My tattoo artist refuses to tattoo anyone on the face or hands unless they already have several other pieces as he is worried that people see celebs with them and want to copy without thinking of the consequences.

It wouldn't make me think differently of someone, & I wouldn't think they have self confidence issues, but I do think that VERY few people can pull off a facial tattoo. However, it's their bodies, so whatever floats their boat :)

Every facial tat that I have seen has been with stars...usually green and blue with black outline...I would prefer piercings. I just don't get the facial tats no matter how artistic and beautiful they are. I would not want to wear a mask of art everyday. I would not want to have my kids come home with ink on their faces..It would hurt my heart that they needed to alter their beautiful faces so dramatically.

i wouldn't get a facial tattoo. it doesn't look professional. any job i've had has had stipulations of no visible tatts, no facial piercings and one piercing in each ear and no jewelry lol. heaps of young people get tattoos of anything, like really lame ones that they just pick at the tattoo shop. i personally think they do it to be cool or to look intimidating or to fit in, who knows. i know i wouldn't want some of the ridiculous things i've seem tattooed on people forever.

I think that to each their own. yes there are people out there "hiding" behind their tats. However, there are so many more that either just like them, or they see the tats as a part of who they are personally. Same for body mods of any kind. I have a huge tat of 2 wolves on my back. I will NEVER tell my dad but my wolves are an expression of who I am and how I see myself. Do most people see it? No, not unless I am wearing a swimsuit. it is the only tat I have and yes I plan on getting more but it will be my kids names interwoven into my wolves design.

I'm not a fan of them. I just don't find facial tattoos attractive in the least. But, if someone wants to get them, go ahead. Just don't come whining when you get passed over on jobs. I'm sure there are people out there that are very successful despite facial tats, but there's probably many more being held back because of them.

I'm with Sharon on this. Facial tattoos are occupationally limiting, and people WILL judge you for it. If you're prepared to deal with those consequences and are over 18, go for it. But I'm not a fan, and I would be horrified if my daughter came home with a tatt on her face.

I really don't have an opinion on facial tattoos. I can honestly say, I don't think I have ever seen a person with one. To each their own.

Those tatts are really cool!!!

A friend of mine works in an elders home, she has sleeves and her dimples pierced florescent hair and eyebrows tattooed on :) She never had an issue getting a job.

I had visible tattoos and piercings when I was a kindergarten teacher the kids love them , no one ever treated me any different .

Ket Vonm D is HAWT , her face tats look beautiful and really compliment her face .

i hate face tattoos too. i hate trying to see what the person looks like behind their tattoos. it's very unnerving for me. i don't understand why anybody would want to cover their face like that.

I want to get a small White design near my temples... Something my hair can cover, but if I pull it back you can see it just slightly, since white isn't very bold.

And for anyone with facial tattoos, good on ya. It takes balls and confidence to get some big bold designs.

All I think when I see facial and neck tattoos is "That had to hurt..." but other than that it doesn't bother me.

...After thinking about this, I have to add that I *DO* have a problem with facial and neck tattoos that display racist, hateful, or gang symbols. On the one hand, I'm thankful to know what kind of person they are just by looking at them, but on the other hand what kind of person would tattoo a swastika on their forehead?

I think it is a bad idea to get facial tattoos if you might want to work at a place that doesn't allow them. To get facial tattoos is to burn bridges.

But if you have a wonderful job that you are passionate about, that allows facial tattoos and you plan to stay in that line of work forever, facial tattoos won't limit you in the same way.

I suppose I too should mention that my 'Brother' is a tattoo artist (a damn good one, might I add), and for a while was also a 'roadie' / bodyguard for a rock 'star'.....
So, I can definitely relate to what Sharon is saying.
For myself, when I do work, I'm a bartender....so, not too many hassles about body art from that career.

My brother I mentioned in my earlier post who has a facial tattoo, various facial piercings and massively stretched ears is a very senior psychiatric nurse. He acknowledges that he may have had a harder time proving himself because of his appearance, but it has never hampered him professionally, and his attitude is that people who would judge him negatively because he has a picture on his face aren't worth the hassle anyway!

I don't think it's a self-confidence thing. In many cases, it's a cultural thing, such as the moko tattoos of people of Maori descent.

If it's not cultural, then yeah, unfortunately they are probably limiting themselves in their career choices. But my guess is that someone who would get a major facial tattoo is probably not interested in working in a conservative field anyway.

I have honestly seen SOOO Many people with sleeves like we have a fews cops (younger of course) who are COVERED in tattoos and ive seen some nurses with a lot also i think its beginning to be more popular and accepted!

I agree with Sharon on this one. That is also the #1 reason I chose the placement for my tattoos that I did (back and lower stomach and next one is going on my shoulder blade). They can't be seen in professional attire. :)

All I can think is "I hope they are independently wealthy because careers are hard to come by with a facial/neck tattoo."

A behind the scenes job at burger king - sure.

Roadie for a rock band - sure.

Tattoo artist (so many are not as gifted as they think they are) - sure

medical marijuana seller - sure

Becoming management at burgerking - not likely

Becoming a supervisor at a phone operations center - not likely

I love tattoos, so many are so beautiful and have such deep personal meanings

Most are just pretty art. art that will never come off. art that screams your beliefs at everyone who sees them and makes you non hireable.

My boss has LOTS of tats. Most can't be seen. She has a couple on her wrists and forearms though that means when its 115F (46C) she has to wear long sleeved shirts when we are expecting visits from the big wigs. The rest of the time she covers them up with cuff style bracelets and watches.

She is at work 60 hours a week in a professional capacity.
168 hours in a week - 60work = 108hours - 56sleep = 52 waking hours - then you figure in housekeeping hours, hours spent in the shower, I figure she has 25 hours to herself to be herself...

In those 25 hours who does she get to show her tats to that will admire or understand the meaning behind them? Figure half those hours will be with her husband.

She's spent hundreds on her tats, she's older, been a sun worshipper, I couldn't even tell you what they are now, except that they are multicolored and she gets frustrated by them.

Now those are on her WRISTS. If they were facial tats - she'd NEVER have gotten this position, never have been in this earning capacity...

Be prepared to OWN this huge decision to put a tat on your face (like the dumbass who had a bunch of stars tatted on) taking them off.. painful, expensive, long process, may leave scarring.

My brother has lots of body mods including lots of piercings, scarification, dermal anchors and tatoos, one of which is on his chin and is very noticeable. I have to say, it really suits him and ties in nicely with his facial piercings.

As for it suggesting low self confidence, in his case it couldn't be further from the truth. He is the most centred, chilled out guy I know. Not cocky, but confident and totally at peace with who he is.

I wouldn't have one myself, but I don't really see it as any different from any other visible body mod.

My best friend (ok, pretty much Brother, for all intents and purposes) has half of his face tattooed......honestly, I hardly notice it.
It just matches his personality.
I went with him the first time he got work done on his face....and have barely noticed as it 'grows' larger....usually takes me a couple of months to figure out that he's added more if I don't see him regularly.
As far as a female doing the same.....it wouldn't bother me at all. Not my face, not my business.
