When I was pregnant, I was determined I was going to go natural the whole way with no pain medication. Found out about the 81/2 months along that I was going to have to have a c-section. I was actually really upset cause I had my heart set on natural birth. For me, I'm actually envy the mothers that were able to go the natural route. I am thankful that I did the C-section in the end, cause my dear child was breached, cord wrapped around the neck three times and the leg twice. (Needless to say, my child wasn't a really good problem solver :P )

Kayle--- i had a very similar experience. I can relate. Sucks!!! i wish i could have had a vaginal birth too----- especially since all stories everyone tells you before birth how you will be fine ... get the epidural blah blah blah, then baby throws a wrench in it and the whole scenario changes. I was so emotional and sad and felt like i failed after my c-section too but now when i look in my beautiful babies eyes and watch him thrive i know it was for the best and dont care so much how it happened.

Just so you know Kayle, my father made me feel a bit better after my experience. He was a medic in Vietnam and he used to have to assist and care for those who got spinals done. He said, that these were men who were 19/20, it top physical shape and hardened by combat. He let me know that most of them were knocked flat on their asses for three weeks...four weeks until they sent them off to combat. You did a terrific job considering.
Actually, I kind of feel better knowing I'm not the only one who STILL has side effects after three months. I hate that it happens period but still nice to know you're not alone.

I never got headaches before the csection. Now almost a year later I still get them. If I ever have to have a csection again I want to be put under. I will flip out if someone goes near my spine again. I would rather miss that one kiss on my sons head than the whole 2 weeks after he was born.

to be honest...I think that too many women place too great a value on HOW their children come into the world.
Yeah...it sucks to not have the birth you wanted...it also sucks to break your leg...shit happens.
In the end, you got a brand new human being to enjoy and love...what MORE could you possibly want?

Kayle, having had to endure a botched spinal tap (just three months ago-not during birth), I feel your pain. I'm still not normal from it, my vision still gets a bit fuzzy from time to time and I still get headaches if I don't get rest. Honestly, I can't imagine the added trauma of having to care for your new baby along with it. I had to go back to therapy myself to just talk about it because I kept thinking about the spinal headaches and the whole experience of having someone dig in your spine without being under. It is a lot to get over. I'm sorry that had to happen during your c-section.

I have envy and am jealous of the women able to give birth vaginally and naturally. I had to have a c-section. My blood pressure was way to high they had to get baby out. They tried inducing but I couldn't have cervidil(sp) because they don't recomend women with bad athsma to use it. And the pitocin alone was not working. So c-section was the only option.
I am more emotionally scarred from the csection than I think I would be if I had a natural birth like planned.
I got to give my son one kiss on the head before then wisked him away and didn't see him again until about an hour later. Then the hole where they did the spinal block or whatever it was called didn't heal properly causing a spinal fluid leak. Which caused the worst headache I've ever had. I couldn't get out of bed or sit up. If I did I was bawling. They tried everything to get it to close. Drawing blood and injecting it back into my spine, which while the used local anesthesia, the pressure alone killed. When that didn't work they started a caffine drip because that is supposed to help with the healing. That didn't work either. I had this headache for 2 weeks. For 2 weeks the only thing I could do for my son was breastfeed and that was only when I was laying down. I'm very lucky I had my fiance and family there to help me. I felt like a failure that I couldn't take care of something that was mine. That is emotional scaring.

@Jaime-Leigh Burns if some women dont want to experience natural child birth or ones with and epidural then dont have kids, part of having children is delivering them why would ANYONE want to have major surgery to avoid the pain of childbirth that is just absurd! Like someone posted it helps get all that crap out of there lungs naturally the nurse may have to suck a little out but not much! And yes that my experience but i think doctors just want the extra money and what about back in teh day when women HAD to have birth natural women kept having babies i guess it wasn't the end of the world that they didn't have the baby cut out of them! I just think its an un necessary surgery to put yourself through!

Like one of the women on that thread said (can't remember who), I took the "I am woman" approach, had my baby au natural, grabbed my Green Mother Goddess trophy and went home lol Good grief.....jealous, that's hilarious! I don't think I personally would ever ELECT to have a c-section but I kinda look at it like abortion. Not for me but I can't tell someone else what to do with their body. Besides, like it's been said ad nauseum.....the end result is a beautiful baby and that's all that truly matters. I just can't comprehend how anyone who had a c-section would really think anyone who didn't would be jealous. Sounds pretty immature to me.

I felt this woman was very ignorant in her statement. Despite the fact that some women do have a positive experience with c-sections, birth and labour is not just about you. Vaginal birth has a great many health benefits to the baby. Now, I am not indicating that mothers who have had an emergency section are lacking or did something wrong. I am saying that electing to go through a c-section because you are afraid of natural birth, or for your convenience (ie, wanting the baby to come when you want it to come), or for cosmetic reasons ("loose down there") is absolutely the most absurd thing I have ever heard in my life and quite self-centred. Then, to assume that mothers who did it naturally are jealous, or not "modern mums" (her second post on the topic)... eat it, girlie.
I have two friends who had an absolutely TERRIBLE experience with their natural births, epidurals and all. Neither one EVER wants to be put under the knife to make their lives easier. I had a great experience with my natural birth. This time around, my baby will be cutting it close to my little sister's wedding, and I'm Maid of Honour. I will never opt for a c-section. Besides, what if your due dates were off and you cut the baby out too soon. There is research also stating that babies who did not set labour on their own are more likely to have lung troubles. I wouldn't want to be in that position, so I choose to avoid it.

wow. i read a lot of the posts, up to that one chick who supposedly felt the same way as the OP. she sounded like a complete fricking idiot. as my hubby said, they have nothing to compare it to if they haven't had both. but seriously, how can you say a c-section is NOT major abdominal surgery? it's certainly major surgery! and as with ANY form of surgery, there are huge complications! it's just ignorant to think otherwise.
personally, i would never go c-section unless my life was completely threatened. there are some women who have to or should have gone c-section, like my mom, who was in active labor for 36 hours with me while being pre-eclamptic and very sick. i ended up breaking her pelvis on the way out and her heart stopped for two minutes on the table. she had me vaginally, but because of all the scar tissue she was forced to have my brother via c-section 6 years later, and even then, it was very hard for her. her body wasn't built to have kids.
but mine is, so i'll be taking full advantage of my womanly figure by having as close to a natural birth as i can manage. c-sections should be emergency only. they aren't good for the mom and they're not good in the long haul for the baby.

I couldn't give two shits about her c-section. I think she's nuts, and her OP made it clear she is uneducated on the realities of the surgery, but whatever. I don't take offence to someone choosing it, although I do hope they are properly informed (which they often aren'tt). But her assertion was just plain wrong. It's like saying all hospital birthers are jealous of homebirthers (which happens to be true in my case lol but you get the point). It's just a totally pointless and incorrect statement.

I don't care how anyone delivers. I wouldn't choose a c-section, and personally my opinion is they are performed far too often and at times, unnecesarily, and I don't agree with that, but hey, not my problem. Emma's right, in the thread we are discussing it was her assumptions which were plain ignorant. I couldn't give a crap about her c-section.

If you dont want to give birth vaginally then dont have kids i mean if you HAVE to have a c section thats one thing but saying OH i cant handle the pain cut it out of me i think its wrong because you dont get the one on one with your child right after there born usually with c sections 2 the pain is MUCH worse with a c section for a longer amount of time 3 when you get an epidural or spinal it drugs you and the baby i hated being drugged so i know my kids must not have liked it much and not being able to get up and go after giving birth SUCKS especially if you have other kids to take care of and not to mention c sections cost way more than natural vaginal births! ! Just my opinion tho

I have two friends that would elect to have caesarians again if they have more children. They both opted for the procedure the first time around and would choose that route again. Some women just don't want to give birth vaginally.

I find it odd that she assumes everyone who gave birth vaginally has a loose vagina. I really don't think mine is any looser, even my fiance says it's exactly the same. I think that's a bit of a myth. I mean, yeah, maybe if I had 8 kids who were all 11 pounds or something.
I had a shit load of tearing on my labia because of some gyno issues. In speaking with my doc, after all the trauma of having to pee over the cuts, after all my stitches popped for 6 weeks, we said we might discuss the possibility of a c-section should I have another child. I can tell you though, it won't be to avoid a loose vagina or out of convenience.
Besides, I could barely read the OP's post. The doc must have took out her spelling and grammar functions for free when the c-section happened.

Isn't one of the entire points of medicine to defy nature? It's not natural to have epidurals, birth control pills, injectable insulin, chemotherapy, so on... It's natural to die when you acquire a major illness. Hell, it's natural to die in childbirth.

if you dont want to give birth, use a condom, adopt a baby.
I am of the opinion if you get pregnant you have signed yourself up for everything it involves include the birthing experience as nature intended and not elect to have unnecessary major surgery and all the risks and complications that involves.
I also feel bad for these women. imagine planning an elective c-section the entire duration of your pregnancy. you dont attend any birthing classes, research or read up on what to expect / how to recognise labour/ what to do and end up going into labour before their scheduled surgery. imagine the sheer panic of the mother and stress that imposes on a baby !
i was armed with information during my pregnancy and prepared myself for labour. hell i watched as many all natural and drug free labour videos as i could find on google and prepared myself to the tits.
and you know what, labor TERRIFIED me, but i did it anyways because that his how babies are intended to be born into this world and it really wasnt so bad
i mean okay you go vaginal once and have a truly horrific experience , i get wanting a section for the next. but not even trying labour and delivery your first go around..... ....
well im gonna leave it at dot dot dot

i question it a little, i won't lie, but i don't think it's the end of the world i guess. unless of course it's early, but i don't know why a doctor would do that unless it was an emergency. and by early i mean earlier than 39 weeks.
some people had horrific vaginal births, someone may just not want to experience labor. IDK, and i don't care what other people do to much. i'd rather a baby be induced if they wanted it to come on a certain day, but meh, it just doesn't ruffle my feathers to much if it's over 39 weeks.

Why would you WANT to have a c-section for non-medical reasons? I've HAD a c-section. It was horrid. Not only could I feel them cutting me, my son also stopped breathing as a result of aspirating the fluids. The whole point of squeezing a kid out of your vajayjay is that it also helps to rid the child of excess fluid. Not to mention the pain that you feel afterwards. Oh... and the constipation from the pain meds you take for the pain.
I think it's ridiculous. My second child was born vaginally and the experience was so much more magical and personal. I couldn't imagine not having that chance.
