I think it is obvious this person is not a mother and has commandeered this convo because IT trolls the internet looking for more places to copy and paste the same lame crap that IT has been doing for years. 2 - The dishes and cutlery NEED TO GET DONE TOO otherwise YOU WON'T HAVE A FUCKING PLATE TO PUT YOUR NON-EXISTENT POTATO ON.



3 - YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY TABLE. THOSE OTHER TABLES AND OTHER CUSTOMERS NEED TO BE ATTENDED TO AS WELL.



4 - you OBVIOUSLY do not have children cause otherwise you would REALIZE that EVERYTHING in life takes a lil bit of PATIENCE. Including going to the restaurant for a fucking DINNER that you're fucking PAYING FOR.



You are the ONLY 'thing' being ABSURD & RUDE, you're a self centered, self absorbed narcissistic bitch that should stay home and save yourself the possibility of catching an STD from some cranky server that's sick of your bullshit that decides to jizz in your milkshake. OK Springs, I really don't want to debate you but some of the things you expect just don't add up. I'm assuming that deep down, you think everyone should get this "perfect" service you talk about. So lets just say that the server never makes anyone wait an extra 30 seconds because their only focus is on waiting their set number of tables as promptly and accurately as possible. They don't waste time by things like rolling silverware or bussing tables. Those things can wait. Or can they? Things have to be kept up throughout the shift. No one wants to sit next to a dirty unbussed table. Had they focused all their sole attention on everyone in there before you, they may not have rolled silverware to give you? And I'm sure you wouldn't be happy about that. The point is that servers have to do the side jobs along with everything else because that's the only way for it to run smoothly. Just because a server may stop and quickly do something else on their way to getting your drink refill or you extra ketchup or whatever is not rude....bitching about it is. I would think a mother more than anyone could understand that.....

If there is a wait for a table, think about that the CURRENT CUSTOMERS WERE FIRST, so their TURN should be first just as they had to wait in ORDER in which they came in for a table. It’s ONLY FAIR!!

i'm sure that if you were the person having to wait for a table to be bussed you'd be bitching about that too!! these people are humans, and can only do so much. you are not the only person in the restaurant. how do you not understand that?

Your server should be getting those drinks, not worrying about dirty dishes. Especially if there is no wait for a table.



I have seen CARING servers not worry about dirty dishes first. They put CUSTOMERS as their NUMBER ONE PRIORITY and those get the good tips.



Do you like it when a McDonald’s cashier decides to continue to restock instead of taking your order? It’s RUDE!!



You can do that stuff a few minutes later.

No, your server puts it into the computer at most restaurants, not actually goes to the kitchen to give a written ticket in most cases.

NO, if we are waiting for drinks, they sure as hell shouldn’t be. Those that do that get a bad tip for being so INCONSIDERATE!! Even if there is a wait for a table, those people are AFTER us, so they should be thought of AFTER our turn.



The reason why you wait for your drinks 5 minutes sometimes if they don’t do that sort of thing is because they are doing things that are REASONABLE and FAIR such as bringing out food or drinks that were ordered BEFORE we ordered ours or they get called over. Dirty dishes can wait. CUSTOMERS COME FIRST!!



When I worked at the donut shop, I didn’t worry about dirty dishes at the booth if the customers want to sit at the counter, are you crazy? I left that dirty stuff there and served my customer, making them NUMBER ONE!! If I would have cleaned up, they would have bitched me out and I would have DESERVED THAT!! You don’t see that or what? You don’t see how it’s RUDE to worry about things you can do RIGHT AFTERWARDS since it’s not any customer that asking for anything, it’s just dishes sitting there, not tipping you?

As I said before, the server could have done it instead of bussing a table and getting napkins and cutlery. Let’s that that part out of the equation, unless the server was called over, she shouldn’t be bringing back customers their empty glasses and appetizer plates. She should be going to get those drinks. Now if the customers asked specifically “Can you take these?” Then, YES, she should, but ONLY if the customers asked as far as BEFORE getting those drinks.

If that other table has been waiting 5 minutes to get greeted already, she shouldn’t be cleaning that table and setting it up. Think when you are hungry and thirsty. Especially, if there’s no wait for a table, that’s SO DAMN RUDE and YOU KNOW IT!!

That’s a RUDE SERVER, you don’t see that? In your scenario, YES, that’s RUDE!! I would have gotten a HUGE TIP because I would have gotten those drinks in your scenario after putting the order into the computer since I wasn’t double or triple sat. I wouldn’t have made my customers wait 5-10 minutes for something they could have in under 5. Even a manager agreed with me the soft drinks should be out within 2-3 minutes of your order being taken. 10 minutes should be times when your server is double or triple sat, not times where you have the time to get them, but put bussing a table first. Are you kidding me you’d treat OBJECTS as number one instead of PEOPLE? I couldn’t FATHOM doing that, WHY could you?

The old people whining about the happy kid who is giggling and playing with the occasional shriek, the morons screaming "FUCK IT!" at their cellphones or saying "FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCKITY FUCK" while having a conversation with their buds, the screaming crying kid who is throwing shit, the happy kid who is climbing in, under, over, through everything while his oblivious guardians munch away while we wrestle to get our purses back or try to politely explain he'll have to ask his mama for dessert and he can't have ours, shit like that.

Dana, are you trying to tell me that listening to the guy at the next table, perhaps 2 feet or less from your head, dissect his previous night's conquest in graphic terms replete with swear words while you are trying to enjoy brunch with your family would not somewhat distract you from enjoying the occasion? That is the kind of thing I'm referring to. I'm not so uptight that some person in the room slurping their soup even attracts my notice, but there are some people whose behavior is so atrocious that it really does ruin your time. I tend to think of that sort of thing when I think about etiquette while dining, as opposed to nitpicking the servers.

I always find that other customers ruin dinner for me, more than waitresses.



I'm not so self absorbed as to believe that my service is the only service they're attending too. When waitresses take your order they take it to the window to put up, they take your drinks at the same time, then they clean up the bus tray, usually bring someone their food that is ready, go and get your drinks and then bring it to your table. It's called MULTI-TASKING. Their jobs aren't "deal with 1 table, and then the next table, and then the next table" in order. They have to MULTI-TASK in order to serve everyone, as well as clean up, keep things running and continuing through the shift. Sometimes it will take 10 minutes to bring your drink because... here's a time line for you;



Waitress takes your order, along with your drinks.

Waitress returns to window to put up your order.

Waitress tidies bus table and gets cutlery and napkins arranged to set up table.

Waitress brings another customer their food.

Waitress gets held up while bringing back that customers empty glasses and appy plates.

Waitress gets the drinks you initially ordered along with the cutlery and napkins she had arranged earlier.

Waitress delivers your drinks.

Waitress cleans a table and sets up another table.

Waitress takes another tables order.

REPEAT.



That is GENERALLY how I have seen waitresses keep up with all of their responsibilities while on shift.



Now, it's the picky ass ridiculously bitching customers that end up taking up 15 minutes of the waitresses time when she brings them their food that ends up leaving her behind getting your drinks.



There will always be rude waitresses and their will always be rude customers. I always find the rude customers to be more of a downer than the waitress that happened to forget a fucking potato.

At least I TRY my best, they don't is what I am saying. To admit "I don't add it up" is proving I didn't verify the prices I was charging you. The GM said that she had to ring it in differently, because he wanted them to get the side dish complimentary, so to me if you had to ring it up differently, something in your COMMON SENSE BRAIN should have known something would have been rung up wrong, like DUH. STUPID IS THAT STUPID DOES!!

If you don't try your best, I have ZERO SYMPATHY for you, F' YOUR MONEY JUST AS YOU TREATED MINE!!

I remember the people that affect my feelings. To see that servers want your money, but don't care about it, shows how they are.

They act like if they were at a restaurant, wouldn't they rather their server be a responsible caring server that noticed this BEFORE they got their check? I am serious here.

I am tired of the wrong prices. We have had it at lots of places and I remember each time even.

I can remember that better than short term memory that doesn't affect my feelings. I mean think about it, that's what triggers your memory most of all is if you had something that triggered your memory with a FEELING about it.

For example, most of the time, when a server introduces him or herself, I can't for the life of me remember what name they said, but I can remember something of 20 years ago or so that happened to me such as my mom almost hemmoraged and almost died when I was 2yrs old. I can remember I was watching literally the 2-headed monsters that were purple that usually spell a word on sesame street back in 1979(I was born in 1977). Things that trigger feelings, make you remember. I have feelings about this, because we go out so often, we have this type of issue pretty often I find. I would say since late 2000, we have had around 35 or so overcharges at least. Some were wrong prices, some wrongly rung up stuff, some extra items, one that was given less coin change than owed, and some wrongly rung up tables on our credit cards.

I am sick of the ones that act like they are OWED or ENTITLED instead of EARNING their money that they act like THEIR MONEY is HOLEY AND DOW as if that's the ONLY MONEY that counts, but F' the customer's money RIGHT? The customer's money is not important to them, yet, they want our money, right? Caring is a 2-way street, so if you don't care much about ours, we ain't going to care much about yours. Now, we have had some regular servers that have overcharged us, but you can tell it was certainly unintentional and they were VERY busy. I gave those servers some slack since they normally treated us with respect and GOOD SERVICE 99.9% of the time, so I forgave them more than if I were to have the same situation with a stranger. You may say it's unfair, but I don't see it like that, because I go by the other times, NUMEROUS, where they have been so WONDERFUL to us and I can't do wrong to them. Now, of course if they start to show they are abusing my niceness, I will not ask for them again and give them a bad tip for the last time I have them.

So my point is, there's a HUGE difference between a REAL mistake, or the ones like that the waitress admitted she didn't add it up or the waiter that we SAW with our OWN TWO EYES not verify WHICH PLATE OF FOOD he was DELIVERING TO WHICH TABLE as HE COULD HAVE VERY MUCH SO WITH HIS PAD OF PAPER, BUT WAS TOO LAZY AND RUSHING AS IF THIS WERE FAST FOOD OR SOMETHING.

He didn't even do it in the kitchen it sounds like to me.

If I'm ever concerned about my mental state and any obsession I've got with something totally petty, I'll just search out this thread and feel loads better!

We've discussed the apparently galling errors of waitstaff to the point of ridiculousness, but I'm wondering, what about the other customers? I actually often find that it is another customer in the restaurant most likely to ruin the dining experience as opposed to the serving staff or even the food. We went out for brunch this morning, the food & service were fantastic, but I was exceedingly relieved when the unbelievably obnoxious guy behind me left just as I was getting my food. His loud talking and swearing was ruining my appetite. What do you folks think?

Any DECENT, CARING, GO-GETTER, ENERGETIC, NON-LAZY person would have at the very last, CAUGHT his mistake WHILE delivering the food, but he was TOO LAZY ASS to COMPARE HIS WRITTEN ORDERS TO WHAT TABLE HAD WHAT!!



HOW THE HECK IS IT A "MISTAKE" IF YOU DON'T DON'T GO OVER YOUR WORK?



It's just like not proofreading a paper you wrote, but hand it in anyways, being LAZY about it. That's not a REAL MISTAKE, that's PURE LAZINESS AND BEING UNCARING about you grade or in this case about your tip.



Honestly, most of the time it's not a mistake.



I had a rude mean waitress tell me "I don't add it up" when I had a couple of wrong prices which was added into one. If you added crawfish, the price was $4.99, but you see any common sense person would have verified the MENU BEFORE giving our check. Our overcharged was a $1.50 on an item(an entrée we NEVER, EVER, ordered before). The thing is, she was stupid. Any SMART customer knows that the menu price is the only one that counts considering we don't order from a computer screen. So the servers of today act like they aren't customers ever. To tell me "I don't add it up" is such mean thing to say. You don't care about our money, we won't care much about yours. We left $4 on $85 and something cents.



You are going to be a bitch, right back at ya for being a non-caring, not nice, and LAZY ASS bitch.



You could have caught it BEFORE you handed us this overcharge instead of making US do ACTUALLY WORK VERIFYING ALL PRICES WHICH IS YOUR JOB, NOT OURS SINCE WE ARE PAYING YOU TO CHARGE US CORRECTLY, NOT US!!



I would like to add that the original price before the crawfish was $21.99, so if you ROUNDED each price 22 + 5 = 27, not 28.48. The price she charged wasn't $26.98 Common sense would tell you if you ESTIMATED without a calculator to the nearest dollar, that it woudn't add up to that much, like DUH, lack of CARING about customer's money and common sense, but yet they want YOUR MONEY at the end. If they want YOUR MONEY, they should care about YOUR MONEY, LIKE DUH!! She admitted it wasn't a REAL, TRUE mistake that she said "I DON'T ADD IT UP" meaning she didn't take the time to verify the prices. So that's the tip she got. She should have gotten nothing for her UNCARING , bitchy attitude.

Wow I am a little stunned. I would definitely be polite and nice, as long as the staff treat me with the same respect. I mean it -is- their job, but it doesn't mean that everyone should be nasty to them. Because would that mean that people can treat you the same at your work? I've only ever complained once to date/...when there was some sort of bug/grub on my food! They offered another meal free of charge but by that point I wasn't hungry not surprisingly!

When I was a waitress I used to have a customer who came in for bacon and eggs EVERY Sunday morning...she would eat her eggs last EVERY week, then complain that her eggs were cold.

Finally I brought her breakfast out with no eggs on it, when she complained that there were no eggs, I said I'll bring them out when you are done eating the rest of your food. Imagine my surprise when she complained to my boss that I was rude.
