Body mods...

Body modification (or body alteration) is the deliberate altering of the human body for aesthetic or non-medical purpose, such as sexual enhancement, a rite of passage, denoting affiliation, trust and loyalty, religious reasons, shock value, and self-expression.[1] It can range from the socially acceptable decoration (e.g., pierced ears in many societies) to the religiously mandated (e.g., circumcision in a number of cultures), and everywhere in between. Body art is the modification of any part of the human body for spiritual, religious, artistic or aesthetic reasons.

How do you feel about body mods? What would you consider too far? Do you have any mods? If you don't would you get any? How would you feel about your child getting any modifications?

Cosmetic surgery no, I don't want it, I am happy with me and how I am, however, if surgery makes you feel good about yourself and you can afford it and want it then there shouldn't be an issue with you getting it. I have friends who have used botox (they loved it and looked great) but the thought it just creeps me out, I don't want to inject stuff into my face, although who knows when I'm old and wrinkly (my friends weren't old and wrinkly they just thought they were).

I do have my ears pierced twice and a tattoo, I was just about to go get my second when I found out I was pregnant, so I'll get that when I have the baby maybe as a birthday prezzy. I feel kind of plain compared to you ladies, but I'm happy with my mods.

If I have a daughter she can get her ears pierced at about 12/13 ish if she wants them done and then all other piercings can wait until she is 18, I don't like facial piercings so I won't allow her to get them until she is an adult. As for tattoos, as long as she demonstrates that she is mature in her selection and she understands they are forever then she can have a small descret one once she is over 16 (if she can pass fo an 18 yo), I was 16 when I got my tattoo, and I still like it 10 years later, my dad came with me to a brill tattoo parlour and verified I was 18 which is why I could egt it done.

three piercings in each ear, naval and nose piercings...two tattoos and currently saving up for my third (which will be my biggest to date). I chose to let my son decide for himself if he wants to get circumcised as i see no reason to do it and of course any piercings and tattoos will be up to him as well. I am getting a breast reduction done at the end of the year and my nose set back into place but they're more medical than anything and they will be the only plastic surgery i consider getting done

body modification is a passion of mine. they are more than just art to me...there is something spiritual and beautiful about the pain, and making your body truly your own. i don't have nearly as many mods as i would like, but i have my whole life so i am in no hurry. i think the only mods i'm uncomfortable with are genital mods outside of the normal piercings.

i have 5 tattoos (my chest piece is giant, it goes from shoulder to shoulder), and at one point had 17 piercings. the only piercings i have left are my nose, monroe, snakebites, vertical labret and my ears which are stretched to 7/8 of an inch. my mom is literally disgusted by my ears...i started stretching them when i was 14ish and she always told me that i would regret it but now nearly 9 years later and they are still my favorite. i wish i could go bigger but i don't have much earlobe left.

i have an obsession with suspension and it is definitely something i will do one day.

as for my kids, no mods other than pierced ears and nose before the age of 16 and absolutely no tattoos or heavier mods until they are 18.

I don't think any body mod is necessary. I wouldn't get any. Just don't want to spend money on it. I have a man who loves me how I am. My kids can do what they want when they are old enough to have a job and pay for it themselves [unless is a boob job or something. must be 18 and out of my home -still paying for it themselves]. But if they wanted ears pierced, or something like that, that's fine. If son decides he wants to be circ-ed he may have to wait until he's 18 and can pay for that, too. I consider it cosmetic and not needed. I go by new testament on that one, so circing isn't part of my religion.

I would let daughter get ears pierced at 12/13. but not until then. I know many women who wished their parents didn't do it. But that's the only one i consider ok for underage.

Lets see, my ears have been gauged to a 0. I've had my eyebrow done, tummy, and nose. have 2 tattoos (planning on more) and I want my husband to have alot more than just one tattoo.

I got my eyebrow done at 16, mom signed for it but refused to watch it get done =). If my daughter wants to for her 16th birthday get some kind of piercing done, I would do it without a problem. Tattoos, she has to be old enough to sign and pay for it. I personally think getting inked all over is not attractive but if you like it, hey go for it. All my tattoos can be covered easily and i'd hope my daughter would do the same if she wants some. Not all jobs like the showing off tattoos lol

OMG Loureen I WISH I had a split tongue! I think they are sooo neat, but I can't do anything interesting with my tongue (get your minds out of the gutter now ladies :P ) so I don't think it would be worth it if you can't move the sides up and down independently :( I am so untalented *tear* lol

I LOVE body mods. I have 8 tattoos and 9 piercings (including 0g lobes) and have retired 8 others. I have a bunch more tats and piercings planned too (including some dermal anchoring and a vertical labret).
I don't particularly like facial tattoos (even tho I technically have one...it's just a little star in front of my ear lol) so I feel that that is a bit too far; but other than that, have at her.
My kids can get their ears pierced when they ask, and any other piercing they want when they show the proper maturity level and meet the legal piercing age. No tattoos until they are 18...maybe 17 depending...

Something neat-- I've met the Llizard Man on many occasion :P

He's friends with one of my hubby's close friends. We'll actually be getting together with him again in April

They say the only people who regret your tattoos are other people without tattoos of course there is the odd piece that you may have chosen for your first time or first love but generally people who have tatts , love tatts and if they regret it they can cover it they are generally more respectful of other peoples choices when it comes to self expression .

Nikkole: I actually really liked the guy's arm -- how he used the skin divers to enhance his tattoo. That looks really, really cool.

I like body mods, but with some of the more extreme stuff (like freaky cat man), I can't help but think, "Dude, you are REALLY going to regret that in 10 years." But, maybe not. Their body, their business. But yeah, if Sam came home like that, I'd bawl my eyes out for months.

I don't mind body mods of any kind as long as I can see you for you. If your face is covered in tats, metal, and holes I can't really see you the way you were born and it does bother me. However, I do understand that for those people out there like that, they do that to better express or show who they see themselves as. (make sense?)

i;m a bit weird when it comes to body modification. i love tattoos, but i hate them on the face. maybe a couple stars or something but anymore than that isn't pleasing for me to look at.
i also don't like splitting your tongue, or penis, or whatever fucked up thing you want to do to your body like that. it doesn't make sense to me, but hten i guess tattoos don't makes sense to other people as well, llol.
the big nasty piercings in the ears, those are icky to me as well. any other piercing is fine by me that i've seen, those just don't do it for me.

those hearts are pretty to me. ;)

When my son told us his new girlfriend had numerous tattoos and piecing we were a bit shocked and wondered what to expect, Once we met her we discovered her tats are beautiful and `I'm getting used to the piecing, she's fantastic, and i might get a tat myself once i've had my tummy tuck!
There goes another one of my predaceous "hooray"

I have no issues with any of them if it's your choice to do it and you like it, then go for it! I wouldn't do it to my child unless they asked for something like getting ears pierced. I would not allow any facial piercings - they can wait until they're 18 if that's what they really want. I used to have both nipples pierced, my belly button in 3 places (top and both sides), my ears stretched, and my tongue pierces. Now all I have left is my tragus, and my 2 regular holes in my ears (the holes shrank back to almost normal size). Plus I have my whole back tattooed, 1 little one between my boobs, and my whole lower abdomen covered. I probably wouldn't get any of the piercings again as the tongue one always hurt my teeth (I have a VERY short tongue so it was up close to the front), my belly button is kind of mangled from pregnancy, and the nipple ones kind of bugged me sometimes. But I would consider stretching my ears again.

I've had 9 piercings and am going to get a tat when i'm 18.
I don't think anything is too far if the person getting them knows exactly what they are doing and is making the decision by themselves!
However i would be horrified if my daughter one day covered her face in piercings and her body in tattoos lol.

I'm against circumcision (for non medical reasons) and all other procedures performed on children before they can make those decisions. I even hate ear piercings on babies because it is not their parents decision to make! It is not their parents body!
I think wait until your child asks to have their ears pierced before just going and mutilating or 'modifying' their body.

I actually love tats, but i hate when people under age get ones they will so obviously regret like a friends name or some stupid picture from a tv show. I would love to get my daughters name tattooed on me, just a small one on my wrist because i know i won't regret it. I'd get it done today but i have too much respect for my mum to go behind her back to get it.

Tattoos are artwork (mostly) and i don't think its fair that people with non-offensive tattoos should be unemployable. Pretty much everyone has them these days!

I myself have 20 tattoos (and getting many more, when I'm done breasetfeeding), and have had many piercings (labret, nostril x2, septum, double eyebrow, snakebite, bridge x2, nipples, upper and lower navel, plus 7 ear piercings, 6 of which were gauged from a 12 to a 0). Now I have only 4 earholes that never closed, and I use on occasion. A body mod I would love to get - new boobs! I am not a fan of tongue splitting, but that's about it. Things like implants and scarification can look wonderful if done right.

As far as my girls, they can get their ears pierced around ages 8-10, and maybe something like a nose or navel at 15/16 (only because they healed quickly with little scarring in me). Otherwise, no mods until 18.

I'm ok with the more standard piercings (ears, nose, belly button, tongue, labret etc) and tattoos, but once you get into the crazy stuff I'm out! I saw a story on a woman who had a star-shaped piece of silicone (I think?) implanted in her forearm. That's just freaky and gross to me. I also had an old muso friend who had the back of his neck pierced. I totally freaked out the first time he showed me lol. Definitely not my thing.

My daughter will be allowed to have her ears pierced sometime in primary school (depending on when she asks and her maturity level). Any other piercings or tattoos will wait until 18. I would hate for her to regret something she got done as a kid and then blame me for not stopping her.

I like them. I think some people go too far with them though, to the point where their only place of employment would ever be a tattoo and piercing studio. I have no tattoos yet but I've had the top adn bottom of my belly button, earlobes twice and a cartilage in both sides at the top all the piercings have come out except the standard lobe piercing. I would get a tattoo and my navel done again and my nipples. My kids can do what they want once they can pay for it themself. I'd pay for their first lobe piercing but not navels or noses or tattoos. No tattoos until they're legally allowed.

I did have my labret , beauty spot , hands , little bit of skin under your top lip ( ring ) nose , upper ear cartilage .

I love tattoos and piercings , I think they look hot .

How would I feel about my child ? once they are old enough to make a mature decision ( piercings other than ear and nose 16 and up ) tattoos after 18 years and after I was satisfied with the thought they put into it but yeah if my boys do decide to get tattoos I would love to pay for their first .

No cosmetic body modification for someone who can't consent to it, and like Kate, no tattoos before 18 (but that's only because my husband is against it). Their bodies, their choice after that....something odd might take me a bit to get over, but that's just me.

I have 8 piercings, in the ears only and a big tattoo on my back. That's about it for me, no desire for anything else.

I have 7 piercings and 10 tattoos, my back mingled into a giant tattoo so i guess now i have 5....LOL I had stretched ears but they got infected and i took them out. Tattoos are body mods. Its an alteration to the body, even earrings are a mod. If gabby wanted to get anything done when shes older, i would allow her to. Only if she was mature enough to realize...its forever.
