When I was a child I also bit my nails from nervousness. I was picked on in school, at home our finances were pretty bad, and my mom was a single mom who worked. I think that it's caused from some nervousness somewhere, even if it isn't coming from home. Ask her if anything is on her mind.

I must admit Im 24 and still bite my nails. I get the professional ones put on so I dont do it as often but I must admit that Ive been known to chew them off as well. I went to the doctor and they said a lot of it has to do with when I become stressed out or nervous. When I was younger my family would give me lolli pops or something along those lines to take my mind off chewing my nails. I would try something along those lines as well if its possible. They also have nasty tasting nail polish that I've tried but since I'm old enough now I just take it off LOL I hope it helps a little bit but unfort nail biting is a hard habit to kick.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I really appreciate it. She and I had a little talk about why I think she shouldn't and promised her every "mommy day" to have a little spa day, and it seems to be working some

I was 34 before I quit biting my nails. My mom tried everything, and so had I. they say it is a nervous habit brought on by stress. I would try not bothering your daughter too much about the nails (it always made me feel worse whenever my mom brought it up) but concentrate on what may be triggering it and deal with that.

I might just open a HUGE can of worms here but my mother put my fingers in chilly and I did the same thing to my daughter. I also went out and bought manicure stuff and she got to pick out her favorite colors and even nails stickers, and we would have a mommy and daughter manicure day (we would even invite other moms with children her age and did a little party) as long as she didn't bit them. she's 12 now and we still have out manicure time together.. does this help?

Hello Debbie,

This is a though one! Have you tried to put something on her fingernails that taste awefull, maybe you can ask at your drugstore if they have something like that.

I know here in Belgium they have, I never had to use it.

I wish i could help but my sisterinlaw is 33 and she still bites her nails.
