A study (done a while ago) found that using moisturizers can increase chances of skin cancer. The ones they tested were Eucerin 24% Dermabase 69% Vanicream 58% and Johnson and Johnson which didn't increase chances at all.

It made me quit using Eucerin. Do any of you still use these products? Do you pay any attention to what is in your moisturizers?

I use Clinique, it's the only one that doesn't make me break out. Is there NOTHING that doesn't cause cancer?

I don't use moisturizers because I have naturally oily skin. If I put moisturizer on my skin, it would be like putting baby oil on my entire body. Not a good thing!

She doesn't care anyway so what does it matter? Besides I don't want anyone to listen to me. I'm not God. I was just putting an idea out there.

Yes, in my opinion doing things that are deliberately harmful to yourself is not good behavior but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put that together and anyone reading her post is going to see she doesn't care so me pointing it out and saying 'I don't get it' isn't horribly rube. I didn't call her an idiot or anything condescending. I just don't get it.

Andddddddd if she gets skin cancer some day I'm not going to feel bad because I said 'I don't understand why you don't care about your health' to her which caused HER to not read an article and make a possible better decision. Because she had already made her decision to keep using this possibly harmful product before my comment was made so therefore my comment has absolutely no weight on her decision.

you were being critical of her and condescending. she's not going to listen to someone who is condescending, therefore not going to be receptive to what you have to say on the matter. that's why your attitude would affect a good source of information.
anyway i dont' want to to turn this into a why your attitude stinks thread. i just wanted to point out that people aren't going to be receptive to someone telling them they don't care about themselves.

Besides, why should my attitude affect good source information? I was really happy to find this website as it states what ingredients in them are causing higher chances of skin cancer. So I'm all excited to go look through my cabnet and know what I'm looking for specifically finally. I don't think I was being truly rude anyway, I just stated I do not understand why when people learn of the ill effects something has on their health they deliberately do not care. It's almost another topic for debate. Why do you or don't you care about your health when it comes to ingredients in foods, pesticides and chemicals? Hmmm....

if you want people to gain the knowledge of this, i would suggest maybe being a little less critical and judgemental. they might be a bit more receptive then.

I just love how people don't care about their health.... I don't get it.

I actually do use the Eucerin product 'Aquaphor' in conjunction with the lanolin on my lips. 1 study is something to remember, but I probably won't change my habits right now.

i have actually tried to start using natural products, but it is expensive. i do what i can, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and i dont' really use lotion except on my face-which is a natural kind.
i do it for the environmental benefit, plus it just makes sense to me to use natural products instead of slathering chemicals on myself.

Interesting. But what if we started to pay more attention and got rid of or quit using things that cause higher risks for skin cancer?
Afterall, they say 70% of women are getting cancer now a days. That's a huge number. If it's our moisturizers, make up, or even pesticides we spray around our yard causing this increase... we could at least try to live healthier and get these outrageous numbers to come down? What would you do if you got skin cancer? Wouldn't you start to wonder what caused it? Be mad at what could have caused it?

I only pay attention as far as the benefits of it go. I don't really worry about the whole "natural ingredients" thing -- there are so many other ways in which we can get cancer that I just don't have the mental energy to keep track of them all. Currently, I use a combo moisturizer/sunblock from Neutrogena.
