In 1991, pregnant Demi Moore posed nude for the cover of Vanity Fair magazine. Since then other celebrities and those not as famous have also posed and exposed their naked pregnant bellies for the cameras. Why are they doing it? Is it art, or are

women just not hiding their bodies anymore? For some, it's still very controversial; others see these posed bare bellies as a beautiful art form and one-of-a-kind family keepsake, as well as a sign of our changing culture, Then there are those who value maternity photos as art, hanging their pregnant belly portraits in their homes or even posting them on the web.

What brought on this topic is a discussion about my friends photos she had taken while pregnant as a professional model she is often in front of the camera but this is the first time shot pregnant and naked .

What are your views ?

one of my friends is a professional photographer so she took a heap of photos of me pregnant and naked. I think that the pregnant body is beautiful. i didn't put my photos on the internet though because some of them showed by breasts/vagina

I have to admit, I did both naked and clothed pregnancy pictures when I was pregnant with my daughter. It was a gift from my mother. I absolutely love them; they are so special to my husband and me. In my nude photos, I was hugging my own breasts and was draped in a sheer sheet so the focus was on my belly. In no picture was my pubic area ever showed nor were my breasts. I love the photos and am so glad I did them. I have never posted them online though. They are a special memory for my family and not for random people on the internet. I think a pregnant woman's body should be celebrated not hidden.

I think the pregnant body is beautiful, and it should be glorified! If someone chooses to have some nude shots done while pregnant, good for them. BUT... I would want to be able to control who sees them. I would definitely not post them on the web, or in a portfolio, or on the cover of a magazine (as in Demi Moore). As Jo said, some people are creeps. Even though I'm sure this shoot was done in the name of art, not everyone will see it that way.

I don't think it's wrong, I don't think it's inappropriate, I do think it's artful but I also think it's fucking scary. Personal photo's for yourself is one thing... putting yourself out there on the internet for anyone to see... it's scary... I feel the same way about people who put pictures of their naked babies online... and the same way about actresses and models that pose naked or appear naked in pictures or on film - it's not that the human body isn't beautiful but it opens yourself up to a lot of sick individuals and for me, personally - although I would never have that body - if I did... I wouldn't put myself out there because it's too damn easy for some sick fuck to find out who, where, and decide to play out their sick fantasies in real life. Maybe unlikely, but still scary. Not something I would be ok with doing myself.

And I am a photographer, artist and I have uses nudity in my art - my art though... is less personal, less real... more abstract than the photo's that we're discussing here.

I think that it is because for decades women have been forced to hide their bellies (ie under corsets...seriously, they would be laced in until their 7th month) Now that we are in a time that we can actually show them off, women are jumping at the chance. I think they are beautiful and deserve to be preserved (not just in our memories). If they are done well, then it is most definitely art.

I think its beautiful..i wish i had done some pregnant shots on the beach in Broome for memories. My cousin is a photographer and shes done a lot of pregnancy shoots..she does naked women with cheesecloth stretched over their bodies and bumps..its really artistic.

Had my body looked that good while I was pregnant, I would've done it too ;P I think these shots are beautiful and I commend the women who have the nerve to do it.

I don't see it as being any different than a non-pregnant nude photo. Nudes aren't generally my style, but there are some really well done ones that I can definitely see as art-and although I probably wouldn't hang one in my home, that doesn't mean they're not beautiful.

I think it can be an art and I personally think it's beautiful. I would do it if I found someone who took beautiful pictures, of course I'd have to get pregnant again....

Wow! I think it is such a beautiful picture! I thought I was goin gto see something close up in your face pregnant pic. But I was very surprised! Stunning!

Whether this was a "publicity stunt" or for personal reasons, I think there are far more issues in the world to deal with than pregnant women baring all. If no one wants to see the pics, they do not have to look.
