Silly Debate.....For Kicks & Giggles

You've never been swept away by a Disney movie? I for one get all dreamy when watching the Little Mermaid. I may have dissected the various sociological problems with Disney films in a Woman's Studies course I once took, but that doesn't stop me from getting all swept up by Ariel & the Prince rowing under the willow tree. And that movie is aimed at 8 year olds. I suppose you'd think that I am acting like a child?
I don't see very many women in this thread professing a crush on those boys. Most either love the romance of the series or couldn't care less about it. I'm in the "couldn't care less" camp, but I understand the appeal. Although I've never been into vampires, I do love cowboys and aliens (not together, lol). Life without fantasy is very dull.

LOL Carol.. I'm the same way with Disney films, if that makes you feel better :) I think most women like that romance, even if it is just a fairy tale. There's just something about it that is a nice escape no matter what age you are.. And if you think you're 'too old' for it, then you clearly don't know how to take a step back and enjoy the simpler things.

Obviously the whole " Silly Debate.....For Kicks & Giggles" theme and the implied joke of it all went over your head then , no one is seriously wetting their pants over these teen heartthrobs , although some of us thoroughly enjoyed the books ( you dont have to be a teen to enjoy a love story ) we are all just having a laugh at the expense of the twilight hype .
Buuuuuut if we are being serious , then yes that is precisely why i love trueblood and not twilight , hot , sexy , dangerous MEN mostly naked and you will be happy to know its aimed at adults that's why its rated R .............

I've only seen the first one. I keep meaning to watch the 2nd one with our oldest but always forget. LOL! I really don't have an opinion either way, not until I watch the second one at least.
Elisabeth, You do realize you are two years younger than the lead actor correct? Just because they play teenagers doesn't mean they are teenagers. Though the one who plays Jacob is 18, so maybe cougaresque? Not so much but close I suppose. LOL!
I like the Harry Potter series too and Lord of the Rings and Forgotten Realms (D&D) and Discworld and a bunch of others that would label me nerd. LOL!!

Hmmm... this "debate" has sure turned into something completely different altogether... Oiy...
As for the ORIGINAL intent of the debate - has anyone seen the new Twilight movie yet? I heard it was pretty good, but that's the opinion of one of my gay friends who is totally in LOVE with Taylor Lautner! LOL :D

La la la la...... moving on...
Also, Dana, I think their accents just make it seem even more comedic.. :P
I guess I'll just have to stick with Vampire Diaries, it is, after all, aimed at people my age. Because we shouldn't like anything not aimed at us, right? ;) (Disclaimer: That was a joke.)
Just another note. I completely agree that Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley are GORGEOUS!
Ya, there's DEFINITELY some comedy/bad acting thrown in....I'm not sure if it's intentional or not but now I'm hooked....GAH! I'm all caught up and just finished watching the most recent episode this afternoon while Roxanne was napping. I really like Eric....he's growing on me! mmmm....

Dana, just saw your posts about True Blood acting now.. I didn't notice a second page. :S (Must be my young, immature carelessness setting in!! lmao.)
Gotta say that I TOTALLY agree. It seems totally comedic, like the show is a joke. :S I don't know if that's on purpose or.... ??
ANY WHO! Just a little FYI for the Twilight/True Blood fans.. Stephen Moyer and Peter Facinelli are going to be here when Regis and Kelly are here. Just sayin'.

I am sorta glad I'm not watching True Blood, but I am sad that I'm missing out The Tudors.. God I have been in lust with Jonathon Rhys Meyer since I saw Bend It Like Beckham.
LOL he's not my body type at all! But there is something about those lips, hips.. geeze....

I tried watching an episode of True Blood and I couldn't get through it... :( Very disappointed, as I wanted to get in on all the hype, but I just couldn't take it seriously. I don't know what it is about it.
I will say though, that there was a very good looking guy on it, I just don't know who it was. :S

Except for the twin twats posting here, this has been funny as hell post!
On the subject of immature enthusiasms... I LOVE Warriors - don't bother to go look it up, its a middle school series about territorial feral cats. Its more entertaining than it sounds.
AND, lol, I never watched the lestat movie, I simply adored him/his character from reading the books.
I suppose the whole sexual tension between a fully clothed Bella/Edward, and Bella/Jacob constitutes porn? Even in Breaking Dawn, the 'sex' scenes were poorly written IMO, but I also know the target age was for someone much younger and the sex scenes were more implied as opposed to blatently written. Perhaps that was the porn? Anyway, that was funny.
Sorry ladies, I was gone for the day. I'm 37, put I often get complimented that I look younger. It's flattering! I admit, the boob job helps with looking young ;-)
I am going to start the Anita Blake series in September, cause I have to get ready for teaching. I'll out the first 2-3 books on my list for the library.

Sharon, I read the first book in the Anita Blake series and it was great! A friend of mine has two wall units of vamp books, movies, magazines lent it to me.
Just found out she has True Blood Seasons 1&2, so far I've only seen the very last episode of Season 2 and the first two of Season Three. Time to catch up!

Hey! I'm 33 too. We are the best, obviously ;-P I also like being told to "grow up". It's a nice change of pace. My husband is 7 years older than me and the way he behaves, I get tired of feeling like the "adult" in the house. And my best friend is 9 years older than me and the way she behaves... well, let's just say that she still thinks she's 21. So I'd LOVE to be the immature, silly one for once. They can come down to the beach and pull me in from a sand shelf after the tide has come in too far to walk back to the shore & I didn't notice because I'd had too many beers (I have done this twice, once for each the husband & the best friend). Next year, my turn!
And hey! Anyone else here a Trekkie or am I the only loser??

I find the words "grow up" when directed at me these days are a total compliment :) Given I am over 40, I pretty much figure that if I want to act like I'm 15, that's my perogative - there has to be some advantage to getting older :P
Yes, I vaguely recall a conversation we had about our age...I really don't feel old but it sorta hits me when I'm talking to someone who's MUCH younger than me and they have children....I still see myself in my early 20's! Haha.....at least that's how I act! ;)
Dana, yes, I am certain you are younger than me ;-)
Cathy, you will LOVE BDB and book one does start off slowly and it takes awhile to get into the book. But, I promise you that you will just LOVE the series. Book 3 is still my favorite out of all 8 books.
Oh! The Anita Blake series is next on my reading list! I already read through JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood steamy series, and the first 12 books of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series, up to Acheron. I need to actually take a break from personal reading to prepare myself for teaching 9th grade English and read the novels I will be teaching, but then once I get back on board of vamp smut, it's the Anita Blake series! Can't wait!
Perhaps it's just me, but I cannot stand The tv show of The Vampire Diaries. I loved the books so much, and I know the target age is high school. Am I just too OLD?! The TV show-well I just couldn't get into it. But yes, Ian Somerhalder IS a good-looking and attractive actor/model! Nothing wrong with saying that!
Ok, I'm almost all caught up on True Blood and I have to say is, it's strange....the acting is bad or am I just in some strange parallel universe? I dunno?!! I like the vampire bits but they're few and far between....what was the deal with that Maryann crazy mythical bullhorn lady? lmao. Anyhow....I'm officially hooked on it.....it's got this weird 'pull' on me! Haha! Like a bad train wreck...
Just for the record, I still like Vampire Diaries WAY better and can't wait for it to come back on. I like their portrayal of vampires much better and the acting is 10X better, IMO, of course!
