i don't really have anything for the first part, but i know someone who doesn't discipline her child AT ALL. their motto is...bribe her with candy to do what we want her to do. because really, "isn't a little candy better than screaming and hitting?" yes she actually said that to me and my mouth was all O . i didn't realize that there were only those two extremes in the parenting world. i must be really screwed up, because i don't scream at or hit my kid and i also don't bribe him with candy EVER and he's pretty awesome. yeah, let's just say that this particular person really gets on my nerves. i get a good laugh when her kid acts like a tyrant ALL the time though. she can't even put her kid for a time out, that's how much of a wimp this woman is.

I always make only one dinner, there are no options. Breakfast and lunch are easier so if one wants toast and another wants waffles, i'm okay with that. Same thing with lunch. I will make two different kinds of sandwiches if they don't agree.

I personally consider anything other than the main dish to be "another meal". With my daughter this usually ends up being toast, untextured yogurt, sliced fruit and muenster cheese.

Is a sandwich instead of the meal considered separate meals? Because I do that a bit but I won't ever make one of my kids chicken while we eat lamb chops or anything like that when thye're old enough to be picky.

1. I will never take my son to MacDonald's (that seems to be a popular one) and like everyone else - that went out the window. I will never make more than one meal. Yeah right - I didn't count on a lazy chewer with textures issues who will only eat sandwiches when he's even remotely tired.

2. Parents who say their kids will never watch TV or eat junk food.

I always said I would never make more than one meal and if my kids didn't like what I made then they would have to go to bed hungry (because if they were truly hungry and not just being picky they would eat it)....That plan went out the window REAL fast. I make at least 2-3 different options at each meal and am happy if my oldest eats pretty much anything at this point (she's autistic and is ridiculously limited in what she will eat)

I will NEVER let my kids have cake and ice cream for lunch. LMAO I don't do it, I swear. However, I did it ONCE and about lost it. Apparently I was stressed. The girls reminded me I said they could have some and I forgot I hadn't fed them lunch. They ended up with cake and ice cream before I realized what I had done. My oldest two triggered the realization with the shocked looks but they refused to tell me what they were shocked about. I ran through the day in my head and realized my mistake. LOL

I have heard parents say. "I will never discipline my children. They are people and should be talked to like everyone else." OMG!!!! Really!! These people drive me up the freaking wall in 2 seconds flat! They are the ones that just stare blindly while others discipline their children or even get mad because you have told their child to stop biting/hitting/kicking/etc. These are truly clueless parents that ohhhh......they just get my goat. I hate the whole;
"You know you really shouldn't do that Jacob." or "Let's try not to do that again." is what their "discipline" is all about. grrrr......

The cloth diaper thing I swore I would do and I did for a whole year and it was great. The thing is that you just never know what can happen and it turned out my kid scoots. Cloth diapers + scooters just doesn't work. At least not for mine. She kept falling backwards on her head. This went on for a month before I went on holiday and used disposables and saw she wasn't falling anymore.

So I figure it's probably best not to swear against anything because you never know what life might hand you. There are situations you can't always anticipate.

Heather- I know how you feel!

I'm going through a TV as a baby sitter a lot these days.. It's on ALL day.. because for the most part just getting off the couch to refill sippy cups/but the baby down for her nap and making meals almost doesn't happen! The Tv is my friend right now, though I find it disturbing my 27 month old pronounces "movie" a heck of a lot like "mommy" but that's not because she's calling the TV mommy.. I hope..

I said I wouldn't uyse the TV/dvds as much as I do, I wouldn't give them pacifiers (ya right - that one took 6 days to fade), I never pretended to want cloth diapers at least, but I sure made some crazy stupid statements about snacking and definately overestimated the time i'd have to get to fitness classes afte the girls were born, now going on #3, I have no dillusions of grandeur on that one.

I just sit back and laugh when soon to be moms and dads go on and on about what they're gonna do, smile and nod and let them figure it all out - after all, it might work for them!

TV and bottle feeding. Lately my "morning sickness" has been horrendous and there has been a lot of TV watching going on. My daughter is very much attached to me and that's about the only thing that will distract her while I close my eyes and pretend I don't feel like barfing for a few minutes. I had always planned on breastfeeding but she just wouldn't do it so...maybe next time?

The only one that really bothers me a lot is the bottle vs. breast feeding thing because I think some mothers are way too judgmental about it. Other things I'm not upset over because I don't feel that emotion like I do when it comes to feeding my kids.

I said I'd never let Eric eat junk food and sweets.
But when I have a craving, it's just too mean to refuse him a bite. Thankfully he never wants alot, he is satisfied with a bite or two and then is done with it.

I hate it when moms say I'll never let my kid watch tv, I mean seriously is that even possible? :)

1 I have said I will NEVER let my kid watch tv every day...yah right...I will NEVER let my kids eat junk food...this was true up until my son turned 4....I said I will NEVER hit....I did until recently...on very rare occassions but have stopped.

2 What others say that makes me annoyed, I will never let my kids throw tantrums, and my kids will be good eaters...non of this not eating what I give to them..Good luck. Or your kid will never swear....BAHAHAHAHA!

Before I had kids I used to say "I will NEVER let my toddler have sugar or junk or anything bad for him EVER." yeah okay, it's been 17 years and 5 kids later, Riley just had chocolate/peanut butter ice cream for dessert and he's 15 months.

2) I love when I hear a new mom say "I'll never let him fall asleep on the breast, it's bad for them to do that." HAHAHA... sure some people would say it's bad them, but I would say it's pretty normal and a lot easier for most babies!

1. co-sleep, and hit my child. for never co-sleeping, i sure have done it alot, although i refuse to do it once they get to be older than a few weeks. but i did find out that room sharing is considered co-sleeping, so i guess i'm guilty of that, although that was not by choice, i had to do it.
hitting my kid...well, i was abused as a child and swore i wouldn't do it to my children. i have spanked my boys, and finally i realized that i was hitting my children when i spanked out of anger, which was almost every time. i'm very dissapointed in myself for that.


2. i really havn't ever had friends say they wouldn't do anything. most of the time, i just think they are overbearing. taking hteir kid to the ER cause it's constipated, or buying a diaper genie, or bottle warmer (all things i consider unnecessary, and a waste of money). oooh, i just thought of one, my SIL stated she wasn't going to go anywhere with her baby,he'd be staying away from germs and such that way. i'm sure that has ended, lol!

I will never give my daughter a bottle, or so I though until I experienced 4 months of pure hell breast feeding and almost had a nervous breakdown.

I have a "friend" who used to visit me when I was pregnant and when I first had my daughter. She used to criticise EVERYTHING! I would never drink a coffee when I am pregnant, I would never have an epi, I will exercise all the time when I am pregnant and not put on a pound, I will attend anti natal yoga when I pregnant, I will make sure my house is perfectly clean and organised when I have a baby, I will use cloth nappies they are better for the environment, I wont need an angel care monitor when I have a baby, I will never rock my baby to sleep, I will never let my children sleep with me, I will never give my child a dummy, I will never let my child run around with just a nappy on. WHATEVER!!

1. Dummies, TV, Maccas, bottle feeding (what a pain in the arse!!), letting the house get dirty.

2. All of the above. BAHAHA. Sometimes you just can't breastfeed even if you badly want to and are against bottle feeding. Babies need dummies sometimes. If you like TV your kid will most likely watch tv with you. If you eat maccas your kid is bound to end up with 10 mc bites and some chips every once in a while. Your house can't alwyas be spotless when your baby figures out how to move.
