Though its not an odd phobia to me the dark is still terrifying to me after all these years! Im terrified of some dark creature just waiting to pounce on me. Unrational but real to me.

Recently, I watched an episode of CSI and it totally freaked me out. "Ian Moone"( Translated into "I AM NO ONE, Season 11") aka the guy in the creepy black latex suit, If you didnt or havent seen(and if creepy shows freak you out then dont bother watching it or google it...TRUST ME) it think batman who is as agile as a freakin monkey and can fold him self up into a space the size of where you would fit your spare tired underneath the car floorbed. Basically the story behind the creepy dude is that he knows about peoples secrets and he threatens them first and tells them they must confess their secrets or he will kill them. Well, one of his victims who didnt listen is in the car wash with her daughter(who is like 6 btw) and she says to her daughter to put on her earbuds and then the mom calls her "lover" and low and behold this dude was hiding in the spare tire compartment and brutally murders the mom in front of the daughter(Her secret was having an affair and she didnt confess)....And when Brass talks to the little girl and asks her if she can remember anything he may have said she pauses and says "Sqweegel" which becomes uber creepy when you couple that word with those tentacle like washer things going back and forth....

@ Danielle- It scared the heck outta me! I wish I's had a camera with me lol. Even if I did I prob wouldnthave thought to use it from being so freaked out!


@Peggy- I am the same way with meat and was a vegetarian for years. I guess if I buy it in the store I can pretend it was never really a living being, as opposed to actually seeing it as pig or a fish, rather than a slice of bacon or a fillet. I still hate meat though, t grosses me out so bad but I eat it on occasion for the protein.

I have a friend like that Peggy. This might freak you out a bit but i love catching and slaughtering my own food. I love collecting the eggs and eating them that morning. Nothing tastes as good as fresh food that i know what has happened and where it has been.

I can not buy brown eggs... and the thought of going out and grabbing an eggs that a chicken just hatched and fry it up completely GROSSES me out!! I can NOT eat any part of a pig at a Pig Roast.. I like bacon and ham but only if its store bought. I am the same with fish... I am good to go if we get it a the seafood market but if I know it was caught by a friend or my hubby I cant eat it!!... I also have the normal fears of drowning in car off a bridge, being caught in a fire, bugs, sharks, swimming in lake, river or pond... I can do a pool and the beach if its crystal clear and only ot me knees or so.

@ Barb~ My husband's fear is poisonous snakes. He doesn't like snakes period but he's terrified of rattler's, cotton mouth's, ect. So I'm gonna try to catch an oak snake this summer (which looks just like a rattle snake) and scare him with it. I want to put it in his truck but he'll go nuts and kill it lol and I don't want that. Like I said...PAYBACK *evil laugh ;)

I scared the living crap out of hunni and his mother yesterday. I turned into the kitchen, saw a HUGE spider crawling up the wall and lost my shit. I screamed like they've never heard before and jumped to the opposite side of the room, knocking my MIL into the wall as I did, and crouched there pitch white and shaking. Beacuase I had yet to get the words out 'kill it' they assumed it was something to do with the baby and started freaking. I then got in trouble "We thought you were going into labour don't scream like that!" and then my MIL told me if I get scared like that while pregnant I'll have a nervous baby...yeah because looking like an idiot child or triggering premature labour isn't encouragement enough I'll get right on not being scared because I'll make the baby 'nervous'.

Any insect other than a fly, lady bug, or small ants (big ants--forget it they give me the willies). I break out in a sweat trying to kill bugs. If my husband is home I will definitely get him to do it instead, but if I have to, especially if it is a spider, it can sometimes take me 30 minutes or more to do the job.

OMG I am terrified of the grudge chic too! We live in Seattle where it was filmed so I'm always on the look out for her lol. I thought I saw her one time under the bridge by Pike Place Market but then realize it was just a junkie having an "episode". No joke- totally serious- looked just like her. Scared the crap out of me!

To my husband and friend's amusement I'm terrified of clowns and anything like the movie The Grudge. Let me explain..The dark hair and black eyes and crawling around scares the shit out of me! Not to mention the sounds they make (*Shiver) My husband likes to pull himself down the hallway making that sound and then peak around the door and when I go into full blown panic attack decides he's got to go to the store for something. Then you have my best friend that will call my phone and if I don't answer she'll start making that sound until it cuts her off. Payback is a bitch lol...they'll get theirs one day

i can't swim so i'm terrified of deep or murky water. in turn, i'm also terrified of dolphins and whales. whale song scares the hell out of me. dolphins are creepy to me. the idea of being in a boat over Loch Ness makes me want to die, haha.

even just thinking about looking down into deep, murky water like a deep lake or the ocean makes me start panicking........

My phobia is under the bed. I'm good if the lights are on, but i can't walk within arms length by the bed if the room is dark.
If i do, i get charlie horses in my calves and my legs get all jumpy and achy, my hearts starts racing and overwhelming fear takes over my body and i jump into bed and huddle up and have to rub my legs to make the feeling go away.

When i was little my brothers would hide under my bed and grab my ankles as i was getting into bed. If the lights are off now, i jump into bed from 2 to 3 feet away. Doug knows to stay on his side so i have my landing strip.

Oh but as for an actual phobia, it's spit and people touching me. People standing too close to me in line so that I can smell or feel their breathe gets me really upset. I don't know why some people feel the need to be on top of you when they're in line. You aren't going to get through any faster so back the heck off already! If a person I dont know brushes up against me it creeps me out. And when my babies were tiny I would become irate if someone got in their faces or tried to touch their hands. Someone that I don't know, I mean. Like in a store. Isn't it common sense not to do that though? Apparently not for everyone. Babies constantly stick their hands in their mouth and here's joe blow touching them maybe after he just took a shadooby and maybe didn't wash his hands well enough if at all. I say somethng though. I try to be polite by saying please dont touch their hands but you know they still think you're a bitch for it. Oh well, I'll be the bitch if that means my baby not eating your poop germs! : )

I have a severe fear of hights and the funny thing is I didn't even realize it until I went bungee jumping with some friends! I wasn't scared at all til I got up there and then couldn't jump- I tried and tried and tried again until finally everything went black and i felt my hair flying up. I FAINTED off the edge!!! So does that count as an actual jump? Do I still get credit for bungee jumping? ; )



I also have severe fears of the paranormal. I'm with you, Julianne, I think zombies will invade one day lol. I lived in a house that was haunted and it was terrifying. Oh hey, lets make a thread about ghosts! Even though I'm terrified it is still the most wonderfully interesting thing to talk about.

I'm absolutely terrified of needles too. I was 19 and got rearended, bumped ,y head on the steering wheel and got cut... i needed stitches and i screamed and cried at the doc the whole time... then they had to give me a tetanus shot and i faught them and kicked and yelled. I kept screaming at them i had a right to refuse medical treatment and i don't want a needle. When i was 16 i nearly broke the dental assistant's hand when i had to get freezing for a filling. I cried and screamed and hyperventilated every time i had to get bloodwork done both times i was pregnant... awful. And the icing on the cake? Giving birth to my second child, my sister was on her way to my hospital room and they were attempting to insert my IV. She heard bloodcurdling screams from down the hallway and a passing nurse commented that someone must be in labour. she started laughing and said "nope, that sounds like needle screams". So that's my phobia. Oh and when i was 5 i had to have a bloodtest for something and it took 3 nurses and my mom to hold me down (and 1/2 hour of fighting) and they couldn't even straighten my arm all the way.

I have normal ones scared of spiders, heights, dogs, small spaces or spaces that are too open. I've been told this one is weird, though it makes sense to me. Body parts either missing or seeing them detached. For instance I go by the philosophy that anything with 6 legs is a bug, 4 is a pet, 2 is a friend. I cannot handle centipeds, maggots, worms, spiders etc. I can not handle being close to a dog or person who has lost a limb or has an extra one, which is difficult because my friend's uncle lost his legs in his time in the army, I have an uncle who is missing fingers I just can't handle being around people with stuff missing it sends me into a panic attack no matter how bad I feel or who they are. Bald people freak me out, people who are missing teeth, seeing my son lose his baby teeth will send me into a trip so I'm not looking forward to that. My grandpa had webbed toes and that grossed me out I have a friend who lost their thumbnail in an accident and it wont grow back, this phobia comes up quite a bit. I know everyone else thinks its stupid or insensitive but I honestly can't help it the first time I remember freaking out about it was when I found my grandma's false teeth, scared the shit outta me. If I were ever to lose my teeth hair or a limb I don't know what I'd do, I couldn't stand myself not for silly cosmetic reasons just because I'd be so freaked out by my own body. I have nothing against people with physical disability or quirky things like moles but if I see it you'd think they were trying to torture me I just freak out, shake, hyperventilate, I look like a total idiot or just rude but I don't mean to be.

Im afraid of swimming in the nearest lake/river to us, as there has been water moccassins spotted before (water snakes) -- although there hasnt been any bad reports - i just dont want to run into them at all. Im afraid of drowning. It depends on the heights - i wouldnt say i was afraid - but i do get a little edgy - hey, did roofing with my husband - although it was cool to be up on the roof - like being on top of the town -- it was still a little nerve wrecking, worrying about falling. Im afraid to see the paranormal, too - ive heard it, and saw two things in my life - everytime i get that eerie feeling as pray that i wont see anything, and that it will go away quickly! lol Just dont want to venture to that realm of life. I dont mind some spiders - the fat, hairy ones (not tarantulas) are the ones i cant stand. We have a lot of the big ass ones in our basement (about size of quarter) i will be rummaging through a box, and 'oops - there it is!' lol more like 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" there it is! hahahaha Bees suck too - im always freaked out when bees or wasps come around - ive been stung a few times when i was younger - and i just dont want to get stung again -- i worry even more for my kids to get stung than anything. I don't like going for walks in the dark, unless im with someone - im always afraid of a wild animal attacking me. And finally - im afraid of someone breaking in and hurting me and my kids too -- esp while my husband is at work - i feel safer in town than i did out in the country - obv. because of next door neighbors - but even still - i get paranoid at times, and i almost never go to bed until my hubby gets home from work.

I can't do tiny little bubble like things. Frog eggs, spawn under a crawdads tail, a close up of a fly's eye. those nasty darkly glittering bubble balls make me want to hurl. Oh and um watching the eggs/spawn squirm omfg.... I get the heebie jeebies from hell.

I got over a lot of my weird/extreme phobias when I was younger.

Stairs. I'm terrified of stairs. I fell down some when I was a little girl. I still have a scar on my ankle where I had fallen. If I have to use stairs, I will shake all the way down and I have to hold onto the railings.

I'm so glad to hear that someone else shares my weird phobia of latex balloons. I have no problem with the mylar ones. And even the latex ones are fine if deflated, or if they're inflated and bobbing up in a corner out of reach.

However, if a kid is squeezing a balloon, or if someone is blowing a balloon up to the point where it looks like it could pop anyfreakingsecond? I start to hyperventilate and cry. Seriously. It REALLY freaks me the hell out.

I don't have any true phobias, I think mine are controllable, but still irrational, so idk what they are called

I'm scared of stairs, I always imaging falling down them, like every time I use stairs.

Worse when I have eric with me cuz I imagine him with a snapped neck at the bottom.

Ok but this doesn't stop me from using stairs, it's just something I fight off.

Number two, is I'm scared of another person intentionally huurting me. Like stalking me and shooting me in the dark specifically. Or breaking into my house and taking Eric, or shooting me. I'm scared of guns, I have never touched one and never will.

I'm scared of swimming in water I can't see the bottom, I always picture being pulled down into nothingness.

I used to be scared of the toilet that I'd sit down and something would come up the pipe and suck me down, or just hurt my bottom!

I get OCD about hair, like I HAVE to get the hair off my clothes from the animals, I can not sit on a couch or chair that has visible rhair on it, and if I feel hair on my skin somewhere I HAVE to get it off.

Wee bit scared of big fish, and scary looking fish like catfish. Mostly just avoid them at the aquarium, but I was fishing as a kid and I caught an albino catfish! It was so scary I have never fished since, and that's when I started hating some fish.



I guess my biggest fear is the guns. And the idea that someone will intentionally try to hurt me, and always in the dark. So guns, murderers, and dark are my three worst fears all put together.

People can have a nasty mouth - and i dont want contact with it -- im sure my mouth can get nasty - morning breath sucks, and your saliva seems pasty -- my husband tries to kiss me in the morning and i just about want to vomit (except if he kisses me on the cheek or forehead - i can handle that much).

Bodily fluids from other people - i cant stand snot and saliva especially --when my ex-friend brought her kid around he was always snot-nosed and drooled all over -- i just couldnt take it! It had nothing to do with her son, i just cant do it --with my own kids and husband boogers/snot gross me out, when my kids were babies i kissed them all the time -- now that they are older, i wont even share a beverage, or if they took a bite of something, i wont eat it. My mom and friends/family offer me a sip of what they are drinking, or to try a bite of something - and i have to refuse the beverage, and take a bite on the end they didnt bite on -- i just dont want to eat their saliva, tooth plaque or tarter, or whatever else might be there -- in beverages too - if you look in your cup, especially when eating, food particles from your mouth and teeth 'backwash' into the cup -- i gross out soo bad about it - of course except for my own self.
I know, im a weird ass - but its my phobia.

i think most of my fears are pretty rational. I am terrified of most heights, especially if i have to go on a ferris wheel and it gets stuck at the top. i scream bloody murder as the seat rocks back and forth even though the ride is no longer moving (HATE THAT!!)

I am also afraid of being upside down on a ride. Hence the reason I've never been on a roller coaster.

I think these fears are pretty normal. I don't have anything weird like being afraid of buttons...what can a button do to you? lol

As for willies....I cannot stand nails on a chalkboard and I cannot stand when people snap their fingers!! When someone snaps their fingers, I start scratching the skin off the palm of my left hand because I need to distract myself from the horrible snapping sound. PS. I am deaf...I may or may not be able to hear snapping...... ok maybe I do have an irrational fear!!!

I have an irrational fear of latex balloons. I don't mind the mylar ones but the rubber / latex ones? I FREAK. There have been a few times since my son was born that he's had reason to get one of them and I don't try to stop him. I don't want to instill my fear into him. Last time he got one was at an antique car show they had in our town and someone was giving all the kids balloons. I let Jacob have one, even carried it for him when he almost let it go. He played with that stupid thing for 2 days before it finally popped and thankfully, I wasn't in the room when it popped or I would have screamed. I HATE those things!

Heights (in any form, be it flying, an escalator, a second story balcony...)
Bugs (specifically spiders and centipedes) But I also can't kill a bug either, so I trap them under cups and leave them for DH to dispose of. No joke, many a time he's come home to cups duct taped to the walls.

I'm a little confused- are these all actual phobias or are they things that give us the willies? You know that nasty shiver that goes up your spine when you feel/see/hear something.

My willies are: drying my hands on a dry towel when only one hand is wet

-writing with a pencil that has the tip broken and only the wood touching the paper

- squished bugs/spiders

-the fuzzy paper you get if you rip corrugated cardboard apart or when you peel off a sticker label

-hair in my food

-the squeaky cotton inside medicine bottles

-dirt/sand under my nails

-boogers
