I totally get what you are saying Sherri. In fact I have read enough of these stories that I am overly concerned about this and check on my kids through out my car ride and check on them frequently, via phone calls, if they are not with me.

Well I can.....especially if it is a parent that doesn't normally have the child. They go about there normal routine out of habit, not even consciously realizing it.

One day I thought my husband had taken my sleeping son out of the car and he thought I had. I didn't look for him because I assumed my husband had laid him in his bed. We left him in the hot car for 15mins before we both realized our mistake. Trust me it happens.

Sleep deprived or not, sorry, but I don't know how people could just forget the baby in the car for hours on end. Maybe for a few minutes, maybe for the ride to work, but to go in to work and then come back out and then go home and sit there until the spouse calls and reminds you? No, that's...that's just something else.

Well honestly I have done it!! It was when my oldest was newborn I was sleep deprived and drove all the way to work forgetting completely he was in the car and forgetting to drop him off at daycare. Luckily as I was pulling into work he made a noise and I realized he was in the back seat. I quickly turned around and got him to daycare and me back to work, however, I have no idea what would have happened if he hadn't made a noise at that moment.

It was certainly a day I will never forget and that was 15yrs ago. It happens and just because it hasn't happened to you, don't be so quick to judge. I can completely understand how accidents such as these occur. My heart breaks for this family.

this sort of thing scares me the way my husband and i are so scatterbrained. i know with Julie, when she was still just a newborn we were all three in walmart and hubby had the cart with her and I had gone down an aisle, not thinking he'd follow me, and i turned around to come back and he was right beside me, no baby!! i freaked, "where's the baby????" and he ran back to her, he had left the cart in the middle of the big aisle, with her just snoozing away. thankfully he's never done anything like that since, but the mere thought of him leaving our baby girl in a hot car all day is worth a few shudders. see, i have nightmares about this...

i personally think that it's total BS that parents would rather make it to a meeting on time than remember their children. i don't know how anyone could do that. my ass will be late as fuck and fired, i would never forget my child in the car. this really makes me want to cry, just imagining how the mother must feel, having called her husband to check on the babies and then how he must feel, God it's hard not to bawl right now...

Ugh! My heart hurts reading this. Horrendously sad! It is not just one or the other. The parents are to blame because they made the mistake but how awful that our society has trained us to be more conscious of the clock and our jobs than our families.

Parents. Getting caught up in something and forgetting for a couple of minutes I might be able to understand, but ALL day?! And he didn't even remember about his baby on his way home. Totally forgot about the baby entirely until mom called to check on them. I don't get that. I've heard that situations like this happen when something is out of routine (like maybe mom normally has the kid, but dad had him/her for some reason that day), but still. This is your BABY we are talking about.

In addition, we are the ones that decide how busy we get. So, if you can't handle it, then slow the fuck down and take care of your kids!

It is so sad. It makes me angry. This poor baby suffered! I couldn't imagine, it gives me shivers and a very heavy heart. I just don't understand and never ever will.

Parents.

I don't care how busy you are. You don't forget your children in the car. That to me is just insane. I would and could not forget my son in the car. I KNOW when I had to lift him and put him in his car seat. I find it very difficult to imagine how anyone can be that dense and forgetful. Seriously. If you are that busy, you should not be taking your kids around with you.
