We've had medicare since before i was born here in Australia and I think it's a great idea. He also gave the government a pay cut when he was first sworn in didn't he? And yes pulling the troops out or whatever. At least he is doing something lol unlike the Australian government who just talk and never change anything to see if it works or is good.

they haven't mentioned that to us over here...knock on wood...(actually banging on it)...we live outside the base in goverment housing...it works like this....E-1 thru E-3 do not receive any money for housing unless they have a family...if you are a 21 year old single guy in the military and are one of these ranks then basically you are working at a fast food restaurant, many have second jobs at this point, or room with with other poor soldiers or they live on the ship, in the barracks etc. if you happen to be married(and some get married just for the extra money(why is the divorce rate so high again?) which is about 200 extra dollars per month..and no, that isn't per family member, and then they will give you BAH to be able to afford somewhere for your family to live since your wife and baby aren't going in the barracks or your rack on the ship. Your BAH depends on the cost of living in the state you are in. If you live in some little town where it cost peanuts to live, your BAH or housing allowance is going to reflect that etc. you receive the housing allowance because without it, being as though the military doesn't pay you according to what you should be paid you know, risking your life and all, you couldn't afford to live anywhere else. Now lets say you have an apartment or house and it cost 1000 a month, well your BAH is 950, so you are responsible for the rest, plus bills, car notes, food, daycare, blah blah blah..or you can get a good deal and get a place for around 750, and have BAH left over to go toward these things. Now, when you move into base housing, that BAH is automatically taken so you dont see that 900, 1000, 1600..whatever..it goes right back to the goverment so then you make due with whatever you have coming in after that.



If they started making us pay our bills seperately, it wouldn't be a big deal because this is the first time either of us has lived on base we were both out in the world making it work with what we had..he was military but lived in a regular apt and i had a townhouse in a co-op when we met. They sold to a company and said hey we want you buy or we relocate you. they gave us money, we relocated( it was to small for a growing family so we didn't buy) to an apartment the size of a shoe box 3bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, rent 1300( and going up) and we were paying every utility, child care for 3 kids etc.., food, 2 vehicles etc..it was killing us..so when the opportunity came up to move to the newly renovated 2000 sq ft, 4 bedrooms, 3 bath houses on base..ummm...yeah we took it because it came out cheaper. We started the process of buying but we dont know where he will be next year at this time so it's on hold, but thats about the way it works as far as the getting money frome the military for having a family and living expenses, because if they didn't even the kids would have to get jobs to be able to live on what they pay them. Obama has helped us because military is not supposed to have to pay the taxes on the vehicles, but on my truck since both of our names are on it, they have been charging us because i am not active duty military..that sucks, as of last year, Obama had it changed that now even if the whole darn families name is on the title, if he or she is in the military they dont have to pay, he saved us 300 dollars a year...i kinda like the guy..

They are actually doing mock-billing this year so people can get an idea of what that will be like so they can try to conserve as much water/electricity as possible.

That doesn't much sound like 'letting you learn'. It sounds like, right, we're going to stop you from using over x amount of water and over y amount of electricity because we want to stop spending that much on bills.

Admittedly I don't personally know what it is like in the Army, but my best friend married a soldier and she was always telling me how awesome it was to live on camp because rent was taken straight away and you didn't have to worry about it. She didn't have to pay council tax, she got significant reductions of her gas, electric and water bills just because her husband was a soldier and her husbands pay increased JUST because he got married.

If that happened in the outside world than no-one would be getting foreclosed on. JMO.

It's not that I DON'T have compassion for those people, it's that sometimes I think people just need to live and learn. And don't talk about the military if you aren't living any kind of military life (spouse or AD/Reserves) b/c you don't seem to know what all you're talking about. Yeah, we get housing and housing allowances when we get stationed to an expensive area. The military doesn't have to take care of it for you, you can easily set it up to where you have to pay for things yourself and not have it come out automatically.

They started doing that on many military installations already, pretty soon they will al be doing it.



And when you say cradled, it makes it sound like we're being babied. Not true at all. We're not babied. They teach you how to take care of things so that when you get out of the military and out on your own, you know what you're doing. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Tah, I didn't see your post before when you addressed me. I would never say anything like that to you, as far as being cradled by the military because you don't sit there attacking people without compassion. I only said that to Christina because she talked about (regular) people being bailed out by the government. It's easy to sit there and attack people who graduated high school or college who went out and bought homes, etc.. vs people who graduated high school and signed into the military. That's what I mean by cradled. I don't necessarily mean it's a bad thing. The military nurtures (which is what cradled means) young adults into responsible adults. There's a safety net there, of housing and job security. The rest of us don't get to work a secure job, that takes out our rent and utilities and deals with it all for us. Luckily I'm not one of those people who are in debt or has a home in foreclosure but, it's frustrating to see others who don't have compassion for those who do. I hope that makes sense and I haven't offended you further. lol

Yes, Laura, in Ohio you have to declare a party for the primary and then vote only for that party. Then for the regular election you can vote for whomever you choose. It actually makes more sense that way.

Some states have closed Primaries, Laura. Basically, you have to declare a party and then (in my experience) you are only given a ballot for that party. This is only for primary elections, though.

secondly glenn beck IS a lying troll, and i don't understand how you can compare his lies to ANYTHING run by cnn or msnbc AT ALL. you think it's just bias or something, but it has been proven time and time again by outside parties who have no stake in whether glenn beck lies or not that when he opens his mouth, you can almost guarantee a lie will come out.
heres just a couple glen becks lies:

LIE: that the black panthers were not prosecuted under the obama administration for voter intimidation.

TRUTH: under the BUSH administration they were not prosecuted, under the obama administration there was a civil trial (that's all that could be done thanks to BUSH) and it was won.

LIE: ACORN is helping people smuggle illegal underage girls in for prostitution, all while the people asking for the underage girls were dressed as a pimp and prostitute.

TRUTH: they weren't dressed that way, AND the guy called his cop cousin afterward, after he got as much info from them as he could. pretty much the whole video was a big fat lie. beck spead this lie over and over again.

LIE: the government will have access to all of your computer files if you access Cars.gov for the cash for clunkers program.

TRUTH: that is false. mr beck quoted the security message on the site for dealers, not the general public. and while mr beck stated that this would happen if the dealer went there, he also spouted off about how they shouldn't access this website at home.

LIE: under the new bill, not having health insurance will result in people being jailed.

TRUTH: you will face a tax penalty, not jail time

LIE: he's claimed he has never attacked anybody's family before until he did it with malia obama.

TRUTH: made comments about michelles breasts, made comments about obamas aunt with a gimpy leg, saying he took her cane from her earlier. he also made comments about his father and mother and how his father left him to go off and be a communist, and his mother leaving him with his grandparents and how horrible she was for doing that, and how it must have affected baracks psyche.

For that election, in WA state you had to vote for the party you are registered in otherwise your vote was negated, seems right? Gives a person a real "choice" there doesn't it?

Well, as some of you have pointed out, it's only been two years, so I think it's a bit early to pass judgement.

I fundamentally think he is good man, who really does have admirable intentions of improving the quality of life for ALL people, particularly those most in need.

I think he has earnestly TRIED to implement significant change, but the botton line is that our government is so dysfuntionally mired in partisan bickering that it is damned near impossible for ANY president to implement the policies and legislations in a way that reflect his original intent.

I also think he became president at a shitty time...people were so panicked and disgruntled with the state of affairs that he INHERITED, that short of an immediate and miraculous fix, he was going to be faulted. I'm pretty sure that we would be crucifying McCain in the very same way if he had been elected instead (although I personally believe we would be even more fucked than we currently are).

Being an agent of change almost directly translates into being evil incarnate in the minds of many people. It is pretty much human nature to resist it, and to villify the causative agent. I think only time will tell overall how effective he was.

Well, the new health care bill WILL absolutely help my family. While I haven't read all of it, one thing is that I will be able to insure my kids up to the age of 26 instead of 22. With college kids not graduating in some cases BY 22, this is a huge load off of my shoulders for my children.

We just pulled out all but 50K troops from Iraq which living in a military town, is a huge relief for a LOT of my friends and neighbors.

Watch any interview with Glenn Beck where somebody has asked him about his ethics and research. He always says that he does NO research, and that he doesn't plan to, that he doesn't care if any of his information is true...because he's an entertainer! NOT well informed. period.

I don't just watch Fox News. I frankly don't find any news station reputable enough to trust these days. But I must ask, why believe CNN or MSNBC over FOX? None of them have any concept of ethical journalism. And none of theme have any proof to back up what they say. So FOX can say Glenn Beck's the best thing since sliced bread and CNN can say he's a lying bastard, but you'd rather believe CNN because their spin is better than others? It's still spin. That doesn't make CNN any better than FOX.
