I thought the same thing Sharon, this teen wanted to be hurt, I don't think he had any intention of harming any of the children. Maybe...but I doubt it, I think he was hoping to get shot. If he was being treated for depression and had stopped taking his medication it is possible that he was suffering one of the side effects of stopping his meds without medical supervision. There can be serious side effects including suicidal tendencies and violent thoughts/actions etc. when someone stops their meds suddenly.
I'm certainly not minimizing the terror these parents and kids felt, but honestly this smells like a case of a bad reaction to anti-depressants or the withdrawl of them in ones system.

Sounds very much like a movie I once saw... can't remember the name. A class was taken hostage, but they were allowed to go to the bathroom and the hostage taker allowed food to be brought into the children.
Those poor parents, it makes my feel ill just thinking about it. How helpless would you feel knowing that someone else had your baby and you could do nothing to get them back ?

Of all the hostage takers there are out there, they got the nice one. thank god for small blessings.
I'd be pissed too but as a parent not close to the situation, it seems like the teen was crying out for help, wanted to hurt themselves, maybe death by cop type of thing, rather than hurt others.

I cannot even begin to imagine what those children and their families went through. :(

That's horrible, there are some truly awful people in the world. Those poor families, must have been very traumatic.

I don't think there could EVER been a reason good enough to do something like this...but yea, just because? Sicko. I kinda like the part about the little one that "pretty much escaped." What a smart kid!

OMG why would any one do that? There's no reason given so I'm guessing, for shits and giggles? What a little turd.
