Could be a debate but, more of an interesting question

I was just talking to some friends about bathing and showering. I mentioned that I shower after I have a bath. BUT, it's more like doing a quick rinse to wash off any grim or dead skin (sorry, gross, I know) that accumulates after laying in bath water.

So, how many of you shower or do a quick rinse after a bath? How many think it's crazy or how many think it's crazy NOT too?

I will take a shower after a bath, but only if ive put a crap ton of oils or salts or something in the water for a nice comfortable soak. If its just a nice warm bath to clean up, I dont bother. Our tub in our apartment really sucks, and I rarely find myself taking a bath in the first place, I much prefer the shower...our shower head is awesome!

My one bathroom has a shower only and the other a bath only. They are a steep set of stairs apart. So which I choose depends on where in the house I am. Obviously its impractical to 'rinse off'

I always take a quick rinse shower after a bath...it just makes me feel better. Baths are relaxing and I'll wash everything just like I would in a shower but for some reason, I don't feel completely clean until I do my quick shower after the bath.

We are in the process of redoing our downstairs bathroom so at the moment we only have our jet tub. But honestly I never really shower don't think I get filthy enough to not have a bath and if I do I rinse off before the bath.

Finally had my first bath in aaaaaaaaaaaggggeesss and only because I am ill and the warm water makes my muscles feel better. That and the fact that hubby threatened to bury the kids in the backyard in the cabbage patch (smell of cabbages hide the smell of future zombies;) if they didn't leave me alone. Feeling a bit better or at least not so sore all over.

I do that to.... though I rinse off any real dirt first (my kids like to "decorate" me with any mess they happen to make.... mostly the older one...), then I soak to relax muscle's... then I get clean. That way, if something interrupt me, it won't be the bath... but if they interrupt my actual shower.... then I can just jump back in later to get clean... or just spread rinse (if I am already to that point).

I shower before a bath to make sure I'm clean and not soaking in my own filth. Think I might shower before and after now.

I shower after a bath because nowadays I usually only bathe after I work or if I'm dirty. (Hehe) So I'll lay in the bubbles and read, but afterward I need to shampoo and stuff. LOL I like to shave my legs better in the bath, as well, so then I need a shower to get the dirt off me. LOL But if I were to just take a bath for no other reason but to relax (like if I showered earlier in the day) then I would probably rinse off to get the bubbles off, but I wouldn't wash up again.

I love baths. Every Saturday, children permitting, I take a long, hot soak. Showers are for getting clean but baths are for relaxing.

I HATE BATHS! Just sayin....

On the rare occasion where I have had a bath, I've showered afterwards, yes.

You guys must have a lot of time on your hands to do double duty washing and double baths for babies even. Sorry, but you're all crazy! :P I'm off to go soak in my own filth, and then later I'm going to sit on my couch that's covered in dead skin cells, and set my drink down on my table that has dead skin cells on it, and sleep on my pillow that I probably drooled on last night and has more dead skin cells on it. Skin, skin, everywhere is skin! WOOOOOOOOO!

The Japanese do the reverse - they shower by soaping up and rinsing off with water poured over them from buckets, THEN they get in the big tub and soak.

Because, Laura, even if you get clean in the shower, soaking in the tub is still going to loosen up dead skin cells more than a shower would. So, while you think you're clean, you're still soaking in your dead skin cells. ;)

I really just think you all do it backwards! Why not wash in the shower first then you can soak in a clean bath now that your body is clean! I just think this makes more snese then sitting in dirty water and getting clean afterwords......
Eric didn't have his first bath til he was about 10 months, before that I always washed him in the shower with me. Fierna has only had showers so far too.

Jenn.I have two baths for the kids.Well i did when they were babies.I would wash there hair over the bath first.

Then get my partner to rinse out the bath and refill.I then washed them in the tops and tails bath.I then had another bath once they were washed to put them in to allow them to relax and play once clean.Only if i had the time etc.Sometimes it was just the tops and tails bath.

So they were ever in the bath fully with germs from there bum etc all around them.

Thats why i do the tops and tail wash first. To remove all germs from the body before there full bath time.

I hate baths! I don't like getting prune-y and I always get cold too fast, and bored. The only time I took them regularly was while my stitches were healing after both of my pregnancies. I'm definitely a rinse-off-in-the-shower girl too.

Same here Dana.Nothing worse than soaking in a bath and getting straight out.You have to wash off what you were soaking in..all kinds of stuff come off our bodys while soaking in the bath.I have to have a rinse with the shower..its a must.Bath to relax and a shower to clean.Perfect not crazy.:-P

I love baths! But I always shower after a bath, because A) it's hard to wash your hair in the bath, so I wash my body in the bath, then shower and wash my hair, and B) I have to soak my legs before shaving them, so I have to shower myself off afterwards - I hate thinking about tiny little leg hairs getting stuck on my body after floating around in the bath, lol.

Joy - posted on 06/29/2011

I always shower after a bath, ESPECIALLY if I've just shaved my legs. Like you said, dead skin, not to mention hair....ew! I also usually give the tub a quick scrub, at least along the sides, after I've taken a bath. That way there's not a gross "hairline" around it. So no, it's not just you and no you're not crazy lol

Edited to add: After reading the replies....Jacob takes a bath to play. Then, we drain the tub and he gets a wash down with the shower (YAY for hand held shower heads BTW!). So no, he doesn't "sit in his filth" either lol It's not so much that I think it's filth, as in "EW you're DIRTY if you do it". It just grosses ME out, just the thought of walking around with random leg hairs stuck to me, dead skin floating and then sticking to me as I dry. I have really sensitive skin and if I didn't shower, even a quick rinse, not only would I not feel clean, I also would itch all day/night.

So, just curious, for those those are all "eww, bath filth" - what about your babies? Are they sitting in their own filth? Or do you shower them too? I guess I'm really not that concerned about some dead skin cells - they were on my body to start with, they're in the air, they're all over my house - dust anyone? I'm actually amazed at how many of you shower after a bath. I've honestly never heard of such a thing and it seems wasteful - of both time and water. I do prefer a shower, because it's faster and I love to feel the water beating down on me, but since we don't have a shower, a bath works just fine, and I don't ever feel gross, or icky, or like I'm covered in bath slime - just squeaky clean.

I only have showers. I had baths when my son was a small baby, he got too big for the bathroom sink (our sink was quite big so we never bought a baby bath) but wasn't really big enough to bath in the big bath on his own. Other than that I shower.

When we lived in rural Wales a few years ago our rental didn't have a shower. The bath was under the eaves so we couldn't even install a temporary one that attached to the bath taps as the roof was too low to stand up! After baths every day for 4 years I was cured of them. Much prefer a shower.

I don't take baths very often but when I do I normally need to rinse my hair in the shower after so everything else gets a rinse too.

The boys just have baths and I don't attempt to rinse them off in the shower... they'd freak out about that! The youngest always gets his bum cleaned before going in the bath or it may defeat the purpose.

I always shower after a bath .....I mean a bath is nice but your essentially soaking in dead skin cells, dirt , genital and armpit sweat and smell, lets add some soap you hop out of the bath and your STILL covered in all that stuff .

There is a difference between dry filth and wet filth, we used to only have a bath even then I still loofad off with fresh water after.

I dont mean to offend anyone its just one of those things that irks me, It doesnt irk me when other dont shower off because honestly I wouldnt be able to tell.

I think the last time I took a bath was when I was still pregnant. Actually, I did that a lot while pregnant, but then it was never for the purpose of getting clean; I usually was just soaking in warm water for the purpose of comfort, and it was in addition to a daily shower. I typically used some type of aromatherapy oils, but I never rinsed off; I've always had dry skin, so I didn't want to rinse off the oils.

As for the girl - she always sits on the potty prior to a bath, so I wipe down her bottom pretty thoroughly before she gets in the tub. We use bubble bath, and we scrub down and wash her hair. I then drain the tub, rinse her down, and refill with just water for her to play some more. I found that I had to do it this way for two reasons: I absolutely need to get all the soap off of her, since she too has dry/sensitive skin, and, she has an almost freakish amount of hair for a 2 y/o, so rinsing all of the shampoo out is really a chore. If I wash her hair, and then rinse it out without draining the tub, she kept getting her cleaned hair full of the soapy tub water after I rinsed it out. This way, we take care of "business" first, and she can then play in the (clean) water to her little heart's content.

In the summer, no matter what i do all day I am filthy at the end of the day. Where I live it gets over 100 degrees (F) every day in the summer and no matter how good my air conditioning is I still sweat. It's gross and NOT something I want to depend on a bath to clean off. That's just really gross to me...

I would shower after a bath if I could but tub is upstairs, shower downstairs. I do use a large cup with fresh water to do a rinse.

One day in massage school at break, we were debating which was better for the skin, bath or shower. The one student was an esthetician and said that you should soak in the tub to loosen up and remove the layers of dead, dry skin, but then you need to shower to rinse those layers off.

Jenn, it's not necessarily "filthy" but, a bath does soak off dead skin...
And I'm never filthy when I shower or bathe to begin with, I shower every day. Still, there is going to be some dirt and dead skin cells in a bath.

I have two reasons....1 I just don't have time with 3 kids to take a bath anymore and 2 I don't like sitting in dirty water. HOWEVER, if I was going to take a bath I would definitely rinse off afterwards. I don't think that is weird at all.

I have a bath everyday with my daughter, were on tank water, so it saves water (we have an enormous spa bath) and she loves having a bath with me. I usually shower first, wash my hair, wash my daughters then we have a bath. I don't have an issue with the "filth" but Issy likes to splash the water and I don't want her getting shampoo in her eyes.

I rarely take baths. (We have a very small tub and I'm a big girl, so it's about as relaxing as sitting in a puddle.) However, on the rare occasions when I have access to a big tub, the bath is for relaxing, not cleaning myself. I don't take a bath if I'm dirty or grimy.

And I hear you about the kids' bath. I always make sure to give my kid's junk a good going-over with the wet wipes before he gets anywhere near the bathtub. I'm not washing his face with poop-water.
