When I was first married I hardly used the dishwasher I actually would forget that I owned one. When the babies came yes the dishwasher is a God sent. I now have 2 boys and 1 more coming and a husband who does not rinse out a cup so yes I love my dishwasher. Yes now that they are older I stack the dishes and the boys take out the dishes when they are cleaned. The youngest one puts the flat pieces away and the older one takes the dishes and puts the piles up on the counter if he cannot reach the cabinet (I will not let him climb)

I dread doing dishes. That is the one thing I hate to do. I don't mind doing any other house chores but dishes I hate. I wish I had a dishwasher. I bribe my fiance to do them. Even though I shouldn't have to since I do everything else. Dishwashers are a gift. Maybe that's what I'll ask for for Christmas.

IT is a gift from the gods!!!! ... I recently moved and my new house doesnt have a dishwasher ... everytime im doing dishes i cant stop but think how much time im wasting and what i would much rather be doing!

A dishwasher is DEFINATELY a gift from GOD!! My family hasn't ever had one, but we just got one my husband's christmas present to me!! And I love it! We put them away when they are clean, and "doing the dishes" includes loading & unloading the dishwasher.

I never really used mine regularly until we got a brand new one this year when we remodeled our kitchen. This one works great so I use it daily. I don't mind doing dishes, but it's nice to load it up after dinner so I can spend time with my family rather than stand at the sink for 45 min doing dishes.

I'm the only one who loads/unloads because I'm the only one who cleans the kitchen. I like it that way.

I use JetDry powerball tabs....and I can't use the dishwasher without rinse aid. I can always tell when it needs to be refilled because it shows in the dishes. Once you start using it you'll never go back! I get dollar off coupons for it all the time and typically it only costs me about 5 dollars every other month for it. Completely worth it, IMO.

I personally prefer to wash my dishes by hand. We already have enough electronics in our house that cost us to repair the way it is so I dn't feel like adding another to the list. Our landlord who we are renting to own the house from offered to put one in and I gladly declined. My parents didn't have one while I was growing up. It was a chore, but it was something I enjoyed doing.

I wash dishes after lunchtime, and after dinner. I enjoy the 20 min I get to spend listening to music while washing dishes! :)

I doubt a dishwasher would save us water or electricity. I wash the same as Dana S. I do want one though but because we rent we don't get one. :(

i love my dishwasher!! i make my oldest boy empties the dishwasher everyday, hehe.

i think the dishwashwer is an awesome invention. i'm not all about getting everybit of food off, and stuff. plus dish drainers, or strainers whatever theyr'e called are not big enough to hold all my dishes. i feel it's a hell of a lot easier with a dishwasher!

I dunno Becky, I'd say the clothes washing machine is the best invention. I'll wash dishes by hand but fuck me I won't drag washing down to a river to wash it. Or even the bath. I use reuseable nappies. Those things are nasty.

But yes, dishwashers are awesome. I try to unload it when its done because my husband is not very observant and he'd add dirty dishes to the clean! We still do dishes in the sink every night though because we have stuff that doesn't go in the dishwasher or I need it more often than we put the dishwasher on.

Dishwashers are the singular best invention ever! lol!
I unload and reload the dish washer daily. Well, almost anyway. Some days I'm lazy! And yes, wash the dishes includes putting them away.
My dishwasher is currently annoying me though. We don't have a water softener in our new house yet, and my dishwasher is leaving a white film on everything. Ick. But, it's not annoying enough to make me do my dishes by hand!

Don't own a dishwasher. I am it and no I do not put my dishes away after they are washed they sit in the strainer until I need to do the next sink full of dishes.

JUST bought a new house and it came with a dishwasher. i LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! It is NOT the same amount of work. I never had one in any place i've owned before and it is a gift from the Gods as Sharon put it!!

When you have 12 house guests at Christmas they are a gift from god. Come to think of it when you enjoy socializing whether for 2 or 60 they will always be the greatest invention amoung all the appliances in my kitchen that includes my pasta machine, blender, smoothie maker, juicer, electric whisk, electric knife, and etc.....

I adore my dishwasher. Before having it, I found there was ALWAYS a dirty glass, or a dirty fork or spoon hanging around. I'd do all the dishes and then would find a dirty glass up in our bedroom. And entertaining was an absolute nightmare!

I always empty the dishwasher once it's done and put everything away so that I start loading it up again.

To me, "washing the dishes" means washing and drying the dishes, putting them away, clearing off the countertops and wiping them down, and sweeping the floor.

Last week was the first time hubby had ever used a dishwasher. Before we moved in, I'd never used one either. But I've always hated dishes. I'd prefer paper plates too.

I've had a dishwasher in this house since we move din about 3 years ago, and it has never been hooked up.



I'm working on that though lol. As soon as I get some free cash and free time on the same weekend....

Oh man...if I didn't have a dishwasher, we would need paper plates for sure. I do both...if I have time to put them away right when they are done I do...but I am known to set the table straight from the dishwasher also. My son loves to help load and put them away. I wish I didn't need to help him,..he could have at it! I don't mind doing the dishes, or laundry..but I HATE putting the laundry away!

My hubby has a hard time remembering to wash his dishes after he's done with them. For example, he'll eat a bowl of cereal and then just set it in the sink (sometimes he won't even make it that far) without even rinsing it out so the cereal that's left dries onto the bowl. Bastard. When we first moved in and up until then we washed all our dishes by hand. But then I realized how hubby was with dishes and decided we might as well start using the dishwasher.

I try to wash my dishes by hand after every meal but I at least rinse them out or let them soak. We don't exactly have set meal times either so it's really like if you're hungry go make something to eat. It's because hubby works at night all the time and so it's just eat when we get up and before he goes to work. But he's about to get a morning job, 8-5, so it'll change :)

Since it's just hubby and I, we usually end up letting the sink pile up after about a week (we're usually pretty good about cleaning dishes after we're done with them and we have a set for four when there's only us two) and then when it's hubby's turn he usually washes them by hand but when it's my turn I'm fat and pregnant so I tend to be a bit more lazy.

I soak them in hot water for an hour, then throw them in the dishwasher. I do the expensive/fancy stuff and the silverware by hand though.

Oh and the thing I hate about the dishwasher is that both my boys, especially my two year old loves to press the buttons and there has been a number of times where he ended up starting it with nothing inside and he also likes to try to stand and sit on the door when it is open. I hope he doesn't break the door off some day bahahaha.

I wash dishes maybe 3-4 times a day. I have a dishwaser, but I only use it when I/we have a lot of dishes like for instance when I make pasta there is a lot more pots and bulky itema than the average dinner for me. We don't have a lot of extra dishes, that is another reason why I don't use it often because I don't think it would be full enough.
I think for some people it may show laziness, but not for everyone. Some people have really big families so it is quite useful for them. My husband claims that sometimes when he loads the dishwasher it is because he is lazy and usually that means it is not going to be full either hahaha. I usually don't put the dishes away until the next day. IMO, I have no reason do it any earlier because I run it after dinner and those items won't be needed again til at least the following day.

Loureen, I've heard that it's less water to have one too but, I wonder about that with the way I do dishes. I don't leave the water running the whole time I do mine. I wash them, set them in the other side of the sink until I'm done, then I rinse them all at once. The water also isn't nearly as hot as the water being used for the dishwasher, so you save energy there too.

i actually WAS the dishwasher until i met my husband..he literally had to keep saying(while we were dating) and i would be at his apt..."you know i have dishwasher right?, you can stop doing them buy hand, then he would come to my townhouse and get frustrated because i didn't have one...lol..

Now i like to wash certain things by hand, i think it facilitates laziness in my kids, they have never had to do dishes for 15 plus people 2 nights a week by hand and also clean the rest of the kitchen and the dining room. I tell them they are soiled because i will open the dishwasher when they are at school in the mornings and either they never put them away or haven't started the dishwasher so they are still dirty...My sister had one for 7 years and just started letting my nieces and nephew use it..LMBO..sorry..but i think i need to do that so that they can appreciate it...and yes wash the dishes means put them away....

I love my dishwasher. I wash ppots and pans by hand for the most part (sometimes i'll put a smaller pot int he top rack if there is space).

It saves me time and with my daughters allergies, I can be sure that all the traces of allergens are off the dishes and cutlery. Doing those by hand is a pain the in the butt cause everything needs to be washed at least twice with seperate cloths, and I just don't have time to spend all my day at the sink.

One night when my daughter was younger and I was handwashing most stuff, I grabbed a bowl from the "dirty" side of the sink by accident and used it and ended up calling an ambulance and giving my daughter an epi-pen because I guess it had some dairy residue in it or something (even though I disn't see anything). Not taking that chance again! That was a bloody expensive mistake (and stressful one).

I LOVE my dishwasher!!!
I put the clean dishes away every morning while making breakfast so that I can put dirty dishes directly in it throughout the day, then i run it at night.
Ours is wonderful, but I will admit there are some crappy ones out there that make it more work than it should be. My Mom-in-law has to rinse every dish before she puts it in the dishwasher...she might as well just wash it. Then, she has to wipe down the silverware and some of the glasses with a cloth afterwards because they get spots on them. I think that is from the drier not working well and taking too long to dry....I dunno, I'm just glad mine doesn't do that.

I love mine! It's old and an ugly mustard yellow straight out of 1970 and it matches my ugly mustard yellow sink and ugly mustard yellow range hood, but it does the job. I also use the Finish Quantum as they tend to get the best results in my old beast. At least with a dishwasher you can hide the mess and not have dirty dishes piled up on the counter or in the sink.

I wash EVERYTHING in my dishwasher, I think it blew up from over use, I even wash my electric fry pan. I agree Loureen I can't do without rinse aid, I like my glasses shiny.

My dishwasher blew up yesterday, it has been a LOOONNNGGGG day of washing dishes :( We unpack the dishwasher completely when it finishes. Other than the washing machine, they are the best invention ever!

I love mine because I hate washing cutlery and plates and stuff. I still wash my pots and pans and knives by hand. I just don't trust the dishwasher with those things. But yeah...I wouldn't want to not have one again. I don't put away clean dishes until the afternoon, so the breakfast ones sit in the sink and the lunch dishes might come out of the dishwasher before that stuff is put away.

I ♥ my dish washer! For me, it's almost a requirement in any place I live. I can do without an ice maker and a garbage disposal but I've grown too spoiled over the years to live without a dish washer.

I load throughout the day, run it before bed and then unload in the morning. Repeat. It doesn't work this way EVERY day because some days we don't go through enough dishes to run it and some days it gets run twice (like if I cook a giant meal using every pot and pan in my kitchen). I don't know if "wash the dishes" includes putting them away. I do know that I am always the one to do both so I guess yeah, they go hand in hand lol I unload in the mornings while I wait for the coffee to brew...gotta do SOMEthing to keep myself awake until the glorious hot caffeinated beverage is ready lol

You know what I hate? Plastic stuff in the dish washer. I always run the dry cycle and everything dries....except for the plastics. Now, I've figured out over the years how to not wet all the dry stuff on the bottom....just unload the bottom first. But whyyyyy does the plastic always stay wet? I always save it to unload last and then stand there for 10 minutes hand drying it all.

Also, I never buy rinse aid (Jet Dry) because I think it's a gimmick that SC Johnson Wax Corporation came up with to steal an extra $7 a month from me.

I grew up with a dishwasher in almost every house we lived in (mostly on base-- I think there were one, maybe two houses that didn't, so my mom and dad bought one that had a cutting board on top- it was awesome). There were 4 kids, Mom and Dad (and eventually our Grandmother as well), so there were a lot of dishes to do.



We have one now, too. I love it! I grew up gently (sometimes not so gently depending on what was cooked) washing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher (like pots and pans, drinking glasses/cups- pots and pans so there wasn't any greasy residue left after the dishwasher ran and the cups/glasses to get fingerprint smudges off that the dishwasher can't do.) So we don't have a problem putting our cooking/baking ware in the dishwasher.



Right now, we do wash and unload, but some days we just grab whatever out of the dishwasher and lock it up, especially if it's one of those days where I'm in a lot of pain and hubby's exhausted from work :/

When I was a teenager, I remember asking why we couldn't get a dishwasher. I didn't realise they were so expensive back then. Anyway, her standard response was "I don't need one, I already have 5" (meaning her 5 kids, LOL).

Our dishwasher is a gift that came with the house we’re paying for! :) We put our dishes away once they are clean. I think that washing the dishes does include putting them away as well. I grew up hand washing dishes so I'm thankful for the dishwasher in my adult years.

A dishwasher is all I had ever known until last year when ours broke from the kids (namely Cooper) trying to climb on the door while it was open. One week without a dishwasher was enough to prove to me that I'll never be without one. :)

I didn't have a dishwasher until June...that's almost 24 years. The day my mom put one in was a VERY close second to the happiest day of my life...better than any orgasm!

Before we had it I just rinsed all the dishes during the day and then washed them all after dinner. I'm too lazy for washing up after every meal and stuff.
