My earliest memories are from when I was about three -- I remember the goodbye party we had when we were about to drive from Alberta to Michigan for a sabbatical year. One of the neighbour girls (who would have been about 6) had made me an activity box to play with in the car, and I was disappointed because I thought the parcel would be a new doll. I was probably horribly rude LOL.

I remember lying on the floor with my Mom; feet propped up on the speaker in our living room singing take these broken wings by Mr. Mister. I was 2.5 at the time. It’s actually one of my most cherished memories.

I have a few from 2 - 3 years. I remember shopping with my father at one of the local (now gone) department stores before my brother was born. We would go like every other weekend and get a pretty dress. I also have one from around that time that wasn't real clear. I was visiting a lady in a really big house that had a lot of old people everywhere. My mom said that it had to have been a visit to the nursing home to visit my great grandmother before she passed. I would have been about 3.

I have a few memories from when I was 2, it was Easter and I was wearing a greenish blue skirt that I had picked out and a white shirt. I was in the backyard next to my swing looking for eggs. Most of them get clearer starting from 3 years, I remember whenever I was mad, I would go into the hallway and hide behind the bookcase until I felt better. I also remember preschool (3 years old), I had a crush on a boy from my class and when my mom would pick me up, I would tell her all about him, she would ask me all sorts of questions and I would answer them and tell her that he is the most popular boy in school.

My regular memories start around three years old, I remember hiding in my room at my 3rd birthday party because there were so many people.



I just read an article (probably the same one that started this thread) about how kids have memories before age two, it's just that they forget them unless the memory is constantly reinforced. It makes me think that a memory fragment that I have from when I was just an infant is real. I remember lying on my Oma's wooden chair (which means I was less than 2 feet long, so pretty young) and there were all these faces gathered above me in a circle, smiling and talking. It is just that image, the back of the chair rising up and all these faces, but it comes with a powerful feeling of safety and sleepiness. I had nightmares a lot as a kid and would call up that memory when I woke up so that I wouldn't be scared and could go back to sleep. Probably that repetition is why I still remember it.

I am pretty sure my most real memories started when I was 4 or 5, in kindergarten. I remember my classroom and classmates as if it was just yesterday.

I have a few memories from when I was 2. My teenaged brothers were in the back yard playing foot ball with their friends. My one brother, Mark, was running and a palmetto bug flew into his mouth and he swallowed it. I've always had this memory in my head and when I asked him about it years later, he couldn't believe I could remember that far back. I also remember a box full of black kittens that we had (don't know why we had them). I remember sneaking out of my bed in the middle of the night to take one of the kittens into my bed (my mom had said no earlier). I asked my mom about it when I was in my 20's and she said that had been when I was 2 and like my brother, she couldn't believe I actually remembered it.

My father built me a 'car' in the back yard. It was a wood bench for a seat and an old stearing wheel on a stick. I can remember taking dad for rides. I was around 4.

About 15 months. I have a very clear memory of my brother's 3rd birthday and my Grandpa spraying me in the face with a hose to clean the cake off my face.

2 years, 3 months and 2 weeks. Visiting my brother at the hospital. I can see him in his blue blanket in the baby crisper, but it's way up high because I'm so short. Then I have one from a few months later where he's in his car seat on the dining room table and my sister and I are discussing what we think he will sound like when he talks.

I have a snapshot memory of being on a bus between 18 and 20 months. My mother and father had seperated, and mom and I were going back to Oklahoma. I know it is real because no one ever said anything about it, until one day when I was 12, we picked my uncle up from the bus station. When I walked on the bus, I turned to my dad and said "it was a bus I was on, not a plane!" He about fell over! I got the whole story then, and my parents were uncomfortable that I 'remember' that time. Little did they know that I don't remember them fighting, nor do I remember being distressed or unhappy, I just remember walking up the steps onto the bus!

I was probably 18-20 mths old.



I was at a crache and having a real barney with another girl over a steering wheel for one of those ride on toddler bikes. I don't remember after that, but I do know that I still bear the physical scar!



I was on the said bike, left it for a second to go and get something before I could hop back on, the girl (in a really funny twist of fate was born the same day and same hospital as me, later going on to the same primary school as me.. though I believe that she was born 6hours after me) stole my steering wheel off the bike I was using and put it on to her bike which was missing one (there were a couple of bikes that were missing those steering wheels, and I distinctly remember being quite choofed about scoring one of those that did), I caught her in the act and went to get it back off of her!!! What followed must have been pretty bad, given the scar I still have, and our parents were called!!! LOL The scar, from being scratched so roughly that I was bleeding, was near my left hand side of my nose, but not quite on the cheek, right in the middle - between the top and the tip of my nose if going by lenght... though with age the scar has moved and is still slightly visible to the side of my cheek....

I was 2.5 years. I ran into the kitchen and told my Mom, our dog was humping my leg. She looked at me and said "WHAT DID YOU SAY?"... I said "Spunky (our dog) was just humping my leg"! I got in trouble for saying that...but he was, for crying out loud! ;)

Three, when we took a train trip across Canada. I took along my barbie that had glow in the dark stars on her dress and a flash light to play with in the dark in the bubble car. I remember being afraid to pass between cars due to the motion and noise. I remember my mother instructing me to drink first before eating in the dining car. I remember being annoyed that my dad wouldn't let me have the top bunk in the sleeper car. At one point transitioning between trains my dad had to run back on to retrieve a dinosaur toy I left on it. I remember feeding the gulls raisins off of some ferry boat. We went to Crystal Gardens and I remember being so enamored by the tiny squirrel monkeys sleeping in their hammock.

I remember potty training (don't know the exact age). I remember what my potty looked like, I remember how our laundry floor looked back then and I remember feeling very clever and grown up when I did the business in my potty.

The first memory I know for sure is real is when I was in the second grade and we did chalk art of rain forest animals outside our classroom I choose a toucan. I have snap shot images younger than that but my family was in an accident when I was a toddler and it affected my mothers ability to remember things so unfortunately if asked to confirm something as real in my childhood it's fuzzy; my babyhood and toddler years are lost completely except for photos.

Before Kindergarten, I think 3, I'm not sure but I went to kindergarten at 4.

My auntie, who is dying right now, she was holding me. I was in a school room, I think it was my older brother's school room. I was being fussy, I was uncomfortable and she picked me up. She had this large watch locket, very 70's heavy, brass piece on a long chain. I used to open and close it. She always let me play with it.

For most of my adult years, I've been searching for a locket like it. Sadly, it looks like I'm getting the original. It was not an expensive piece, so it was not stolen, like so many of her things, while she has been sick. My mother found it the last time she was in Germany. She brought it home and plans on giving it to me, when she is ready to let go of it.

I think maybe 3 or 4. Like Dove I have many fuzzy mini memories and some of them fall around that age. Now that I think of it I have quite a few memories of pre-school which I attended when I was four.

My very first memory is in K, so either 4 or 5 years old. MOST of my memories of my entire childhood are just brief, fuzzy glimpses though. Mostly the same w/ my teenage and early adult years too.

I was 2 yrs 3 months, it was my brothers birth. I have fake memories before that but there's always a picture of said memory so I know it's not a real memory. His birth, there was no pictures of what I remember and my aunt says my memory is accurate.
