OK, I think we've all joked at times (and if you haven't, your kids are probably still very young, so there is time yet) that we couldn't get 2 cents for our kids on ebay. But do you think this mother took it TOO far when she actually went through with putting up an ebay listing on her kids? Should she really lose her children and be charged for it?

An auction of two children under ten set up by their mother "as a joke" is under investigation by police.

The Geelong woman allegedly put photos of her son and daughter, both under ten, and wrote a "lengthy sales pitch," the Herald Sun reported.

Members of the public alerted the police to the page, where a number of bids had already been made on the children.

The page has since been taken down, and Victorian police decided against pressing charges against the woman.

The mother claims the page was a joke.

The children have since been taken into care, and the mother could lose them permanently.

"Investigators from Geelong were notified last week that a mother was trying to sell her two children on eBay," a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

"Photos of the children, a boy and a girl both aged under 10 years, were included in the sales pitch."

Police were also disturbed by the number of serious bids placed in the auction. They will investigate the bidders.

"The mother wrote a lengthy sales pitch that was very interesting reading," a police source said.

"She said the page was created as a joke, but what worries us is the people bidding on the auction. Who knows who these people are. They could be paedophiles or anyone. It's extremely disturbing."

The woman faced charges and up to 12 months in jail, but police accepted her claim that the auction page was just a joke.

Opps i tired once on facebook to give away my whole family even the hubby, but there were no takers LOL! I would never even as a joke put my kids up on ebay thats just crazy.

This was my facebook status...

Free to good home - A litter of 3 little ones, and adult male. They come in a sorted colours, from blonde to brunette, even a multi coloured one. They are all house broken, though they do make large messes, can eat you out of house and home. They know most of their commands. Must take them as a group, as momma doesn’t want any lingering around. Their names are Phillip, Joyce, Natthaniel, and Abbigail.

At least in many countries it is illegal to sell children, not here in The Netherlands! READ this http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/20...
The couple bought a baby, but it is legal to do so, they got a fine for trying to fake his/her citizenship...7500.00 fine
I think it not a joking matter when you have so many children and adults being bought and sold daily. "the Modern Slave Trade".
So I agree that the message should be not tolerated, not a joke and she should face the charges but given some grace by the court.

Unless there are other reasons for removing her kids from her which we aren't being told then I think that was a little harsh, as the police believe her claim t was a joke. Albeit a very immature joke - why she didn't think about who would bid for an ad like that?

As for the people who did bid, I hope the police can trace their ebay accounts and follow up with it and charge them where necessary!

It's beyond poor judgement and bad parenting at the moment. I do believe she should have to do some community service hours as a fine, something along the lines in child welfare so she realizes that while all parents get frustrated, none of us woudl actually follow through with placing an Ebay ad. I'm curious as to how many sickos actually were dumb enough to place a bid?

Oh god no my kids would bawl there eyes out if i told them i would sell them on ebay. They have no clue what ebay even is lol. They would be terrifed & upset with me just saying it as a joke.

I think this mom took it way to far.:-(

Way to go the police for looking into those bidders. Some have to be sickos.

I would of been horrified that a mother could think this was a joke.If anyone bidded for a joke there being investigated now.Crazy..i guess they will soon find out its not such a funny joke then.

Pictures of your kids to on ebay. This mother has issues.
