Be honest...is all this controversy because he is black?

I know this is a touchy subject so please forgive me if I have offended anyone. I just honestly want to know what you ladies think. I have friends of all nationalities that both agree and disagree with me. No, I'm not playing the "race card" lol because like our President, I too am multi-racial. So I see things from almost every angle of the spectrum...but seriously...is a lot of this anti'Obama propaganda ultimately fueled by racism? Because there are so soooooo many IRRATIONAL arguments against pretty much ANYTHING he says or does or proposes that it is ridiculous. I am left scratching my head in confusion by the absurdity of some of these rants. I mean come ON....look at the president we just got rid of. Look at the horrific mess he made of this country! Yeah we complained and talked about him and what not but we didn't have thousands of town halls and "tea parties" and protests...etc..etc.... I truly believe that not all,of course, but a lot of this dislike and hate for our president IS racism. I know there are plenty of people who genuinely do not agree with his methods/policies,...etc, but don't you have to be informed to be able to come to that decision? There are so many people out there who hate him just for the sake of hating him...but my question is...for what reason? Also, has the election of a biracial president helped or hurt race relations in the country?

If anyone is a racist, you could argue that he is. He has repeatedly distanced himself from the white Grandparents who raised him, calling his own Grandma a "typical white woman".
-Seriously...I don't even know what to say to this nonsense!

We are bleeding money that our grandchildren will never be able to repay, borrowing from China, etc. to fund more social programs designed to make the population more dependant on the Govt. These would just be some examples of why Conservatives don't like Obama.

-Bush was borrowing truckloads of money from china to fund his war to get the guy who "tried to kill his daddy"...and cutting the taxes of his wealthy buddies while borrowing it from your grandchildren...not to fund social programs that would benefit them some day, but to keep an unjust war going that they may have to fight and die in...

I was not a huge fan of everything that Bush did while in office, but I don't think he was a horrible president. It could be argued that he inherited a mess from "can't keep it in my pants" Clinton. His biggest fault was his liberal spending.

-Clinton left office with the first SURPLUS in decades...what financial mess did GW inherit from Clinton, exactly?

Bottom line, there are racists on both sides of the fence. There always will be. But I honestly think that using racism as an out for why people dislike Obama is a weak defense.

-It may sound like a weak defense to someone who has never had their life threatened for being born African...which of course, the president has had happen to him several times since beginning his run for office. People don't like BO because he's black. It may not be the ONLY reason, but it is a reason. Pretend it's not if you want, but you are wrong.

Of course SOME people are going to hate Obama for his color. Just as some people hated Bush for his. It is stupid to think otherwise. As much as we all wish that everyone was color-blind, its just not going to happen. As far as the majority of the GOP feeling Obama is bad news based on his color, that is total crap. If anyone is a racist, you could argue that he is. He has repeatedly distanced himself from the white Grandparents who raised him, calling his own Grandma a "typical white woman".

The man has only proved his radical left wing agenda since taking office. He has shown his inexperience in the people he has chosen to appoint in his cabinet, and why the hell do we need all these Czars? What is next, a "toilet paper usage Czar?" When is the madness going to stop? We are bleeding money that our grandchildren will never be able to repay, borrowing from China, etc. to fund more social programs designed to make the population more dependant on the Govt. These would just be some examples of why Conservatives don't like Obama.

OK I'm sorry but this is just so ridiculous I couldn't just let it go.

The first paragraph about him being a racist and distancing himself from his white grandparents .... I don't often use the "f" word and I'll try not to here either, but are you donkey kidding me??? That has got to be one of the craziest statements I have ever heard.

Second paragraph about him being a left wing radical - the man doesn't have a radical bone in his body! He's as moderate as they come. I WISH he WAS a bit more radical. The man is bending over backwards to try to please both sides of the aisle. The problem is that there is no way to please the utterly irrational right these days so I say he should stop even trying. But he won't.. Here's what David Brooks, conservative columnist, had to say in a recent New Republic article:
"These days, the center-right Brooks frequently seems more sympathetic toward Obama than the liberal Paul Krugman. He has written columns praising Obama’s Afghanistan policy, education proposals, and economic team. Even on broad areas of disagreement--deficit spending, the sprawling stimulus bill, health care reform--Brooks tends to treat Obama and his administration with respect. “My overall view,” Brooks told me, “is ninety-five percent of the decisions they make are good and intelligent. Whether I agree with them specifically, I think they’re very serious and very good at what they do.”

Then about the czar issue. First of all - someone is considered a "czar" if the MEDIA labels him as such. Not the president. So if Fox for example starts calling every Obama appointee a czar (it only takes one mention) then he will be up to 6 million czars by the end of the year no matter what he does. Aside from that little tid-bit, I did some research on what czars exactly were appointed under this administration and the previous one. There are quite a few that Bush appointed and Obama just replaced (AIDS czar, drug czar, cyber security czar, faith based czar, intelligence czar - which btw is the Director of National Intelligence but sometimes labeled by ... you guessed it ... the media as a czar, etc.). Then there are those czars that Bush appointed that Obama did not (for example, abstinence czar, birth control czar, bird flu czar, hurricane Katrina recovery czar, homeland security czar, public diplomacy czar - talk about asleep at the switch!, reading czar), and there are those that Obama appointed that Bush didn't have (climate czar, domestic violence, czar, Chairman Economic Recovery Advisory Board labeled by the media as the economics czar, Guantanamo Bay Closure czar, Iran Czar, Middle East czar, etc.). Basically they have the same number of czars (Bush is still ahead but Obama has time to catch up and with Fox's help I'm sure he will) but as you can see the main differences are where their focus is. Bush was focused on abstinence & Obama is focused on Iran. OK cheap shot. But still, it shows their difference in focus and it shows the different challenges they faced in office. Obama wasn't faced with Katrina, Bush left the economic mess behind for Obama.

Now for the borrowing thing - Bush threw money out the door like there was no tomorrow and shoved it mostly at unworthy causes (a war we didn't need) or people who didn't need it. To then say that was a "liberal" thing to do is pathetic. It's walking away from any ownership. And BTW - you should look up some economic statistics. Liberals tend to be more fiscally conservative than fiscal conservatives and they almost always leave the economy in better shape when they leave office than the republicans do. But please, by all means perpetuate the myth that republicans are the fiscally conservative party. What a joke. If I had a choice between burning money on an unnecessary war or throwing money at health care for all - it would be the easiest choice in the world. If Bush had left Clinton's surplus intact for Obama he could have done all this without having to borrow a cent.

I agree that Bush was not a horrible president. Horrible does not begin to describe him. I'd start with disastrous, but even that only scrapes the surface.

Now as for racists on both sides of the fence, I don't think all republicans are racists, but I am absolutely convinced that if you ARE a racist, the odds are very strong that you'll be voting republican.

Quoting Shannon Cassidy-:

It must be where you live  then , where I live we are amongst every known  Nationality around Blacks, Muslem, Russians, Jews, Chinese, Indian. ,  Arab. and Spanish --  I live in a very Diverse State

I live in a very large Complex . I keep to myself but I have two friends who are Turkish and Black and I also have three Molado Nephews so the Bubble I live in must be pretty huge!!!

Any ways I wrote MOST PEOPLE DON'T THINK ABOUT RACE ANYMORE, . I just don't like him because he is a Communist .

Ok so now Obama's a communist? Do you even KNOW what that means? Are you 100% sure you know? Just in case, because I have my doubts, here are some definitions for you:

communist:
–noun
1.     (initial capital letter) a member of the Communist party or movement.
2.     an advocate of communism.
3.     a person who is regarded as supporting politically leftist or subversive causes.
4.     (usually initial capital letter) a Communard.

And because I don't think that states it clearly enough here is what communism is:

communism:
-noun
1.     a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
2.     (often initial capital letter) a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.
3.     (initial capital letter) the principles and practices of the Communist party.

So after reading all of that I'm not quite sure WHERE you get your ideas that Obama is a communist. He hardly has total control of the country. If he does well then every president before him was also a communist. Oh wait forgot about that pesky part where it says ONE POLITICAL PARTY. Shoot... that debunks it too. I bet it must just suck paying him rent too right? After all, he's a communist, his political party owns everything. I bet the Democrats are just having a ball.

Ok I'm done with the sarcasm... could it be you meant he is a SOCIALIST?

Here's some more handy definitions:

socialist:
–noun
1.     an advocate or supporter of socialism.
2.     (initial capital letter) a member of the U.S. Socialist party.

socialism:
–noun
1.     a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
2.     procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
3.     (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

That sounds about right. Nothing wrong with working for your community, state and country as a whole. I live in Canada, we are partly a socialist country, partly a capitalist country. We've found a good balance (I think) and I'm proud to be Canadian. Always have been. Even with a political party in power that I do not agree with I don't dissolve and start slinging mud, acting like a raving lunatic, perpetuating rumors or spout off at the mouth before I research and find out FOR SURE on a topic. I use the wisdom our education system gave me, my life experiences, my morals and integrity and make a decision from all of that. After all, just because I didn't vote for them they might still do some good for our country. If I think they won't then I do speak up and talk to my representatives. I really wish people in the states, like you, would start using their heads more and stop using their hearts so much. It's POLITICS you HAVE to wade through the bullshit and find the truth. You just can not go off of loud mouths opinions.

I have to say, I am in complete shock......... I am still trying to comprehend........ I am not one (as you can see from my earlier posts) that believes racism is dead by any means, but this is disgusting. Corrine, your type are what give Conservatives such a bad face. While I don't agree with what Obama stands for, and I don't think he is qualified to be Commander in Chief, it is certainly NOT because of his color or race. What a simpleton way of looking at things. APE? REALLY? Maybe you need to visit a zoo and refresh your memory on the difference between an ape and a HUMAN BEING. If you are going to attack someone, base it on actual fact not on bigotry. I am proud to be an American, but you do our country a dis-service.

2) ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! YOU RACIST BIGOT!!!!

3) Holy crap... YOU need to check your facts before you start spewing more crap all over yourself. I'd suggest using REAL news sources and not some bible thumping website.

This is why I like reading your posts Jeanette - you present yourself in such a way that makes me want to read what you say. You have a back bone! You have conviction and you have the intelligence behind your convictions. There are too many people who don't even bother with an intelligent, respectful reply to anything - the simplest of questions they don't have a straight forward, real, answer that has any support (fact) beyond their own 'opinion'.

For the most part - I have no reply to your, or anyone's, questions - because I don't follow the political scene enough to voice anything other than my own general opinion on the WHOLE situation. I can't speak for anyone else but I can say that there's been just as much BS on either side. And just as the people who don't agree with him question everything the people who agree with him - the people who do agree with him have the right to question everything the people who don't agree with him. (Ok that REALLY doesn't look right but I hope you get what I mean LOL)

And I think it is intelligent to question ANY person who is in a powerful position - but there is a difference between questioning, and outright making shit up, twisting things around and simply hating for the sake of hating because it's not how 'you would do it.'

I think there are a lot of people who 'make up' reasons not to like this guy because they just don't want to have to agree with someone they are taught from birth to dislike. Case in point - racists, the KKK, white supremists - I know a couple people who are white supremists and they DO make shit up, everytime they open their mouths and pawn it off as a reason to dislike Obama. They have no base for their hatred of him except - "he's a n****r."

I don't talk to that pathetic worm since he said that, but no word of a lie - that is his reason for disagreeing with Obama. It's sad and unfortunate because as much as Bush was a weiner and as much as Clinton was a weiner and as much as Obama is a weiner - they were/are all doing what they have to do - be politicians.

I'm goin to bed now lol I'm tired - I think I might stick to the other non-political (hopefully) debates for awhile because all of the political talk is starting to make me wonder if I should start a Countdown to Doomsday ... where there's a spontaneous combustion extraveganza where everyone arguing gets so heated the whole of the earth just blows up LOL

For the record, I think that town hall meetings were a great idea...I've never seen a government be so accountable to their people...if this is Obama's idea, good for him! It's not his fault a few crazy right wing lunatics showed up and made everybody (on the right) look bad.

Since you mentioned town hall meetings

and yes...I'm sure it has something to do with race for a lot of Americans...I also think it has a lot to do with being a democrat...call me crazy :P

Jeanette, I think you might have took Evelyn's question on a personal level in which she didn't intend. No one says it's the ONLY reason - she is asking if it is ONE reason that SOME people do hate him so much.

No one has ever said that you are one of the people who made your choices simply because he is black - in fact you are one of the very few people (and I have said this before) that has a backbone to your opinions - I don't understand why you would want to take something that clearly doesn't apply to you in the way you it seems you have. (I apologize if I have taken more/less/something from your post that I shouldn't have - this is just how I see it.)

People are giving credit to the people who can present themselves in a rational and respectful manner - which you do. And there are people that can. But the crazy people - like Corrine, for example, and a few others around COM who get soooooooo illogical with their 'opinions' that it opens the door to question what they really care about, the fact that he's black or the fact that they disagree with him.

When you turn around and every other "answer" is "cause the bible says so." Or a twist and a turn of what he said instead of taking it for face value - the "hitler" crap and "the one" crap and "the messiah" crap.... it's hard to make sense of it all and unfortunately the people like Corrine who really is crazy, they speak A LOT LOUDER than the rational, intelligent, well read and thoughtful (and strong!) people who actually make sense when they speak.

You and Kelly, for instance - I enjoy reading your posts and your input always teachs me something new. I may not be an American, or follow along with politics that much in general, due to my own personal situation right now - I don't have the patience to zone in on all the information I need in order to have a collectively educated opinion 1 way or another.

But I do read along, standing in the middle, looking 1 way then the other goin "ok that one is nuts, that one makes sense, that one has this good point and that bad point, this one has that bad point but this good point." and I don't really go either way but as long as it's logical and in the overall picture, makes sense, I like to listen in.

Okay Jo, I am rereading the original starter for this conversation by Evelyn.  I don't think she is attacking me.  I have had this question asked in another space and I am thinking, seriously, do you (not Evelyn the other inquirer) really think I just started paying attention?

I respect that President Obama is our president, our leader, even if I didn't vote for him.

I do see where she states that she knows there are people who genuinely disagree...I guess where I got my knee jerk reaction was with the "but don't you have to be informed to be able to come to that decision?"  My response was based on that knee jerk reaction, it probably was overkill, but damn I feel like it is about race even when it isn't!

I feel like President Obama helped race relations.  I did not vote for him, that doesn't mean I cannot see the benefit!  I believe that when a black/asian/latino american parent(s) tells their child "you are going to be our next President" that  the child should KNOW it to be possible.  I support and defend that with every essence of my being.  I happen to be crazy in love with a bi-racial little boy, and sincerely believe my children (at least 2) will marry outside of their race based on their dating habits.  So, I HOPE Obama has helped race relations.

I would like to repoint out though, Obama came up with the town hall meetings idea during his campaign.  He also suggested the use of technology in communicating with the people en mass.  I think he was clever for suggesting these things because it does show he is interested in our input at the very least.

However, he is our President, and like EVERY President before him, he will be questioned, hated, booed, whatever...and it won't be all because he's black.

Done! ;0)

Thanks for the nudge.

Okay, I was going to repost in here because this question came up on another part of fb and I wanted to make my point here as well.

I think that playing the race card shows a level of insecurity and cowardice. I will turn it around for you, so you can plainly see my point:

I think you Evelyn voted for Obama just because he is bi-racial. I don't think you were aware of his platform, nor do I think you listened to any of his speeches or debates. I think because he looks a lot like you, you don't care what he stands for, what his goals for this country are, because now you feel a kinship a connection. The consequences are null and void to you because it is what you FEEL that drives you. I think you completely agree with Obama now for the exact same reasons I just gave for you voting for him.

Now, how does that sound Evelyn? As if maybe you are an idiot who doesn't give a damn about the state of this nation? Yeah, it does.

Now, take everything I said about you, and apply it to everyone who doesn't look like Obama. You think we disagree with him based on his looks? REALLY? It can't possibly because I DID listen to his beginning campaign speeches, the speeches in the midst of his campaign, how they changed all the way up to the end AND I watched the debates between him and McCain. ALL THREE entirely. Maybe I didn't get the FEELING he was up to the task at hand...running this country, dealing with foreign interests, dealing with terrorists, handling illegal immigration, settling the economy....maybe he floundered just a bit too much in my opinion. An opinion I formed LISTENING to him and WATCHING him.

Can you give your fellow Americans some credit? I don't ASSUME you would vote for anyone based on the way they looked...but maybe you would....after all, you did start this conversation.

Thanks Corrine for keeping crazy alive...mental health professionals were worried about keeping their jobs. Please check yourself into the nearest institution.

the service member personally does not pay rent in military housing, but with a husband and wife in the military, not living in military housing (because you know...you DO have a choice!)...you get single + married BAH (depending on what they classify your duty as) which means housing does not take your money...you pay your own rent. so with over $2,000 a month in just bah, then adding in basic pay and bas, for both military members, your looking at well over $7,000 a month. i think i have rent covered and then some. do i live in a shack? sorry to burst your bubble, but i do not. not unless you consider a 3 bedroom, 4 bath, 3,724 square foot, 3 car garage + guest quarters above the garage a shack. as for my son, he has everything he needs and whatever he wants. whoever said i needed to be married to an officer? no, military doesnt "roll in the dough" but if youre financially savvy, its pretty easy to stretch a dollar! as for my college education, straight A student, thank you very much! my high school gpa at graduation, 3.6. *please hold your applause!* and i might as well add, ON TOP of my tuition and books being paid for, i get an EXTRA $4,500 at the end of each semester...so if you want to average that out and add it to my other pay, thats over $8,125 a month...but we wont do that, because it comes in a lump sum. so you....ladies can sit on your COM profile, and talk all the shit you want, just know that it doesnt bother me. i find it quite interesting to come on here every few hours just to see who has said what next! its like a suspensful, exciting, on the edge of your seat, "oh i cant wait to see what happens next" book! and i bet youre all waiting for me to reply, just to talk your shit! and i would apologize for the language that i used earlier, because i know it was uncalled for, but i believe that it wouldnt change a damn thing. as far as obama goes, idc that hes black, i disagree with most of the choices he is making for this country. the one and only topic i agree on, is gay marriage. i never claimed those word to be my own, i just retyped what was sent to me in an email. i said the things i said because i got heated and jumped the gun. so i will apologize if i offended anyone, and i really mean that. i am not racist, actually my best friend for the last 11 years happens to be african american, and she would probably be very upset if she had seen the things i had written/said. so if i could with draw my statements, i would but its too late now. and i know that the next 20 posts are going to be about "Corrine this and Corrine that" and "OMFG, blah blah blah" and "ROFLMFAO" hahaha...its funny, but whatever, so be it. and i hate to leave you all but, i have a life to get back to and a 4.0 gpa to maintain.

I won't comment on the military salary until I look further into that but I'd hazard my guesses your lying. Single & married at the same time? Pretty sure that breaks a few laws. Anyway.....

It's pretty hard to believe a person is not racist if your FIRST instinct when you get heated is to play the race card. Lots of doubts come to mind then.

I find it absolutely hilarious that amidst your "apology" you still manage to be rude and condescending. Great job! Your credibility sucks donkey butt.

you people make me laugh! regardless if its a "religious" site or not, the statements are all the same. im glad that every single one of you are giving me my paycheck. youre paying my rent and utilities, and buying my groceries. i enjoy spending your hard earned money!

Edit: You're in the military? That's scary as fuck. I have many military friends, all of who I am proud of, but none of who are as spiteful and rude as you. You are a shame to our country, and a double shame because you're a member of the military who is supposed to be protecting us-all of us, not just the white people.

Also, you're an imbecile. Seriously. I don't generally outright call people dumbasses on here, because we're all entitled to our own opinions and just because we do not agree doesn't mean we have to be nasty to one another. But people like you make me absolutely fucking sick. You perpetuate hate and spew ignorance with every statement you make. Have you even read the Bible? Jesus said to love your neighbors, to hate the sin and not the sinner, not to do anything that gives even an appearance of evil. Jesus loved and blessed everyone. You don't get to follow some parts of Christianity and not others if you're going to truly consider yourself Christian. You have to be Christlike, which means to love others. And it's clear, from this and your other posts, that you hate rather than love, that you don't work for what you have, and that you are only interested in what someone else can do for you-not how you can be of help and benefit to society.

You are a shining example and a resounding yes to the OP's question-some people hate Obama because of his race. That's disgusting.

Corrine - I called you a plagairist. Perhaps you aren't aware, but that is not an insult, like the one you threw at the rest of us. It means you take someone else's words and pass them off as your own. Just so you know, that's generally considered bad form, and if you actually are in college, I'd suggest not trying it in your classes.

I'm glad you had a good laugh about our posts. I have to say though, that I found yours disturbing, not funny. But I'm still confused about what you were trying to add to the discussion. In your first post, you said "I dislike Obama, but not because he is black." (Well, you didn't really say it, but you said you agree...) Then later you write that, "i think an ape has no right to be in the white house" and " its a WHITE house not a black house." So does that mean you do dislike him because he is black, or not?

You are the epitome of why the world does not like the states. If I could put people like you on an island and blow it up I would.

I have no issue with anyone who can clearly, intelligently and maturely put forth their reasons. You can not.

College educated? Doubtful.

Your house? Bet it's a back woods shack somewhere in your great state of Texas.

Everything else? Probably spend more on yourself than you do your kids. Everyone knows military personel don't get paid the greatest.

My life is hardly sad and pathetic. At least the world already likes me and gives me a chance simply because I'm Canadain. It's a stereotype but one I'm glad to shoulder. The rest of your country and most of your political party you shame with your attitude.

I'm sure even Bush would stand up and punch you in the face for your bigotry. You are a sad excuse for a human being, an american citizen and as a mother.

My first instinct is not to believe that someone could truly have an opinion like that, that maybe she (Corrine) is just spouting crap to get a rise out of us all. I truly don't know how anyone could feel that way in their heart...how could you ever be happy walking around with so much hatred?
