Giving birth is a beautiful thing, not a beautiful "visual", I can do without the statue.

I don't mind the actual statue and I wouldn't be offended or find it obscene if I saw it in public. But tbh the way it portrays childbirth really is a joke...how many woman give birth next to a tree...and the reality is many women do have to give birth lying on a bed whether that's how it's meant to be or not is down to personal opinion. Just seems like a silly statue to me really and I'd mcuh prefer a statue of a woman breastfeeding or just holding her newborn.

i don't think its shocking. I think it is misleading. Where is the shit coming from the other side? Where are the lines of pain on her face? If your're out in the forest shooting blood, where is the ring of wolves waiting to pounce? Its not realistic and the more I look at it, lol, the more it irritates me. Oh, what is with it being white?

The thing is I don't mind watching a woman giving birth on tv, like soft porn scenes in soaps but I wouldn't want to see either portrayed in a statue in public.

I think it's nice, it's sad that in today's society we so readily accept sexual nudity and soft porn in all aspects of life, advertising, media, fashion, yet something as natural as this is seen as shocking.

I'm indifferent on it. It's not something I would put in my home. If it was in an OB office or in the maternity ward at the hospital, it would be appropriate.

I agree with what Liz said: "Giving birth is a beautiful thing but not a beautiful visual."

[deleted account]

I think it's a pretty statue :) I also think that if they can display naked men or sex scenes in public, they should be able to display a mother giving birth.

its lovely, but I don't think I would like one in my home. I live in Africa where that type statue is the norm and is not unusual to see them in a home. But no I am not fond of them. Lovely to look at but not on an everyday basis.

It's a very well made statue and I can appreciate the idealistic beauty of it....but it's not something I would like to see on a regular basis because it's not so much graphic...but I guess I'm a little more reserved when it comes to those things.

its not something i would necessarily like to look at, but i don't think it's obscene or anything. i'd much rather see a statue of a woman breastfeeding her child. plus i don't know of too many women who gave birth completely naked, while standing what looks to be outside. i dont' know, it's just not my bag, baby.

[deleted account]

I agree with Liz! Birth is a beautiful thing but tbh she could be squatting having a poo for all I know if I take my glasses off!

I think it is beautiful. It is peaceful and serene; it portrays how birth SHOULD be: none of this strapped to a bed and screaming shit.

the link worked for me...and while it's not my bag, I don't see anything obscene about it.

I gave birth naked, squatting at the end of my bed. My midwife at the time told me a LOT of women do. And I like to think I looked good lol! ;)

It's alright. Do that many woman really give birth naked? I doubt many look that good either...

Ooooooh.. Thanks for fixing the link..

The Britney Spears one= gross. The last one is.. Rather.. Interesting, to say the least. I don't know if it's something that *I* would want to see everyday.. Heck, I didn't even want to see it when I was having my son. They asked 'Do you want a mirror?' I said 'Heck no!' Haha.. In all seriousness, though.. I think it's a bit on the graphic side to be a public statue, but that's my opinion.

Not liking the one with the dog head or what ever it is but all the other ones are beautiful pieces of art.

I think it was at john hunter hospital i saw one of these statues outside their maternity and deliver unit. I love art, ALL art. These statues are beautiful and very well made.

It is beautiful Loureen. There's also one with a male statue leaning over the labouring mumma, rubbing her back. We have so few depictions of natural birth, these statues are a welcome addition to pop culture, which so far is full of images of screaming, hysterical mothers pushing on their backs with their feet in stirrups.

Well, the Brittany Spears one makes me think she wants to hump that dog whose head she's caressing, so yeah, that one is obscene, IMO! The other one, meh, I don't know. I'm not horrified by it or anything, but I can't say I love it either. I'd rather see a statue of a mother holding or breastfeeding her newborn baby than of her actually giving birth.

Hmm.. I clicked on it and it took me to a search page. Copied and pasted and it took me to a blank search page. :(

I havn't been able to view the pic either, BUT, I would rather see a statue that paid tribute to birth (which every human being has to undergo) than to a war scene. (I have no problem with statues of soldiers, I just don't like the ones depicting battle scenes, but I would never rally to have one removed either.)

I'd bet money that facebook thinks it's obscene and removed it. *eye roll*

I had to copy & paste to see it.

Meh.

I never thought birth was beautiful so the statue does nothing for me.
