So a little Mother's Day, tying into the getting to know you threads. What activites, games, recreation etc. are you still into that are not stereotypical Mommy interests and could be preceived as geeky, nerdy or childish?

(inspired by another thread)

I'll be 29 in June and I still like Pokémon. Been playing since I was 14.

=^;^= *meowth*

My 25 year old sister is an RN at a metropolitan sick children's hospital and also shares my love of pokémon!

When my kids are old enough to play you better believe I'll be buying them a DS and we'll be trading off pokémon as a family. o_O

I am also an online RP gamer. Game of choice---Diablo! Waitng for Diablo 2.... for like ever! My hubby and I play together. Been a Diablo geek for 8 years now. Never got into World of Warcraft.... not paying for a subscription. :P They can bite me.

I like dead things. I always have , when I was younger I would bring home road kill and dead birds, but my mom was cool with it, cause she used to do the same things as a kid. Now as an adult and as a homeschooler it's more fun, cause now when I find a dead bird I put it in the freezer until I found two or three more and then we devise various experiments to determine the fastest/slowest/messiest etc. way that a bird can decompose and study the ongoing process, noting what kinds of bugs come, what types of elements are at work, rain, sun etc. it's fun!!

Albeit stinky fun.

I also love snakes, not sure if it falls into your categories, but I don't know any snake loving moms. I'm the one at the park who will catch it for all the kids to check out, while all the other moms squeal or make disgusted "eww..: sounds while shaking like they've been slimed or something.

Those are only two of my many oddities. :)

edited to add:

when I brought dead things home as a kid, they stayed outside and I would normally just watch daily as they decomposed or I would bury them and dig them up later, or sometimes if they were fresh I would dissect them to see if I could determine what killed them if it wasn't obvious trauma.

weird I know.

It was specifically a Marine based high school , most of those were part of PE but we also had Marine studies which was awesome ...at the time we were only one of two high schools that were marine based ( like the technology based high schools )

[deleted account]

WTF?! What high school was that?! I would have loved PE class if those were the options.

What did I say? Separated at birth and a decade. ;-) So when you moving to mango country?

P.S. Tell Jamie that they aren't bite sized if you get a baby python! :-D

Scuba diving is awesome , It was a class in highschool ...so was surfing , fishing , kyaking and getting a deckhands certificate ...I loved my highschool !

[deleted account]

Stephanie, that looks like a cool shore dive! Diving is one thing I miss quite a bit. From the ages of 30-34 I think I spent more time underwater than above it. So many places I'd still like to dive... Red Sea, Ningaloo Reef, Galapagos, etc. In a perfect world, my cage dive would be of Cape Town because there is a dive company there that gives a refund if they don't get you in the cage on a week long trip, whereas most companies just say it's a gamble. Also, there are far more white pointers off the Sth African coast than there are in South Australia (where the cage diving companies are located here). Another bucket list dive is Antarctica! You can only do 20 mins MAX, but I've heard it's phenomenal. Plus, I'm a huge penguin nut.

Here's a link to my favourite wreck dive: http://www.truk-lagoon-dive.com/Wrecks/S...
I love wreck penetration dives and the wrecks on Truk were amasing, and the water was so warm many of the dives could be done in just swimmers!

Now I want you to come to Australia so I'd have a dive buddy!

It's sorta cool in a way.... that the snakes in my region can't kill ya! Although, a lot of the venemous snakes are the really fascinating ones. I only get to see them on animal planet or the zoo. ;) My favs are green tree snakes. There's a variety in my region but they're so hard to spot, I've never seen one.

We vacationed on a vineyard island in the middle of one of the great lakes. It was FULL of snakes. We had a couple of 5-6 footers (which is huge in my region) camped out in the rocks in front of our cottage. You'd walk along the beach and 100s would just scoot into the water on the rocky beach our cottage was on.

My hubby is terrified of snakes but even he thought it was cool to watch the big daddy-sized snakes sunbathe just below our balcony.

Scuba diving is awesome and a cage dive is on my bucket list, too! That would be the most amazing thing ever...ever ever ever. I went on a dive to the 'Boiler', a big old ship wreck off the coast of Cape Hatteras. The boiler of the ship still sticks up out of the water. It was a pretty cool site to see.

Scuba diving I might do.....it's the invisible-ness that freaks me out. If I could see them well I would be fascinated. But the thought of a shark sneaking up under me and biting my leg! Freaky!!! Although I heard more people get killed by cows each year then sharks......

[deleted account]

I'm a scuba diver, so I mean being eye to eye, so to speak, with sharks. One thing on my bucket list is to cage dive with great whites.

Oh yeah, playing in the rain is great fun!

*shudder* I don't swim in the ocean........ Too scary! Lol but I'm in Wisconsin so it would have to be a vacation for me to be near the oceans anyways. Lake Michigan, now that I'll do but not too far in. I'm seriously scared of what's under water that I can't see!

Another childish thing I love is running in the rain!

[deleted account]

I love sharks, too! : p I don't ever want to run into one while in the water but they're fascinating. I love Discovery channel's 'shark week'. I thought I was being attacked by a shark once and nearly had a cardiac arrest over it...seriously paralyzing fear...it was raining and we, the smart teenagers that we were, went surfing and I suddenly saw my friends on the beach jumping up and down, waving their hands but I couldn't make out what they were saying. I started paddling in when there was a huge thud against my arm and a sharp pain. I was dead, I knew it. I pulled my arm out and saw blood, tried to balance all limbs on my board and then realized I was surrounded by huge jellyfish. Huge ones everywhere. THAT'S what got me. If you've never been stung, let me tell ya, it hurts BAD.

You really, really lucked out on not getting bit by that snake! Oh Dear Lord!!!

[deleted account]

Steph, that's a bit like my trying to catch a king brown. Super venomous snake and it's one of a few snakes that will actually chase people. An adult can be big enough to stand 5 ft high and "run" after you. Not a good one to piss off, so I'm really quite lucky. I'm still dumb enough to love snakes though... I love sharks too, so maybe I'm just nuts.

[deleted account]

We're also getting kids hooked on games now too. Probably a bad thing come the teen years. We introduced the boys to Burnout 3 a couple weekends ago. Now Seth asks to play "the crashing game" and my 2 yr old goes around saying "crash!" any time something falls, which is cute as at this stage.

[deleted account]

Ahhh!!! Snakes trip me out! I almost stepped on a rattle snake in Utah...it's a flippin miracle it didn't strike. Maybe it was sleeping? And, my poor baby sister-in-law died from a coral snake bite. I also watch too much 'Venom ER' and freak myself out unnecessarily lol.

[deleted account]

OMG It's so nice to see there are so many snake loving mums out there! I'm considered the freak amongst my friends because I want one! Dale discouraged me from catching snakes ever since the one day he saw me going for one and screamed at me that I was stalking a king brown! So NOT a good one to catch and I was lucky he didn't start chasing me. So, since I'm crap at identification we're going to get me a license and buy a carpet python.

I'm a total game freak too! One of the things that hooked my husband's attention when we were dating was that I had an xbox that was chipped and had a hard drive with about a hundred games loaded. He just had an xbox. I bought the family a Wii the Christmas before last and now we have a playstation 3 too. I LOVE Fable (xbox), Asassin's Creed (ps3) and Big Game Hunting (Wii).

LOVE colouring. Love it. I still find blowing bubbles really satisfying and I like to roll down grassy hills. Not doing that this year on account of the little turkey, but next spring I will be getting my roll on.

Something else funny, when I was about 3 years old (before the shit hit the fan in my childhood) my grandparents brought my sister a ballerina barbie from Mexico and brought me a sombrero. A sombrero, thanks. I was pissed lol. I bit the feet off her barbie for it. :D

Then, one day I was cleaning the playroom and kept finding barbies with no feet. Turns out my daughter has an affinity for chewing barbie feet, too. It must be hereditary!

Poor barbies, Ava eats the feet and Jadyn rips their heads off. : )

[deleted account]

Too funny! I swear you sound just like me! Those removable head Barbies are funny. My 3 year old takes the heads off them all anyway so most of them are "Headless Horseman" barbies at Halloween lol. Or decap barbie. : p

I had my mom and hubby peeing themselves over my barbie impression on Xmas. My mom had bought my SD these barbies where you can remove their heads??? My son was 2 and my SD was 3 and they each had their own barbie and I was stuck with a head. So I named mine amputee barbie and was pushing her around on my son's toy car. I had both my kids faking these valley girl voices for their barbies, even my son. lol

[deleted account]

That deserves like 20 'funny' clicks!!! :D

My daughter has this Barbie microphone that plays a kiddied down version of the old "I'm a Barbie Girl" song by Aqua. I REALLY struggle not to sing the real words when we're playing with it!
"I'm a blond bimbo girl, in the fantasy world
Dress me up, make it tight, I'm your dolly
You're my doll, rock'n'roll, feel the glamour in pink,
kiss me here, touch me there, hanky panky...
You can touch, you can play, if you say: "I'm always yours".
Make me walk, make me talk, do whatever you please
I can act like a star, I can beg on my knees
Come jump in, bimbo friend, let us do it again,
hit the town, fool around, let's go party
You can touch, you can play, if you say: "I'm always yours"
You can touch, you can play, if you say: "I'm always yours"

Come on Barbie, let's go party!
(Ah-ah-ah-yeah)" :D

I never cared much for Barbie. I was into My Little Pony. When I play Barbie's with my SD I give them a really ditzy, shopping obsessed personality: "Lets go shopping! I so need to find a purse to accessorize with my new car. It's 2G2BT that corvettes come in Pink! Can you believe what Melanie was wearing last night??? OMG it was totally off the hook. Are you going to Ken's party tonight? TTYL!!!!"

My husband LOVES Diablo and has been waiting with bated breath for Diablo 2, have you seen the sneak peeks on Blizzard's official site?
Anyway, I love the x Box 360! my mother's day gift was the new Lego Star Wars 3 game! I fell in love with Portal 2! beat it in only a 4 days (would have been much sooner but I had to share with my husband and brother)! I also play, Mass Effect 1&2 excited about 3, Call of duty: modern war fare (hated black ops, but love call of duty: modern warfare 2), Gears of War 1&2, Oblivion.
I can't wait to have a little girl so I can sit down and play doll house with her! I loved playing doll house and barbies.

Barbies. I adored Barbie and all her loot when I was growing up. My parents made me a huge, fabulous Barbie house when I was 6, complete with handmade furniture, clothes, accessories, etc. My mom found the box of goodies in her attic a month ago and my girls and I can't WAIT to go visit her to pick it up, bring it home and PLAY! :)

@Stephanie... it was a mock-rattler. Apparently, the only venomous rattler in my area is the Missasauga rattler but they have been all but erraticated except for in one park where they are trying to reintroduce the species.

@Laura... ick. Centipeids are probably one of the few bugs that do creep me out! All those crazy legs. Ack!

@Cathy.... 'should be'... they've been pushing the release date for diablo 3 back for the last 4-5 years. I still love playing diablo 2 but I haven't played since my daughter was born. Too addicting... even more than COM. lol

Play doh!!!, forgot that :) I too catch spiders and release them outside, I'm not into killing if possible. Although a centipede did get smushed a few days back but it was so darn fast it was my only option! Flies too I catch in a cup :)

Spider solitaire! Almost forgot that one, idk if it's so childish or not, but I could play it on my computer for hours if left alone long enough!

[deleted account]

Jennifer- A non-venemous rattler? I have never heard of that!

I am an air hockey geek and have a huge pro table. My 4 year old is getting pretty good at it, too.

I bounce in my kid's bouncy house every chance I get...when it's inflated. It's good cardio. Same with the trampoline. Endless fun!

I have a huge collection of Barbies. I mean hundreds. 1st edition all the way through 2011. I've made alot more money in Barbie dealings than I have in the stock market so I stay where the money is a sure thing. : )

Oh yeah. I love bugs and snakes. I'm not so keen on catching snakes any more since I got bit by a fox snake when I was a kid. At least not with my hands. ;)

@Loureen A python??? holy crap girl, you are fearless! I did take on a rattler on my farm to protect my animals but I used two long sticks and a bucket. ;) Later I found out the species was non-venomous but he was a mean sucker and wanted to take a bite out of me. :O

My hubby is afraid of putting worms on hooks when we're fishing. When we were first dating he made me do it. lol He's also afraid of spiders! I love spiders, I think their neato. He makes me catch 'em and put them outside. Big brave son of a scout leader. *eye roll*

My kids love bug hunting! My SD (almost 4) says "Awwwww he's so cute!!!!" about potato bugs.

I've also been a total bird watching geek and rock collecting nerd since I was a kid.

What? I try not to let people know my childish ways! Oh well, here goes:
-I love "German" board games!
-I make snowmen and snow angels and play fox and goose.
-I watch for any opportunity to participate in games of tag, blindman's bluff, kick the can, etc.
-I think animals are really great, and I catch spiders and carefully take them outside (or ignore them)
- I have to bite my tongue when I have a really cool bruise so that I don't show it off to people.
Sometimes I think my inner age is 7. I'm constantly trying to remember to act like a grown-up!

I also play a shameful amount of Civ IV. Master of Orion is also a good time. And I agree with you about WOW -- I'm not paying for a subscription, and I can't be arsed to actually schedule my real life around raids. Fuck that.
