Straying off of the 'naming your baby' thread,
What names do you absolutely love but your man vetoed?
Or names he just loved but you said hell no!

Hubby wanted to name our son Drake, i was quick to say no!!
yes its a pretty name, but it was the reason behind the name.....its a male duck and he wanted people to know his daddy was a hunter! Um, if they know you, they know you're a hunter! LOL
(BTW....we're not redneck at all, despite that explanation being nothing but redneckish!! LOL)

Ok funny story first.
My mom wanted to name me Cassandra. My dad said they could call me Sandra (ex-GF name, bad move Dad). Mom said no call her Cassie. An argument ensued and I would up being named Nikki after the Prince song "Darling Nikki" (dirty dirty song BTW) because it was on the radio at the time.
WE had liked Persephone but my MIL couldn't remember how to spell it. WE liked Peyton but lived so close to University of Tennesse that everyone kept asking if it was for Peyton Manning. So we decided on Pyper Jewel. And our son is Wyatt Briscoe (yes after Wyatt Earp) my hubby suggested Bruce Wayne and I was ok with it but we are trying to stick with Ys in the first name.
So we'll see.

Krista, I will say that if you name your son James you will have to insist that those at school and EVERYONE else call him JAMES. IF the parents inform them, they will not shorten it. Our school enrollment forms have a space for "Perferred Name" next to the "Legal Name" space.
We named our son Timothy and then let him decide. For several years in school he was Timmy, then he wanted Timothy, now it's Tim. I still call him Timothy but he allows all to call him Tim (he is 16) if they want.

My husband and I had a hard time agreeing on names. In fact, neither one of us came up with the name for our son. My mother-in-law chose his name and fortunately we both liked it. His name is Zachary.
For our next child, if we have a girl, I like Anna, but my husband hates it. He said it sounds like an old lady's name. I don't care. I am still naming her Anna Kate unless we have another boy. Both of us are having a terrible time coming up with boys names, we hate them all again. The only name we both sort of like is Ryan but we only sort of like it because it is so common and kind of boring. I guess you could say we are vetoing all the names together.
*Husband likes Ashley instead of Anna, which I like, but Anna has such personal meaning to me that I just cannot part with it. I think eventually he will agree to to it just because it means so much to me.

we were betting what it would be (even though i didn't care). we decided if he was right of it being a boy he got to name him and if i was right of it being a girl i got to pick the name. He didn't veto the name i chose which was "Josephine Olivia" aka "Joe" but I did veto his want to name our son after him or his father. I also vetoed the middle name he chose but did choose to go with the 1st name. Wouldn't have mattered in the end anyway because he has been AWOL from day 1. But now I have an amazing little monster named "Trevor James" with my last name of course!

Lilah is what my brother-in-law and his gf named one of their twins. I like it spelt Lilah as well, Lyla just doesn't seem right to me.
I did have Lola picked out for a future girl, but when the twins came along, I vetoed it myself, because it would be confusing.

Oh and we were thinking to name our first daughter Sara Joan. Sounds pretty plain boring and or unsymbo,ic right!
Well my moms name was Sara Joan, she got cancer when I was 13 and died when I was 15. We wanted to remember her through our daughters name and honor her place as grandma.
Well we decided not to just because how many Sara(h) s we know. And we really wanted a unique name, but still if we had used Sara it would have been full of meaning to us.

But I'm a big fan of names having symbolic meaning, so when all these names are just..... names.... it's boring.
Not necessarily. YOU might not know the meaning behind them, but perhaps for those parents, that name IS very meaningful.
I'll use Jason as an example. The parents may have met in university and fallen in love during a study group when they were reading "Argonautica", and Jason might have also been the middle name of the mother's beloved deceased uncle.
In that case, the name of Jason WOULD hold a lot of meaning...just not to you.

Oliva sound sooooooo old, I know a 80 year old woman with that name. Stacy used to be a guys name.
I think most names are boring. Jason, Nichole, Ethan, Ian, Lindsey...... what exactly is being said by these? Not much. A million other people have these. But I'm a big fan of names having symbolic meaning, so when all these names are just..... names.... it's boring.

I liked the names Alivia, Ziva, Marisol, something a little different but he never liked a single one of them. They would either, as he would say, stick in his mouth or just didn't sound right to him... He wanted names like Shelby (I pictured a turtle), Margaret so he could call her Maggie (a little too old sounding, like Esther) and Dakota (my friend has a dog named dakota so couldn't associate the name to a baby). It is amazing we were ever able to find two names that we agreed on for our children... lord help us if we have a third!!

My hubby refused any boy names except for his own name or one I didn't like for a first name. He said all other boy names are "wimpy" and he didn't want our potential son to be bullied because of his "wimpy name." Ugh. Fortunately, we had all girls and didn't have to have that argument more than once :)
We agreed on all our daughter's names, but there were a few that we had to veto.
His top pick that I vetoed:
Valentina
My top picks that he vetoed:
Emeli (pronounced like Emily)
Quinn
His pick was his grandmother's name (his very mean and crazy grandmother). I just can't stand the name. My pick was my mentor's name (she passed away Dec, 2003) but it didn't go with our other daughters' names (and since we went with the Russian names with the first 2 I didn't want our 3rd to stand out and have a really different name). Quinn is a name that can be for either gender, but I like it for a girl best. I got it from a Nora Roberts book and I've loved it since, but hubby's not a fan at all :(
If we ever do have another baby (not likely) and it ends up being a girl then I'm going to insist that Emeli be the middle name though...

My son is called Sean. When I was pregnant with him we knew it would be sean for a boy but we could not agree on girls names. He vetoed Ella, Chloe, Ellie, Maisie...the list goes on and on. Luckily we did not need to decide on girls names because we had a boy!
Second time around I had a girl and funnily enough we could not agree on boys names but we easily reached a decision on a girls name. He vetoed Sam for a boy and that was the only name I really liked. For a girl he loved Lily and as it was my nan's name we went with that. I vetoed a few names but he chose all asian names nd I really didn't want either of them to have an asian first name. They both have an asian second name. Sean has Rayhaan for his middle name and Lily has Suhana for her middle name.
