Any grandmothers out there?

Cindy,
Yes, I'm a grandmother known to my 11 year old grandson as Nana. I love being a grandmother.
It is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. My grandson was 3 years old, when we lost his Dad in a fatal auto accident.
We have grandparents visitations rights and I'm so thankful that we pursued the matter. My son was not married to my grandson's mother and we would have never been allowed to take part in my grandson's life if we had not done this.
My son loved his little boy very much, and provided for him support and medical insurance, but he would never force the issue on legal visitation rights. After his death, we were not given a choice in the matter if we wanted to be part of his life. Now, we have regular visitation, and have been very fortunate to be a part of his life and also, we have been able to keep my son's memory alive, by telling my grandson about his Dad.
There is a different love you have for your grandchildren. This is the only grandchild we will ever have, because my son was an only child. I thank God everyday for the blessing he bestowed upon my husband and I. We have a part of our son in our lives. God Bless the Children!!!

Hello,

My name is Wendy and my husband Jim and I went from 0-4 grandchildren in 3 years. One came with the Bride and has been adopted by my son, one is 2, one is 6 mos and the other is 4 mos.

I'm keeping the 6 mos old during the day and I thought I would hate it since I had been loving being just my husband and me again, but boy was I wrong. My milk even came in when the two youngest were born. I love being a grandmother too.I've struggled with depression all my life but these kids are the perfect medicine.

Yes my name is Nancy, I'm a first time grandmother of a 19 month old little girl. My daughter and her family lived with us until about a month ago and I am still having a hard time adjusting. I do get my granddaughter for sleep overs but I miss having her here all the time. It's such a big adjustment. I love being a grandmother and waited so long for this.

Hi Nancy! I know exactly what you mean. But it's amazing how fast they grow up when they have a child. Both of my girls are planning on going back to school next year. Now they have someone else to think about. During the whole pregnancies, I couldn't figure out why God needed these babies to be born. I'm still not sure, but the worst part for me was during the pregnancies. Once those babies were born, nothing else seemed to matter.

Hi Cindy, I am the grandmother of 2. My grandaughter that we have helped raise will be 6 soon. She is my sunshine. My grandson is 5 months old and he and his mother just moved back in with us (again) don't know how long it will last this time.There is no greater joy then being a grandmother.

Hi Jeanie, yes they can certainly take advantage of you if you let them. And it's hard to say no for sure but its sometimes the best thing that we can do for them. I figure I'm providing them with a safe place to live. My only other job is to love those babies. The rest is up to them. They are both really good mothers. But I would certainly take over at anytime if I thought I needed to.

How wonderful to hear all the great things parents and grandparents have to say about their children and grands. I listen to alot of people in my area that don't feel this way and it is very discouraging to hear it.

I'm getting my 2 grandaughters this week end, as I don't get to see them very often. 1 grandaughter I don't get to see, the last time I saw her was in May, and My grandson I see a few times a month. I too love being a grandma! It's the best. we have so much fun and they never want to leave grammy's!! I make sure to give them lots of hugs and kisses, and even though it's tough with the 3 yr. old, I hang in there and have the time of my life teaching her new things. I cherish the memories I make with all of them.

Hi Cindy,

I have two grown children (one boy, 31 and one girl, 28). They each have two girls and a boy. So I have 6 granchildren, 3 girls and 3 boys--ages 16, 11, 8, 7, 7, and 9 months. My daughter had my first grandchild when I was almost 36. And my daughter-in-law already had a child when she married my son so I claim her as mine too. But she just had my last grandchild in November 2008, when I was 46. So no more grandchildren for me. But 6 is good. And I never thought I could ever love anyone as much as I loved my own children. But when my first granddaughter, Emily, came along, it felt like she was an angel sent from heaven. Then my second granddaughter, Taylor, came. And I felt the same way. I found out that when they live with you when they're born, and continue living with you for a time thereafter, you really get attached to them to the point that they almost feel like your own. Those two still hold a special place in my husband's and my heart, even though we dearly love all of our grandchildren. So I must caution you, along with the love, there can come some pain. If there ever arises a time when you cannot see them for some reason, or there is a situation that you can't really control, and you know that it's not good for the kids, it can devastate you. So prepare yourself for some of the greatest joys of your life, but maybe some of the greatest heartaches.

I will be for the first time on January 18th. Was a little taken back at first because my son, who will be daddy, hasn't been the most responsible person in the last couple of years. He will be 21 though & so will the mom. Looking forward to loving & spoiling the baby - but they aren't gonna live here. Sorry still have a 16 year old at home and am really looking forward to the break.

I know there will be more to come, My daughter can have no more, my youngest son & are just beginning and my oldest son & his wife are in the trying stages.. Yep I'm a nana for 6 yrs.

I have 2 grandsonsBlake age 6 almost 7 and Devin age 1yr & 5 months, Then i have a grand daughter Kaylynn age 2yrs& 4 mos.

The boys love to come to Nana house, but Kaylynnn, she's a momma girl all the way.

But I love to death & would'nt trade them for nothing in the would !!!

we have helped our only daugther raise her 3 boys since day 1. i really dont know if she appericates it yet though. shes an ok mom. i mean shes here for the boys, but not really. my mom is in the same boat, shes raised my neice since she was a week old. my sister just left her w/ my mom and went home. my mom now has residental and safety custody of her. if it wasnt for my mom, my neice would be somewhere else. i dont know what these girls are thinking nowdays. sorry just a little pent-up frustation there. feel alittle better. just feels good to get things off ure chest once in awhile.

I have one granddaughter who is 10 going on 16. They try to grow up too fast. I also have 20 some step grandkids. But they are all pretty well grown and having their own kids. My husband and I have pretty much raised my granddaughter as her mother doesn't yet know, at 29, how to be a mother.

I have three of the most beautiful, adorable, incredible grandchildren you can imagine - 2 girls and a boy. It was worth all the headaches of the teenage years (I think) to have these lovely children who think their grandfather and I walk on water. The kids had to move in with us for a couple of months after the middle one was born, and I surely imprinted myself on her! She just turned 5 and I'm her favorite person in the world. There's nothing in the world like being a grandparent!!

I am a grandmother (Nana) to two of the most beautiful children. My granddaughter is 5 yrs. old and just started Kindergarten. My grandson just turned 1 yr. old. I am so blessed that they only live 10 minutes away so I can see them a lot, although it never seems enough! They are just the joys of my life.

I am a young grandmother and my oldest daughter is 25, she has a six year old and a one year old that recently are staying with us while her husband is in Afghanistan and I love having them. My middle daughter of 24 has a 4 yr old and my son has a 3 yr. old and a one yr old. All boys except my one yr old grand daughter who is my little princess. I love them all and enjoy spoiling them so much.

I have one son who is 39. He and his family live in Las Cruces, NM. My grandchildern are 7 (girl) and 11 (boy). I live twelve hours away. But the girl diva just spent 10 days with Nana and today I am recovering. My g.babies and I were close when they were young, nothing like rocking babies!
