Showering with your child

How old is too old to shower with your child? Same gender, or opposite gender?

I do not shower with my son. When he was an infant, I would bring him in the shower with me to nurse. Around 9-10 months, he just squirmed too much and wanted to play on the tub floor.

He is now 4 1/2, and every now and then he likes to shower. He prefers his baths. He will shower with my husband, but I do not shower with my son. Ironically, nudity is a non-issue in my home. I guess I'm just sending the message that showering is something you do by yourself or with Daddy.

I used to shower with Miles after swimming to rinse the clorine off of both of us...but he seems to be a little leary of the shower, and obviously enjoys his bathtime SO much, that it's never really come up about showering with him...plus...my husband and I shower together quite a bit...so...anyway...

I have showered with all of my kiddos and I still do with my 22mth old. My daughter is 5 and every once and a while I'll shower with her. I give my oldest son the privacy to shower by himself, he's 7.5 so I think he can handle it. My 3.5 yr old showers with me every once and a while but mostly with his sister or brother. I don't see anything wrong with it at young ages. I take cues from my kids on what they're comfortable with, my oldest likes his pivacy so I respect that and when my daughter asks for hers of course she will recieve it.

hahaha yes I've had my son yell out to me cos he's sister has discovered his winky!
I read in a book that it's fine to shower with your kid of the same sex as they have to learn how their body will change & make them feel comfortable with the changes... but then I bathed with my son until he started noticing that I was different to him & daddy.
He still sees me naked & it usually leads to all 'those' questions but I answer him, not going into too much detail as he's only 4! (he thought his sister & I had our winkies cut off when we were born!!!!)
I bathed with my sisters & mum until we all couldn't fit in the bath! It never ever seemed sexual or wrong to anyone, we would have so much fun & wash the walls & ceiling in the process!!

Funny story. When my niece was little (she's 20 now) I lived with my brother and his wife for awhile. She LOVED taking showers with my brother or her mommy or with me on occasion and it was no big deal. Then one night my brother and her were in the shower like always and there was this GOD AWFUL scream from the bathroom. Followed by "TRUUUUUDIEEEEEEEEE!!!! COME GET YOUR DAUGHTER!!!) Apparently, she discovered his junk and gave it a yank. Needless to say, it was the last time my brother ever showered with his daughter lol

Until just recently I'd let my now 5yr old shower with me. But now not comfortable with him in the shower with me. He likes to take a show and does so by himself. I don't even like to have him in the same room when I'm getting dress. He is just at that age now.

I had to shower Lucas when we were on holiday a few weeks ago as there was no bath. A wet wriggly baby is not easy to keep hold of ! I'll stick with putting him in the bath and keep my showers for myself!

dave showers with cammy after they've been swimming, and they've had a bath together once, but in my opinion bath is me time, not for cam to splash and pee in the water! and showers he enjoys but not very relaxin xxx

I've never done that with my kids. Well, I think once when my oldest daughter was two, I tossed her in as I was just finishing up my bath. I am just not comfortable with that. Under age 2 I would think is fine, but even that age I'm a little leery of. My son tells me all the time about stuff he remembers when he was 2. I don't want him remembering that! LOL ;)

P.S. Steve doesn't shower with Jacob. He is a "morning shower person" and it would make no sense to clean the boy and then let him spend all day getting sticky and dirty lol But I'm sure if Steve showered at night, he would shower with Jacob...until that first time Jacob tugged on "something" lol!

I shower with Jacob (21 months) all the time. From the time he could sit well on his own, I started putting him in with me at the foot of the tub with some bath toys. Some days it's just easier to do. Some days I just feel so icky that I have to take a shower and cannot wait for Steve to get home. I'm also into saving water so this helps some. He likes the shower, but he also takes baths by himself about 4 days out of the week. It just all depends on whatever's convenient and how badly I need to scrub my butt lol! Esther, I haven't had the "poop on the floor" experience yet, but he has peed on the carpet so I always leave him in the tub while I dry myself quickly and then he gets dried and a diaper asap lol!

I shower with my son all the time and so does my husband. He likes the bath too, but the shower is often quicker and more convenient for us as we can get ourselves ready at the same time. We have a bunch of bath toys in there and he sits on the floor and plays with them (filling buckets etc.) while we do our thing and then we give him a quick scrub & wash his hair and we're done. Of course this morning after I had taken my shower with him, I had toweled him off and he was sitting in the bedroom waiting for me to dry myself off & put some underwear on and while he sat there, he pooped on the bedroom floor!! Lovely.

Madeline bathed with me when she was an infant and that was about it. It wasn't that we thought there was something wrong with it, it was done more out of convenience and then it was just easier to let her play in the tub while I fixed my hair in the same room. Then came Cooper...I didn't get in the tub with him because Madeline was a toddler and it was quicker to do them separately. When Cooper got to be about a year old, they started bathing together and did that until Cooper was about 2 and started hating the tub. Now Madeline bathes by herself, I wash her hair. Cooper showers with daddy and I shower by myself. It's just what works best for us. We are constantly adjusting and changing to different circumstances but nudity hasn't really been an issue in our household, so that's not what we base things on. Although daddy showers with Cooper, That's the only time he's exposed around the kids at all. He feels more comfortable being covered. I, on the other hand, don't have much choice. I don't choose to parade myself around the house in the nude but everyone seems to be in my room with me whenever I'm changing or anything that once required privacy! Oh the joys of motherhood!

I tried to have a shower with my eldest when she was a baby (we didn't have a bath!) and i nearly dropped her.....so that was the end of my showering with the baby experiment!

By the time we moved somewhere with a bath, she liked having the bath all to herself!

When Shia came along there was definately no room for in the bath too!

Besides, having a shower is one of the few things i get to do by myself! haha! :)
