted but all at least have medical waivers.

I just wanted to ask out of curiosity cause all my kids have gotten every vaccine suggested (with no side effects at all) but anyways perhaps some of you havent gotten there yet, but in my kids school if they dont have certain vaccines they dont go to school...how do you get around that?

Except Guardasil which we will not be getting only because I dont think it is necessary, its to prevent HPV which is sexually transmitted, my daughter doesnt need that.

I took a middle-of -the-road approach. My kids never had any shots until six months old. It was actually what my doctor recommended. It gives the little ones time to be bigger and stronger before they get their shots.

Vaccines save lives. Not just from death but from scarring, blindness, crippling pain and a host of other issues. My son has had every shot I could get him and all tha'ts left right now is the Gardisil which I need to go to Planned Parenthood for because our insurance won't cover it even though its' approved.

True, chicken pox may not be lethal and just annoying. However why not prevent one more disease and keep our children healthy. It's PROVEN that the link between vaccines and autism was FALSE! (not only false but he did it in order to sell his own brand of vaccines).

its not on her records though! at all! it was coz she was pooing blood and stuff i'm pretty sure but the nurses didn't seem to understand i bled 1.9 litres of blood into the womb so that's where the bloods from! They kept saying no it's her blood and i'm like ahh no it's mine! Then they made me keep every dirty nappy in my room with me because they needed to be collected and tested but of course they weren't so we stunk out the whole room with them! What a joyous week! lol

The heel prick also tests their blood sugar, which again is really important. My daughter had such dangerously low blood sugar when she was born, they had to feed her right away and incubate her. So I can't understand not wanting to have the heel prick done. My poor daughter ended up with MORE heel pricks to check on her, but it was totally necessary.

Don't know anything about taking blood though - I never had that with either of my kids. You could always ask your doctor.

Honestly i probably would have said yes to all of the routine needles and heal pricks coz i didnt know any better!
My main problem was that they did 4 blood tests on her! The routine one and then 3, 1 in each arm but couldnt get enough blood and then went for her other heal! I wasnt consulted about any of that and i knew it was 100% pointless and i was sooooo pissed off when she came back covered in band aids! stupid nurses!

The heel prick is super important IMO, it tests for genetic disorders that if doughy early can be prevented from hurting the baby, and others that can be treated immediately for best outcomes. Many of the ones they test for won't show up for years, but if cought early they have such a better outcome.
I hate having to do it, but to me it's 100% worth it.
Just plan to be bfing her while they stick her so she has comfort through the pain.

Yes I don't think vitamin k shot is a bad thing, just that it is given even if not necessary. If there's any worry about a baby being at risk for a brain bleed I'd give the shot in a heart beat. But when birth happens smoothly and normally there simply isn't reason to be injecting anything into the baby! As I said, since I chose circumcision with my son I chose to give him the vitamin k shot. But now that I'd never circ another baby the only reason I'd give the vitamin k shot is if the birth was somehow traumatic or risky and I felt the baby was at risk for bleeds.

I'm sorry you have had such bad experiences with your doctors Nichole, but in my country doctors aren't generally like it. I've never come across one.
Immunizations are free here for everyone and done by nurses usually so it's not a money making scheme at all. I also only paid i think $160 for my whole pregnancy and post natal care including up to 4 years of free psychologist appointments. I don't think anything in my baby having experience was for the money, If you can't trust doctors, who can you trust?
Thanks Laura! I am pretty much convinced that next time round i will old off on the hep B!
The vitamin K i was told was necessary for my daughter coz there was blood in her mecconium (can't spell it sorry lol) and in her vomit. I was farely sure it was my blood but it's a pretty small precaution :)

Are you Australian Jodi? lol :)
I don't know what they do elsewhere but yeah, here the doctors make no money from immunizations as far as i know and they are most definitely recommended! We're even paid to do them lol

Eye ointment and vitamin k and hep b shot are all avoidable if you sign a waiver saying you do not consent to them. With my first I waved the hep b shot but since we chose to circumcise I gave him the vit k shot, and since I knew no risks for the eye drops I said I didn't mind.
This time I'm waving all three, unless I have some sort of birth complication in which I feel she might need to have the vit k shot.
If you leave the cord unclamped until it stops sending blood to the baby, then the baby gets a ll their blood in their system and so has much more clotting agents then if they clamp the cord immediately like is standerd policy.
Also breastfeeding frequently, 2 hours or more, will refuse the risk of a bleed so much.
Hep b must doesn't make sense to me, sure it is an awful disease if you catch it, but it's so hard to catch without having sex with an infected person. So unless mom is infected I see no reason to vax a newborn. Especially since it's one of the most aluminum in that shot. Way more then the FDA regulated safe amount. Makes no sense to me.

Look up how the FDA a few weeks ago stated how America has no right to healthy food. They basically said we have no right to be healthy. In a country where THE people who monitor our food say this...... when do you begin to start wondering what is in our food? Our vaccinations? Anything else they claim is 'safe' for us?

Newborn Eye Drops
Eye drops have changed recently in many states. In the past Silver Nitrate was used routinely and this burned a baby's eyes, while trying to prevent infection. Now, more commonly you will find Erythromycin used. Make sure you ask.

Vitamin K
This is usually an injection given after the birth. Your baby isn't born with intact clotting factors. This started being common and become law when forceps deliveries were very common, to help prevent bleeding in the brain because of the extra trauma to the baby's head. Today we are still using this state law and giving babies vitamin K routinely, despite the fact that forceps deliveries have changed and occur less frequently.

Hepatitis Vaccine
This vaccine is now mandatory in 36 states. You have two choices for when to start this vaccine, at birth or at the two month check up. If you choose to have this vaccine, I encourage you to assess your own risk of hepatitis before deciding when to have this vaccine done.

This all happens within the first hours of your babies life. Stuff that most of us do not think about, are asked about, nor have the choice over in some instances if it is state law? It's a pest. I barely found out about the Hep vaccine being done to newborns right before I was going to deliver (39 weeks for me).

I'd feel like I did the best with the information I had. The problem is your not 100% vaccinated against any disease you are vaccinating against anyway, so the fact they keep pushing them is absurd. I just wish they gave us a choice in the states. Unless we file a 'reason' not to want to vaccinate our kids its state law and mandatory. Everyone acts like it has to be done. The flu vaccine is the grosses to me. I know LOTS of people who got this and still got VERY ill, by getting very bad strings of flu viruses that lasted for almost a month. It was going around the town we lived in about a year ago. Most flus run their course then end and when they come back they have mutated anyway so the flu shots to me are unnecessary and its JUST a flu. For peets sake. We are all going to get sick and if you are healthy and eat well, my family and I only get sick sick once every 2-3 years. Minor sniffles here and there but vitamins and proper produce and dietary keeps most of it away anyway.

You really should read up on Gardasil. You know if they catch cervical cancer in the early stages anyway (which we all go through yearly testing for) its a simple procedure of freezing your insides to treat.

During one of my yearly checkups, I got a phone call back saying I was high risk for HPV so they wanted to do further testing. Do you know what further testing is? They bring you in and saw off a part of your insides! No pain medicine, nothing. They just chop away. My mom told me how it was the worst pain she'd ever felt so when they said I was high risk I said ok, no testing thanks, if it gets worse I'll just get it frozen and fix the whole thing without being sawed into. A year later, the doctors didn't even know what I was talking about and my file showed NOTHING in it. Guess what? They just wanted money. It happens alot by us because the women who go to the Planned Parenthood clinics and don't have to pay usually do not ask why they need tests done (they don't have to pay and trust the doctors so why should they?) and therefore they just go through will all this stuff even though they aren't necessary. I've talked to alot of women who deal with that clinic and they all think they get messed with in that way, to take unnecessary tests. I think the office is just trying to make money. Also, I got a bill in the mail from my pregnancy bloodwork which had the same test done an extra 24 times so the clinic was sending me a bill for 130$. I asked what for, they said that's the portion not covered by my insurance. However, I had state and you pay nothing for pregnancy related things with this so I knew they were full of crap. I dealt with them for months, before finally turning the paperwork back into the state healthcare program again and telling them to check for fraud because the same test shouldnt be done 24 times and they told me I shouldn't be getting billed. I haven't heard a word of it since. My statement they sent me simply said I owed 130$. It looked official, was from the hospital and all but said NO reason why I was getting this bill. How many people just believe they have to pay huh? It's such a scam. A day to day basis around here, even with simple crap, you know?

My dad went into that clinic and they couldn't help him so we transfered him (FOR A DOG BITE) it took the next hospital 10 minutes, a snip and a few stitches to get my dad done and dealt with. The hospital that didn't do anything, sent us a bill for over 800$. The hospital that fixed my dad, 400$. Tell me how that is logical or fair? It's a joke.

I have insurance now and went to my normal doctor with muscle spasms, paid cash, cost me 65$. Went to a big hospital to get it looked at a few weeks later because the regular doctor told me they could do an ultrasound to make sure it was just spasms and not anything else. The new doctor laughed at me, said it was swollen, didn't say anything about spasms, and walked out the door. I got a bill in the mail where she tried to charge my insurance 500$ for this. Excuse me?! And my insurance was informing me that I might have to pay 100-200$ of what they wouldn't cover for the bill............ for a doctor to be less informative of the first, and screw my insurance company over. That's what we get.

It's a nightmare. Our system is corrupt. It's crap. It's so hard to get the truth anymore, or find a doctor who cares. However, the system we are putting in its place is going to be WORSE because there will be even less monitoring going on. The best thing for us would be to go to cash only and wipe out all insurance companies.

It's just a mess. Day to day a mess. So of course after years of dealing with all of this, of dealing with doctors who don't care, of following laws...... we don't trust them anymore. It's as simple as that..

That's why I'm not saying I'm not going to vaccinate ever, just not until at least she's two years old.
Idk if polio and diptheria are gone because of shots or not. I've seen convincing articles both ways, but if the shots did cause the diseases to go away, then I feel it's my duty to keep it going. But not by risking my baby. So I'll wait until she is older and then fulfil whatever 'moral obligation' I feel by vaccinating her.
Win win IMO

Do you think they are rare because of the immunizations? If everyone chose not to immunize there would be a lot more kids with diptheria and polio right?
I think i agree with your choice as an individual, but if everyone was smart enough to do their research no one would immunize and there would be an epidemic of all these virtually unheard of diseases. right?

I would feel ok with the normal childhood disease ones like measles mumps rubella chicken pox rotovirus
Diptheria, polio are sorare they are practically non existent in USA
Hep b and tetanus really don't affect babies sothats unlikely until adulthood.
Pertussis I'd feel awful, but since it's only deadly in the first 6 months, most babies whodie from it were too young to even get the shot so I feel I'd rather just protect her for those 6 months from anyone with a cough. If there was aseperate pertussis shot I might give it to her, but with the dip and Tet in there it's alot of extra risks for complications.

EYES DROPS FOR NEWBORNS? i don't think i would like putting any chemicals in my newborns eyes!
at birth- Hep B
2months- diptheria, tetanus, pertussis, hep B, polio, pneumococcal, rotavirus, HIB.. 2 needles and an oral
i wasnt consulted before she was immunised at birth or 2 months
4 months- exactly the same as 2 months
6 months- the same again
12 months- Measles, mumps, rubella, HIB, meningococcal.. 3 needles, 1 in each arm and 1 in the leg :'( awful experience!
18 months- chicken pox
4 years- measles, mumps, rubella, ditheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio
Then i think there are boosters and gardisil throughout highschool years but i'm not sure when exactly.

What IF your child did happen to get one of the listed diseases? would you feel guilty or would you feel like you did the best you could with the information you had? :)
When i was talking to a friend about possibly skipping the chicken pox vaccine she told me that she knew a 2 year old who died from chicken pox :( i didnt even know that was possible!

Sorry I know just about... nothing about Australia. The overload of keeping up with Americas BS is drowning me alone :) which is why my big long rant is so varied and odd... there's just SO much to follow. Our crappy laws, the loopholes in the laws, vaccines, politics, the new medicare system going into affect, yada yada it just never seems to end.

The other day I went to the doctors with tonsilitis and the doctor (because I'm pregnant) wanted to give me safe drugs. He prescribed me an antibiotic that I've never taken. During my last pregnancy I took Azythromyacin and was FINE. I usually take this and it's usually the only one that works for me. It's rated class B for pregnancy. I argued with him and told him I wanted the Azythro and he said the one he was giving me is class C, safer than Asythro but later on I went home reserached and found out they are the same class. And the drug he prescribed me costs 90 DOLLARS, whereas the Azythro is 20! I mean come on, it's that bad that I have to fight during a routine check up, in a standard doctors office, over simple medications because he's too big of an idiot and a jerk to give me what I know works for my body, that is safe while pregnant (also, the one he was trying to give me has NEVER been tested on pregnant women where as the Z pack has some case studies at least)....... it just really pisses you off on a day to day basis.

I don't know about the pesticides, you'd have to 1. not eat our produce LOL :) and find out where your produce is coming from and research it online. The internet has lots of info everywhere. Can find just about anything.

Human DNA they think might be the biggest breakthrough in why vaccines cause Autism. Still in the works though, so if you want to you can follow this issue with the link I provided and the doctors name and her work.

I religiously would never get a Flu shot, they are riddiculous, do not protect against every strain of flu anyway and have very harmful things in it. As for other vaccinations, I just do not trust how many different, odd ingredients are in them. Anything from the human DNA, MSG, to also Mercury in the flu shots that they are pushing everyone here to get yearly. It's a joke. It's overkill. Now they are trying to push Gardisil on young women - it's aweful. When is it going to end? I feel as if we are bombarded by shots we need in order to be 'safe and healthy' but I think it's overkill.

Are all vaccines risky? Your injecting something you admitted you know absolutely nothing about into your childs body. I don't know about you, but I chose to research a little more and what I found was horrifying and of course it's risky...... even if it's a 1 in a million or 1 in every 10 it's a drug and has a risk.

To your question about whether someone is more likely to have a serious problem from a vaccine than the illness they are preventing? My heart thinks of all the children's parents who are still living with the suffering of their children being dead from brain swelling from a vaccine that is commonly thought of as 'safe'. I would say that there's not evidence more against than for vaccines at this moment as people are still vaccinating like crazy in America. However, there is a huge movement towards not vaccinating and after reading these parents stories about how 24 hours after vaccinating their kids, their babies brains swelled and they DIED, I could not live with trying vaccines on mine.

To me, Polio here is pretty much gone. Hepatitis, is it REALLY that common to vaccine against? Come on. Meningococcal? Only in areas where they are huge amounts of latinos does there seem to be this. So usually it only breaks out in inner cities for whatever reason. No joke, during the last scare they said it hits Latino families a lot harder than any other. Don't know why. I mean the whole time I was growing up I never came in contact with any of this. You don't go talking to Bums, wash your hands..... common sense, and we're ok.

I'm vaccinated as far as..... what my mom vaccinated me for when I was really young. But I was I think 10 when I had my last vaccine? And even back then, she didn't give me everything. She didn't do new vaccines, or controversal ones. Like now a days, the Gardasil I would never give to my daughter if I had one. Didn't get any shots before or after pregnancy. Due with second boy soon :)

What procedure do you guys put your babies through when they are born in Australia? Over here, they give them a shot right away and eyedrops...... drugs drugs drugs right when they are born. Research that too for a shock

You know, there's nothing that any of us can tell you that the internet doesn't have LOADS of great information about. If you go to the catholic website, they list the vaccines and ingredients in them they disagree with due to their religious beliefs. But you can find out what is in any vaccine, and research it. It just comes down to what junk they are putting on our medicine and how some of us think it's harmful, unnecessary or overkill. So I would look online if you want to know about vaccines. It is a very interesting thing that I'm glad has gone controversal. Afterall, I think our biggest problem over here is that people don't care or think anymore. At all. I wish more people did

i was wondering if you know any statistics? like, how many babies who get chicken pox die and hw many are vaccinated and die from that? Or the stats for any of the other diseases and needles? I can't find stats anywhere, i imagine it would be hard to accurately say how any kids die from the vaccines since the government covers it up, but maybe its in that book of yours? :)

Some say you are more likely to get shingles if you are vaccinated, some say it's more likely if you had the disease. I honestly don't know which side has better facts because both sides seem convinced.
Personally I just place more trust in the natural ways of things then the scientific ways. So I tend to believe natural immunity through the disease is more effective then the artificial immunity through the shot.
But I can't prove it :)

I think it's just over 60 cuz that's who is most at risk for shingles..... Maybe all immunity wears off after a while, idk.

I thought the vaccine was to protect against shingles too! And why only over 60?

Sarah,
Don't have time to write a lot at the moment just wanted
to let you know that they only way you are able to come down with shingles is 1. You have had the disease or 2. You have recieved the vaccination...it is a live virus vaccine and whether or not you acquired it naturally or through the vaccine the virus lies dormant in your nerve cells.

There is now a shingles vaccine for adults over 60 that is basically identical to the chickenpox vaccine.

@Laura, can you get shingles if you never caught the disease and had all the shots? I've never had chicken pox, i was immunised when i was about 10.

@ Ally, that is all interesting and scary at the same time! So, i knew about the human DNA, some vaccines originated from a stem cell string from an aborted fetus in the 60s. The monkey kidney is because some were vaccines were cured in a monkey kidney decades ago, the amount of formaldahyde is less than we get from breathing the air apparently. I still think thats pretty gross but i dont think its that bad coz its such a small amount. But whys all the other cow chicken and human bits in them?
Thats awful that that happened to so many people :( Have you heard of any serious reactions to the current vaccines?

Thanks, yeah i know there are coz i'm on the other side of the argument, i think immunizations are great lol i'm just interested in finding out why they're not as great as i think :)
Do you have any information that contradicts the other ladies?

I just want you to remember that there are always two sides to the story, that's all! I could argue a lot of what they're telling you, but I suppose that's for another day and time?!

Just because they say they're negatives, doesn't mean they necessarily are. It's just someone's opinion.

Ok, I'm done now....sorry!

@Dana, i do know the pros of the argument which is why i haven't asked. When i say i do it because everyone does, i mean i never considered not immunizing as an option because the whole world does it, i never thought it was controversial. When i say i am ignorant, i never looked into what was in the vaccinations because i knew i'd hate it and i do lol. Now that all the baby needles are done and i've found out there is another side to the argument i've decided to learn about the negatives. Thank you though :)

Yes chicken pox can be dangerous for pregnant women...that is one of the main reasons i wanted my daughter to acquire it natuarally because although you technically can get it again it is highly unlikely esp since every time you come in contact with the virus without even knowing it, that acts like a booster to your immune system.

The chickenpox vaccine itself is only about 70 percent
effective in preventing the disease...not something i wanted to take a chance with...i feel it is very important esp for girls to have that natural immunity bc this shot has been known to fail people over and over. I did not want to create a situation where her shots wear off( and most do and require a booster about every ten years) and she is then in near college age or early twenties living probably with roomate in close quarters with other people her age who probably recieved the vaccine and now it begins to wear off, she is an adult in her childbearing years and MUCH more likely to have complications cuz like i have mentioned young adults (and older adults too) are awful at keeping up with immunization. So i will not be suprised if we see these diseases coming back in waves over the next decade.

As for your grandma and yourself...it is almost a guarantee that she had the pox as a child and therefore not at risk...and since you do check your blood levels you aren't at risk either. Most docs usually forget to mention that the chickenpox vaccine as well as mmr are live viruses and for several days after vaccination your child is capable (although unlikely) to pass that disease onto unvaccinated individuals...same is true for the rotavirus and for several weks it can be passed through the stool at diaper changes.
That is how our doc thinks my daughter got chickenpox from two of her friends we played with whos mom didnt tell me they had their shots that day..even though i didnt care but it is something many parents don't even think about.

Like someone else said you need to make sure anyone around your young infant for the first couple months has hadva pertussis vaccine all the aunts uncles grandparents and cousins who wanted to visit her in those early weeks had to have that shot..not something i was negotiating on.

As for the aluminum containing vaccines i belive they are the HIB, Pc,DTaP and in the older child and adult DT and
dT there is mercury, hep b, hep a , HPV vaccine for olde girls. Some other ingredients in vaccines you might not know about include fomaldahyde, MSG, antibiotics, residual human DNA, cow blood proteins and cow fetal serum, chicken embryo proteins, human albumin, monkey kidney cells...and the list goes on so any parent out there not getting this info from your doctor they are not doing their job of giving you all the info so you can make an informed choice for your child.

The healthcare system and government esp has an adgenda and it is to keep as many people vaccinated as possible, so many vaccines have been taken off the market and replaced after they were fohnd to be causing serious problems in children ( my little sister wasnin a coma for days after reciving her DTP shot in the 80's and doctors assured parents it was safe) as they did with the oral polio virus until it was found to be causing several cases of "vaccine related polio" every year...the same for the old rotabirus vaccine. Bottom line is more testing needs to be done and you cannot group all children into the same risk factor categories like the government wants to...but since they can't determine who will be a vigilant parent and a responsible one if their child does get ill they make their "reccomendations" and expect everyone to step in line roll up their sleeves and get injected with God knows what...that along with their claims that vaccines are sooo safe and are virtually risk free along with the fact that I have known 2 families personally whos children clearly had vaccine reactions ( one before they even left the doctors offic) and the docs and even the reporting agency (set up by the govt) tried to downplay everything and offered several reasons why it was something other than the vaccines...they are not honest in their tracking of potential problems and minimize risks to unsuspecting parents for the greater good...but i can assure you that when your child is that one statistic the fact that maybe you might have protected other people you dont even know, in the process you harmed or damaged your own child because of a choice you made....it isn't very comforting.

The chicken pox shot is not foolproof, you need boosters to keep immunity, so I'd rather them get the disease and be likely immune for life, then to need boosters all through life. But yeah I've considered if I'd give the pox shot if a kid gets to puberty without catching the disease.

As for living with your grandma, I'd probably ask her to get her immunity checked and see if she is at risk for any of these diseases and from those results decide if she needs specific protection.

But chicken pox is dangerous to pregnant women too. It can cause baby to go blind, deaf, and if in the first trimester it can damage their organs too. Would you get that done at any point to avoid infecting a pregnant woman?
Also i live with my 90 year old grandmother so she would be vulnerable too. I think it would be a bad idea to risk my daughter catching something like whooping cough and passing it on to my grandma. What do you think? :)

Sarah, perhaps you also need to ask the pro-vaxxers why they DO vax so you can have the whole picture and both arguments. Believe it or not, not all pro-vaxxers vaccinate just "because everyone does it".......there are a lot of educated people who have researched vaccines and have CHOSEN to vaccinate for very specific, valid, educated reasons.

Just sayin'.......you can't get the full picture in a one sided convo.

The ones I'm considering for later are the dtap, and the separate Rubella shot. Pertussis is very serious if a young baby gets it, deadly only in the first 6 months so even if you choose to vax your baby for dtap, they are still vulnerable for at least the first two months before they get the shot. So my idea is that the ones needing to get the dtap is everyone around babies. So I'll likely get it for my toddler before I have a baby after them. My hubby is getting his booster now :)
And as for rubella, it is a no big deal disease for most people, but if apregnant woman gets it in her first two trimesters her baby can have permanent damage or die.
So again, I don't think tis important for kids to not get rubella, but to pregnant women it's dangerous so it's good to keep the disease down.

Thanks guys!
Yeah i am breastfeeding, 13 months so far and letting her self wean which i am guessing won't happen for at least 6 months. Hopefully longer! She's not in day care, never has been, never will be :) and we don't socialize very often, other than mums group but those kids are in day care and do get sick and get my daughter sick.
I still don't know what to do lol!
I guess she is considered low risk. I am up to date with all of my shots and breastfeeding her.
Laura, which vaccines did you decide were safe and important?
Ally, which ones has aluminium in them wtf!
I think the chicken pox and probably rotavirus injectionns are unnecessary, the only reason i get them done is because they are dangerous to some people. With chicken pox, im not afraid of her getting it i am afraid of her infecting people. My baby cousin got chicken pox at 6 months and it was just awful what she went through. She got it really badly. It made mes so angry that who ever infected her wasn't vaccinated. I am beginning to understand why they werent though..
I believe the human DNA thing is from aborted fetuses from the 60s. That would be the one thing i know about vaccines lol! The chicken pox vaccine is still quite new and contraversial, but then i had it and i've never had chicken pox! i'm fine :)
32 freaking shots in 6 years sounds insane!!!! i cant remember how many my daughter has had! She was a bloody pin cushion in hospital because the dumbass nurses kept doing pointless blood tests over and over. I didn't feel like i could say no :( I think she had 2 shots in hospital, 2 and 2 months, 2 and 4, 2 at 6 and 3 at 12, plus the orals. im still debating whether to go back for the chicken pox needle at 18 months :(
I'm usually so set in my ways, but this, i think i might be wrong about!
It's not easy to say no here, my daughter wasnt registered with medicare so they thought i hadnt been immunizing her and i got something like 5 or 6 phone calls asking why not! We even get paid to immunize! How can the entire government and health care system get this wrong? :(
