I found this very interesting and quite funny actually.

My first is exactly what they say. He's unbelievably patient for a 2 year old, he is very much a perfectionist and LOVES things to go his way (but thats pretty obvious, I mean he IS 2).

The last born child really hits home. Even though my youngest is only 10 months I can see ALL of these traits in him already. He is very much a risk taker, he gets into more trouble than my 2 year old does, and he loves attention from anyone or anything. He is also extremely sensitive.

As for me, Im the oldest and most of the traits fit. The only thing that doesnt is the greater level of confidence. I personally dont think Im all that confident but some people may tend to disagree. Also, Im definitely not assertive at all. Everything else seems to fit though, especially the "grin and bear it" mentality (lol) and all the weaknesses are spot on!

Lyndsay it does say in the variables link : http://www.birthorderandpersonality.com/...

* More than a five year gap
* Start a 'new' family

When there is more than a five year gap between two children, often a "new" is formed. Since the maturity levels of the children are so far apart, the birth order process often repeats itself. This may result in two first borns, or maybe a first born, middle born, last born, and then an only child, all depending on timing.

Like Amie - I have traits from both of the first born types.

My younger son doesn't fit either of the definitions and my oldest doesn't seem to totally fit the mold for first borns either.

My youngest.... I don't think totally fits the mold either. I always thought birth order had some merit and I still think it does, but I'm not sure a site that can't spell "mentality" properly is going to sway me.

Ummm...wow...So...I am middle born #1, and that list of compliant traits is me exactly! Interestingly, tho...so is the list of "compliant traits" for the first born...I am the second born child in my family and the FIRST born girl (out of 4)...so...I am a little bit of each...I do NOT have any of the aggressive traits of either group tho...

Not really applicable at all, except for my first born. He possesses all of the traits of a first born. All my middle children (there are 4 of them) possess some of the traits of both types of middles, and my last born well he's just a baby!
I was last born and have the traits of a first born, my brother who was first has the traits of a middle even though we have no middle kid in our family.
I've heard this research before and I don't put too much stock into it.
I thought my fifth was my last born until she was 4 and I found out about my real last!!

I'm a first born and am kind of a mix between the compliant first born and the last born. My sister who is the last born is actually more of aggressive first born. So a bit off for both of us.

I think my daughter is a bit of the aggressive first born. But then again, she's two.

My son is an only child, so I will go with me and my siblings. I am the oldest, then there are twins 2 years younger than me, and then there is a huge age gap between us and our youngest brother (9 years between me and him).

Me, the oldest: BANG ON! I fall under the aggressive category, although I do have a couple traits from the other.. lol
Twins: not so much... there is definitely the leader twin and the follower twin, but this was mostly as children. Now that they are adults, they are both their own people.
Youngest: pretty accurate... although since there is such a large age gap, I think he takes some traits from the only child category too

My sister is the last child (there's only me and her) and it fit her to a tee! For me as a first born, there were a lot of similarities, but some of the traits were really off.

I think this is definitely true. I don't have 3 or 4 kids but I had 3 brothers and sisters and we fit these types pretty well. My sister was the last born for 8 years and then my brother came along so they both have traits of the last born and my brother has traits of an only child because me and my other sister moved out of home when he was 5.

I found it interesting , i am also first born and had traits from both types but taking in the variables they present i think there could be something to birth order and personality .

I think it has some merit but it still boils down to an individual family style.

I am the oldest with 3 younger siblings.
I have traits from both first born types. My next brother does fit the first middle child, as does my sister fit the second middle child. My baby brother does not fit the last born type.

My children, so far, kind of fit but it's hard to tell. They are not yet grown but I can see a few of the traits in the older ones. Time will tell if it stays the same or if they change as they get older.
