Similac recall, would you switch?

Considering Similac was the ONLY formula they tried my son on that didn't make him projectile vomit everywhere, I wouldn't switch brands. I would have sent in all the recalled cans if I had any with matching manufacturing numbers, but I wouldn't switch. If you think about it, sooner or later, pretty much every brand is going to be recalled for one reason or another.



Graco recalled certain strollers when my friend had her baby. Instead of getting the stroller she REALLY wanted, that had NOT been recalled, she chose something else. Simply b/c the stroller was Graco, she didn't want it- even though it wasn't the make or model that had been recalled. She instead went to Evenflo, who has in recent past also recalled products.



My point.. No matter what we buy, it will either have been recalled in recent history or will most likely be recalled in the future. As long as it doesn't harm your baby, keep doing what you gotta do..

I've never used formula, but no, I don't think I would've switched over that. But then, I've done and eaten a lot of things that would make most people who grew up in North America gag! :) We had to sift all our flour in Africa, because it would get worms and other bugs and bug larvae in it. Even with sifting, I'm sure we still ingested some! I can remember biting into a piece of baguette to find it full of ants. And I've eaten flying termites and crickets on purpose. (they're actually not that bad!) So I'm not too easily grossed out by stuff like that!
The melamine thing from a few years back on the other hand, that would've made me switch!

Well, as long as it wasn't toxic or poisonous, I don't think it's a big deal. I hated giving my daughter formula (she had Similac). I might have felt better if I'd thought that there was some natural stuff in it, lol.

Awesome, shouldn't have opened this while eating. What was once forgotten is now in the forefront of my mind again. =/

I wouldn't have switched though. I would have sent in any recalled cans but not switched brands because of it.

Mmmm bug legs....delicious! Yeah anyway, my son had about 1/2 a container left of his Similac Go & Grow formula when I found out it was recalled. I was in the process of weaning him onto whole milk (he is almost 12.5 months old) so fortunately the recall didn't really affect us too badly. I had a sample of Enfagrow or however it's spelled (Enfamil for toddlers), so I ended up using a little bit of that for a day or two until I had completely weaned him onto whole milk.

If my son was still on formula, I'd probably use a different formula for the time being until I felt confident that the issue had been resolved. I'd be a little more concerned if my son was a newborn. Newborns little tummies are a lot more sensitive than older babies. But considering my son is 12 months, I'm sure he's already eaten some bugs off the floor haha.

Eeeew. Can you imagine if you were scooping out formula and this big, ugly beetle leg was just sticking out of the powder?? Yuck!

At first I thought the recall was for something serious...then I heard the truth. It was kinda gross but unless it was something that was going to harm my child I'd probably keep using it. I think I might sift my formula though...just to make sure I didn't find any bug pieces. *gag*

Yea, but it's still gross. I wouldn't want to feed my newborn beetle bits. But then again I breastfeed so its a non-issue for me.
