Happy Family Day ^_^
We had a good day; took the kids out for pizza with my hubby, my dad and my sister and her boy friend.
My sis suggested going to the free swimming at the local pool. I vetoed that fucking fast because, omg, I will never again go to a free swim that caters to children. I generally like kids, but damn, I just want to slap half of them. Or their parents LOL

It's not a stat holiday? Brian gets paid for the day and he works in construction - not at a bank or for the gov't. We actually didn't do any family activities because we had my Dad watch the kids and we went to an NHL Alumni game. The game was actually scheduled for yesterday but had to be moved to another location today because of weather (it was originally supposed to be an outdoor game but was moved to an indoor arena).

We technically don't get Family Day here in Nova Scotia, but my company's head office is in Winnipeg. And that's where the overwhelming majority of our employees are. So instead of having 90% of the employees off, and 10% having to work, they decided to just give all staff Family Day off.

It's awesome, actually, because I brought Sam to the mall in Truro (hi, Julianne!) to walk around and let him ride the kiddie rides, and it was super-quiet in there. It's great having the day off when nobody else does, sometimes.

Happy family day! We didn't do to much just had my mom over for a visit and my hunni is going to work to rake in the time and a half for it so :) I like this holiday its a good stay home chilll out kind fo holiday thought I'm sure it's irritating everyone that nothing is open. And everyone thought I was silly to get the groceries done yesterday bah!

We went grocery shopping as a family. Woohoo! :) We were going to go out to the Tyrell Museum, but the kids both have bad colds. Boo. Happy Family Day to you all!

What a nice holiday! Regardless of whether there is a federally mandated holiday for it, it's a nice idea to make your own family day!

I'm typing this at work in BC. We don't get one. I doubt we will. It's too much fun for them to make us go to work when not a single jurisdiction around us is working. Most of my work is done with Albertans and Ontarions and you can tell how busy I am given that I'm on COM! Not to mention our computers were down all morning and didn't get fixed until an hour ago because our IT department in Ontario was undermanned due to the stat. Do I sound bitter? :-)

You're right Laura, it's not a stat, I remember now, when I was working at a call center, we had to take the day off because we couldn't dial people on family day, BUT we didn't get paid for it.
So, yes nice to have but not everyone likes it, especially if they have to work and don't want to, or they want to work and can't but don't get paid in lieu.

No. :( My husband is working today and I'm a SAHM so everyday is family day for me :)

and I'm sure not planning on going out with a double stroller after the snowstorm we had last night!

Nearly 60% of Canadians observe a statutory holiday on the third Monday of February. The holiday is called Family Day in three provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario), Louis Riel Day in Manitoba, and Islander Day in Prince Edward Island. There is no federally-established Family Day.

Family Day is unrelated to National Family Week, a campaign put on each October by the Canadian Association of Family Resource Programs, a non-profit organization. It is not a statutory holiday, but is generally recognized and celebrated by community organizations across the country.

This holiday was first observed in Alberta in 1990, followed by Saskatchewan in 2007 and Ontario in 2008.

Happy Family Day to you to! We are actually staying in out of the cold today, making pita pizzas and peanut butter and banana sandwichs! There are tons of Family Day events going on it Calgary though, alot of the city pools and skating rinks are free, there is a free winter festival at Fort Calgary...even the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller is free today! ( it's an awsome Dinosaur museum) Yay family day! :)

What a really nice idea for a bank holiday. Sadly in England we do not have such a day. But this year we all get a day off to watch the Royal Wedding oh joy!
