Is Debate Mums morphing?

I've noticed lately that there have been several non-debate posts on this thread. And that has got me thinking... Should we create a second "Debate Mums" thread for more casual conversation? Don't get me wrong, I don't mind it being here. And I think the reason it is, is that we've got some pretty intelligent, savvy women on this community. So, as much as I would like to post in other communities I find myself saying, 'I wish there was a group like the Debate Mums that I could have more relaxed conversations with or ask some serious questions to'. What do you ladies think? Should we set up a sequel? We could call it Debate Mums Part 2.

You're exactly right Joy! Basically i wanted somewhere we could just have polite debates.....or any type of discussion! We now have Debating Mum's Gossip for support and stuff but everyone should feel free to post whatever they like here too.
I just wanted a nice place to chat and hang out that didn't have any of the drama!
Something i feel we've achieved (mostly!) hahaha! :)

Speaking as someone who has been in Debating Mums since day one, let me say this. I think when Sarah Moulton created this group (correct me if I'm wrong Sarah!) her goal was mostly to be able to debate (if we wanted) in a respectful manner and to basically have a page that is what the Welcome page "should be". So since the begining, we've all posted other things on here, not just debatable stuff. I don't mind seeing non debates here :)

Debating Mums sister community - Debating Mums Gossip

Discuss your family, your life, brag about your kiddos, talk about anything from bub to the tub, cars to star wars, the diners to the whiners - a comfortable, relaxed enviroment to get away from the debates all while upholding the respect and intelligence we all experience here on DM :D

Nah, I wouldn't feel bad about it, but I wouldn't make a habit out of it either since the core of this forum is the debating :)

There is always the possibility of it turning into a debate!

I appreciate the collective intelligence of DB and am therefore more inclined to ask questions that I want serious and intellectual answers from. I love that I can come on here and debate, but also that I can seek the help that I need when I need it.

Personally I think that it's great that the members are feelings comfortable enough to post more support oriented threads here - I think we're all intelligent enough to decipher the difference between a DEBATE post and a support/recommendation post. We are all "debating mums" but... we are all moms first and our babies come before our debates. So if people want to post threads asking questions and asking for support or recommendations - I think it's great :)

That's also my personal thoughts about this forum - I love the debates but I also know I can ask any of these wonderful ladies for advice if I need too. There are MANY other forums specifically for the support and recommendations, but if anyone feels comfy asking here, more power to them - I hope we can all do our part and help them :)

Good Lord. Seriously though, there were a ton of ignorant comments on that one. Scary.

LOL like the dipstick who told people that babies were safer on their moms laps?

I get what you mean. I asked the question about car seats b/c I respected the opinion of the ladies here. Anywhere else I'd get some girl giving me crappy advice. In another community where car seats were the topic, a mother of a four month old turned her child to foward facing b/c he seemed more comfortable and she could look at him!?!?!! I don't want advice from those women

I really doubt we need it yet. Maybe when this forum has more traffic. The whole point non debate posts here is we get decent internet traffic from women whose intelligence we respect.
