Obviously there's a lot missing in this story and it looks like there wasn't much news coverage. Most of what I found were other forums discussing the matter.
As of an update to this story, it appears that the ban was lifted on the condition that she follows all safety rules. But I would still like to hear other people's opinions on this.
My opinion? Schools have gone insane, teachers/principals/people in authority have gone power mad, and the whole system is pretty much shot and needs to be completely rebuilt from the ground up. What's wrong with people? . . . . .

To me this makes absolutely no sense. Sign language is the way this girl talks and so they are basically saying that she has no 'freedom of speech'. The school board in that area is completely out of whack!

Emma--

I am unable to rate your posts for some odd reason. I found one helpful and encouraging and the other funny and (imo) encouraging...I'll let you figure out which one is which! HAHA

I would personally learn all the cursing words and then transport myself to that Headmasters office to try them out!

Ironically, statistically there is more chance of that bus crashing, than someone being injured during a sign language conversation.

This is a Health and Safety world gone bonkers,

I personally think it should be compulsory that schools no longer teach RE or some language one is never going to use, and instead teach sign language, We are all missing out on a huge group of people by the way of friendships, inspiration, life partners etc, simply because we cannot communicate with them.

Also, sign language is very sought after as a skill in the employment world, so it would ultimately be offering our kids another avenue in a choice of career when they leave school.

What was dangerous about her signing? I'm confused.

"I" can preach white supremacy because it's freedom of speech...and not at all inflammatory or offensive or likely to cause violence! ~pure sarcasm~ The schools will protect "my" right to do that.

"I" can't say the Pledge because God is not allowed in schools and I cannot pray because prayer is NOT covered under freedom of speech.

Now, "I" can't sign because it is dangerous. Quick question...out of the 75 kids on the bus, how many actually understand her signing enough in order enough for her to be perceived as "dangerous?"

I agree, they completely go over the top. They hardly address bullies, yet some are suspended for finger guns.
