I agree with Laura! I was thinking the same thing. My son is intact and has always played with his penis, from what I remember, he is now 5. I personally believe that pain is a factor with circumcision and that babies can remember it for quite sometime. But that is another topic for another forum! LOL

Really, it's just a penis ladies! Not a rattlesnake! LOL Boys play with their weewees. It's a part of life and their is nothing wrong with it at all. Don't tell him to stop touching his penis any sonner then you would tell him to stop touching his toes. Which, by the way, the feet have just as many sexual receptors as the penis does. Just food for thought for tose who were going to blast me for giving a child the green light to do....you know what! LOL

My 2 year old will sit on the couch, take his diaper off and play with himself. We need to keep him in an undershirt and pants if we're in public. Starte to this point about 6 months ago. But he's always played with himself. Its natural

I don't remember how old Cole was, around 6 months, I think. Zach was younger, 3 or 4 months. They both love their penises! Cole is 3 now and totally manhandles his! His foreskin retracts now and to be honest, it kind of creeps me out when he does it. It just looks like it'd hurt! Clearly he wouldn't be doing it if it did, but it looks like it would!

I helped raised my lil bro and he was at it all the time.

I agree with the whole....how do they handle such rough treatment. That goes for the girls and the boys. My 20 mouth old is rough on her lady parts too.

yeah its normal they find it young and never let go although my son at 16 months is now less interested because i just point and say "marshall's penis"...i do make a game out of it though when im changing him and he wont move his hand i pull the nappy over and say in a big excited voice "trap marshall's hand" pull it away see if he moves and if he doesn't i repeat...i call it penis peek-a-boo

my little guy was really young (cant remember exactly how young) when he found it. he is circ'd by the way, not that that matters. anyway, once he grabbed it, he never let go. lol!he is 3 now and thinks its just as cool now as he did the first time he found it. what really surprised me is that my daughter was also real young when she started grabbing at herself down there. that one caught me off guard.lol!

Wow, Kate, I'm impressed that he's already grabbing at it! I do think he is advanced, but only in that he's grabbing his penis when he can't even really see it (if it's during nappy changes). My eldest (4 yr old) was about 8 months old when he first grabbed on and it hasn't seemed to stop yet! His favourite thing to do is twist it around his finger. Yow! Oh, one time when he was about two I saw him wrapping it around a toy car while standing, legs spread. Once he wrapped the car up, he swung his hips and sent the car flying. What a great game that was! Weird kid. :-)

My younger son (2 yr old) was a relative late bloomer. He doesn't really grab his penis even now. His thing is to straighten both legs and press them together as hard as he can. Maybe he thinks he's being more discrete with his masturbating, I don't know, but the grunting is a bit of a giveaway.

I don't remember when my boys first started doing it a lot (both are circumcised by the way), but I know that I am always telling them to leave it alone already. When I am changing my 2.5 year old, he constantly has his hands in that area, pulling it, twisting it, pressing down on it. It seems natural to me.

Completely normal Kate, my LO was a few months old when he found his and like the others he tugs and pulls at it SOOOOOO hard I cringe - I don't know how it doesn't hurt. But it can't hurt because he always giggles his head off when he does it :-)

I had never been around boys and have a little one. First time he realized it was there he was around 8 months old in the bathtub and realized it kinda floated. He pushed it down, it floated back up, pushed down..repeat. lol. I was like....uh, Aaron, is he supposed to be doing that? :) But other than that...he hasn't really played with it. Recently he did push it down into the new potty. He'll be 2 in two weeks. I'm sure once potty training starts full on it'll be his new favorite thing to hold.

My little guy has known his little friend since birth. It is one of the most sensitive places and fairly easy for them to reach. Totally normal.

Woah, my little guy is 7 weeks and can't intentionally grab at anything yet! I'm more impressed your baby is grabbing at something :)

My son is constantly playing with himself. Has been doing it since he was an infant. My friend always laughed at him thinking it was strange. She has a 3 year old in tact boy and he just started playing with himself once he became potty trained. I don't think it has anything to do with being circ'd but everything to do with feeling good and if it feels good they are going to do it. My husband is circ'd and wants sex 2 or 3 times a day and who knows what he does in the computer room alone at night. lol

Yes, I know all about circumcision Tara. There still is sensation with a circ'd penis and it still has nothing to do with the fact of whether boys play with their penis or not. There are plenty of boys who are intact that don't play with their penis either.

April, lots of boys don't play with themselves until later in life, and Dana it rarely has anything to do with whether they are intact or not, but it does sometimes have something to do with it.
When a baby is circ'd they remove part or all of the frenular band is removed:
"frenular delta

A triangular area of mucosa under the penis whose apex is the frenulum, whose sides are the ridged band and whose base is the junction between the inner and outer zones of the foreskin (the transition zone). A highly erogenous area, often completely ablated (destroyed) by circumcision. Described by Ken McGrath and announced at the Sixth International Symposium on Genital Integrity, Sydney, 9 December 2000."
This can lead to a marked decrease in sensation, but due to a lack of studies on this area of an infants response to stimulus of the genitalia no one can be clear on how much sensation is lost during RIC.

This isn't directed at you at all but, it's getting really ridiculous to think that boys don't touch their penis if they've been circumcised. It's insane and takes whether boys have been circumcised or not to stupid extremes.

my son is not intact and maybe that is why he has hardly ever touched his penis? He was never the baby that discovered it early or the toddler that discovered it after a year. He is now 2 and still doesn't touch it! I think I'd rather he DID touch it, so I know he is doing something normal!! :(

Well some baby boys discover it in the womb. When did I discover my son getting erections? Probably around the same time you did; maybe around 1 or 2 months? I think as soon as he had control over his hands he was pulling on it.

My SIL use to say her son pulled on his penis so hard she was afraid he'd injure himself!

My daughter is 10 months old and I have yet to see her exploring her vagina. Maybe it's because of the anatomical features of the penis, it's easier to find.

Story from the school tuckshop....
I was working there one day and serving at the counter after lunches had been sent out. We have a variety of frozen treat, cookies, popcorn, etc, to sell to the kids.

ANYWAY, I was serving at the Kindergarten/year One window (which is always very interesting and very cute), and while I was serving one little boy I really struggled to keep a straight face. He was standing there trying to decide what to buy, but his hand were down his pants and he was playing with his penis. This kid had to be at LEAST 6......

My 8 month old plays with it constantly and has done for a while. It's frustrating when he has a dirty bum cause then i have to try and keep his hands away from it before he gets poo everywhere.
My 2 yr old is toilet trained and thinks it's great to just drop his dacks anywhere and pee. He is starting to see how far he can pee.

Just read the comments. Didn't mean to mention circumcision, sorry. It's just a valid thought in my mind as to why erics hands didn't venture south until closer to a year old.

I do think no circumcised boy would be playing with his penis at a few days old. That would obviously hurt him.

So yeah, circed or not they all grow to love their penis, but I'd assume healing pain would definitely delay a newborns interest down there.

Eric was older, maybe 7,8,9 months. But I have a friend whose son was barely born when he discovered his penis!
Maybe Eric didn't touch it for a while cuz it was circumcised and he had memories of pain down there. :(

My 11month old immediately goes for his Penis when I take his diaper off, and he is a poker and a puller. He goes to town on it, and to me it seems like it should hurt.

Does every debate about penises have to be a debate about circumcision? Boys play with their penises, period. Circumcised, uncircumcised, they discover it quite young, and play with it. Anyone who says their son never did it is just embarrassed to admit it.

Circumcision was performed to reduce masturbatory activities, because it was perceived to not offer the same level of stimulation and pleasure. But again that is not why I posted it. But that may be why some (another time I could italicize) babies who are circ'd don't do it as often when they are small. Just saying...
