i agree lacye no matter what weather your child shouldnt be running around naked and shannin i have been that parent answering the door witha half naked kid behind me many times when she was little i barely got her to stop walking around half naked and shes 13 now she will like walk across the house holding her lil boobs sayning mom cant find a shirt lol not really funny but thats her but we got men roommates now so i told her you cant do that with men in the house

At home could care less. Actually my daycare kids swim all summer in nothing but their undies. Who cares.

In public always clothes no exceptions.

Also yes I ran around in my undies a lot especially at close friends or my grandparents when we swam in the summer.

My son can be just in a diaper at home. And then if its insanely hot a shirt and diaper only in the backyard. However in public we put some pants on!

They aren't breasts on a 6 year old - they are nipples. Just like a boy has nipples. So I would hardly say they are showing off their breasts......

i wouldn't do it with underwear, but with a diaper i would. i have no clue why i feel there is a difference, but to me there is, lol. i dont' think it attracts pedophiles, they'll do what ever they want when they want, i've never even heard of a pedophile attacking a child who only had underwear on-they go for the clothed ones too ya know.;)
anyhoo, i think it's just a thing here that undergarments are to be worn UNDER garments. i do get uncomfortable when i see little girls with their breasts showing as well. there's a girl next door who always walks around with huge dresses on that hang down and her breasts pop out. she's 6. i don't like seeing that, it makes me really uncomfortable. so to just do it intentionally and not wear a shirt at all, just skeeves me out.

We used to all play under the hose outside and never bothered to change into togs, so clothes would get heavy and end up coming off until we were over being wet. Until puberty struck lol

I think it is pretty much an Australian rite of passage. Maybe that explains why none of us have any issue with it. I don't know anyone who would care too much. I've let Taylah run around in her knickers in other peoples yards too. In fact, I also recall letting her strip down to her shorts (she took off her tshirt) to splash around on the beach when we were in New Zealand just a few months ago. I honestly never thought anything of it.

I would if it was in my backyard, half the time my toddler pulls her underwear off in the backyard so she hasnt even got that on just a t shirt. I wouldnt let her out in public like that as shes 3 but in my home or outside I dont see the problem i see many people with toddler at the shops wearing just nappys as well. I would be happy to take my 9 month old out in very little clothing but not toddler.

I just don't see how it's an issue when they're in the backyard. I wouldn't be keen on my 2yo running down the street in just her undies, but the backyard is her domain. I actually think all Aussie kids run around naked or in undies at some point. There's a photo of my brother and I (I was 4, he 2) playing with the hose in our driveway in our undies. Not a big deal around here.

Yep , my boys do it all the time in summer , it can get passed 40 degrees C in Australia but mostly they wear a singlet too but I have no issue with them playing in the yard in their undies ...I just think the whole worry is ridiculous .

Yes, all kids do it here. Nappies, trainers, undies... who cares. My kids will be playing in the back yard due to hoons though, people drive too fast in this street. Letting them play out the front yard is just stupid if you have no fence. I put my baby in a onesie or shorts/pants and a t shirt if we go out in the car though, no promises on the shoes.

I still don't see the issue either inside my home or in our yard. I have no issue with it. My 6 year old has started to gorw out of it a bit, but right at this moment, she is walking around the house with no top on and just her pajama pants.

I would allow her to go out in public like that, but at home (including our yard) anything goes.

And when we go out, I let her wear whatever she pretty much chooses to wear, within reason (ie. in the middle of winter she can't wear her summer dresses). SOme of the combinations are hilarious, and she has absolutely NO taste, but hey, isn't this how they learn?

My brother and I would run around naked in the backyard when we were little. Any time we went into public though we had on clothes. I am pretty sure we wore clothes in the front yard unless it was to run out and greet dad coming home or something of that sort.

My kids have always loved being nudey. Our backyard is fenced with privacy fencing so they can be naked there if they want too. We all go for a nude swim in our pool before bed to cool off. In public though even in our small village, they are dressed, at least in a sun dress over their one piece bathing suits. Riley is 18 months and I don't really care if he is naked at the public beach etc. or a friends yard. But everyone else is covered up unless in our backyard with just family.
Ooo.. and when we're camping in an isolated spot, it's fun to walk around in nature with nothing on at all. I miss that kind of back country camping.

There have been times where my kids were outside and we decided to turn on the sprinkler or something, so they just stripped down to their undies and ran through it - but for the most part they wear clothes. We have days in the summer where it gets just as hot as anywhere else, and we still wear clothes.

I will not let my kids out in just undies and it is because of pedophiles! With the prevalence of camera phones and the like I really do not want photos of my half naked kids posted on the internet as kiddy porn by some stranger that happens to walking past.

And yes, JuLeah, I have done my research on pedophiles - they ALWAYS look for the easiest targets. My personal opinion is that letting your child play in public half naked is sending a message that as a parent you do not care about your child's bodily integrity. And that is NOT the message I want to send to a predator who is looking for the easiest target in the herd.

NOTE: I did say in PUBLIC. My kids run around outside half naked or fully naked in the backyard when we are out there in summer with the pool. BUT it is a fully fenced, private back yard. No one is seeing those naked kids but me and my hubby, I will NOT even let them be half naked or naked in front of any 'guest', no matter how close a friend or family member they are. I just think it sends the wrong message - just call me Miss Paranoid.

I like for her to have on a shirt and panties at the very least. I'd love if I could make her get fully dressed, shoes included, every time she ran outside. I just have to laugh when I send her outside in her bathing suit (to play in the sprinkler). Then she comes in butt naked, because she decided to pee outside and had to take her bathing suit completely off in order to do so. I pick my battles.

I feel at home anything goes, but if you order pizza put clothes on the kids! My hubby delivered for a while and he was so disturbed to see naked kids answering the door! Few being girls upwards of 9-10 years old, he hated it.
Personally we want our daughter to wear shirts as much as possible, I feel it's for her benefit to not be exposed even as a baby. But we won't let a feeling of shame get into her mind. Anyways, backyard would be ok IMO if it's fenced in and not visible to neighbors, but I bet there's few like that!

JuLeah, I didn't say that I was worried about pedophiles. Actually I said the opposite. I do understand the crime. What I was saying is that I don't allow my daughter to go outside without any cloths on because that is how I was raised. If we went outside, we were fully clothed. We weren't allowed to run around with nothing but panties on. We had on cloths and sometimes shoes.

honestly i would be way more consernd on the fact crildren get burned so easy they should have clothes on just for that fact alone. the hotter it is the more covered they should be. and yeah i was raised in the back country where the little boys ran with out even a diaper on lol. so in that aspect no it really wouldnt bother me.

I dont see it a big deal, my little guys live in there undies and diapers in the house and yes my oldest has gone out to look at something in his undies. Where I live in Arizona it is too hot but when we go out I do put clothes on them.

My kids play outside naked all the time. Usually butt naked. Last summer i got sick of the constant arguments to try and get them to at least keep underwear on so i gave up. But in saying that when we leave the house we are all fully dressed. I say all because during summer i'm known to join my kids in being naked although i always keep underwear on and i stay inside.

When Paige was a baby she'd wear a diaper and a tank out on hot days. And the other day I let her run around the splash park fountain in her tunic and panties (longer shirt so it covered her bum), since I promised she could play but forgot her bathing suit. And that's it, except for inside the home.

Lacey .... lack of education about pedophiles is what puts our kids in danger. Small children are not sexually attractive to anyone, regardless of what they wear or don't. Pedophilia has nothing, let me repeat, nothing to do with sex. Rape is about power and control. They go after chidlren, the very old, folks with disabilities simply because they make easier targets. A child running around in her udnerwear, or even naked does not make her a target. Parents who think it is about sex and fear the strange man jumping out of the bushes to grab their kid, willing put them in danger by leaving them with clean cut, tie wearing, Uncle Tommy for a few hours.
To protect our kids we need to understand the crime, the pattrens, and the people who abuse. Kids are far more likely to be abused by a family member. It is not about money, religion, skin color, sexual onientation or any other box. Most pedophiles are het white guys, most are protected by families that choose not to see, and most abuse 80-100 chidlren before they are caught for the first time. So, the folks in your neighborhood on the sexual offender list are not even the ones you need to watch out for.
The Gift of Fear, and Protecting the Gift are two books I suggest every parent read ... they will help keep you safe.

It depends on where I am at and what I am doing. My parents live in the middle of the woods, no neighbors. My daughter runs around outside in her underwear and we don't think anything of it. I have a bunch of neighbors at my house, so unless we are swimming in our pool, she has clothes on.

I let our son run around naked in the yard when we were in Florida last year. He was playing in the pool and had taken his swimsuit off. My parents live in rural Florida and he was 1.5 years old...not that big of a deal in my opinion. With that being said we live in Seattle and no I would not allow him to be outside without clothing or a swimsuit...the City and the Country…there’s a big difference there.

The summers here in Phoenix are brutal too, Our backyard is fenced and private so my 3 sons and I swim naked in our pool, and we just play games or runaround naked in the backyard.

Where I live in Canada, our summers are brutal... our humidity is so thick you can cut the air with a knife. It is muggy as all get out to the point you can't sweat. Today is 80 F but with all the thunderstorms we've had it might as well be 105 F. Most of our summers are 80-90 F but with humidity that makes Flordians gasp for breath.



We usually spend these days outside with the pool out. I don't know... I've still always just put my kids in swimsuits. Not that I'd be bothered by them hanging out in the back yard in underwear or a diaper. Just what we've always done. *shrug*

My daughter also went a whole year refusing to wear pants, socks, or underwear.

a) at least she would wear tights under her dresses,
and b) can you imagine a whole Canadian winter with no socks???

but she was never cold...not once...her boots STANK though.
