Surrogate Mom Paid Extra to Provide Breastmilk?

Is a surrogate's job done after the baby is delivered? I know that a majority of surrogate cases go through some kind of contract. What if the couple desiring the baby adds extra money to her fee for providing expressed breastmilk? What if the surrogate, for whatever reasons, does not wish to pump at all. Perhaps it was a bad expereince being a surrogate. Do you think adding nursing to a surrogate's contract is fair? And for how long? 6 weeks? 12 weeks? 4 months? Would this be a negotiable part of the contract?

Just something different to throw out there.

Sure if the contract is mutually acceptable between all parties than why not?
In the event that pumping proves too difficult or the surrogate is suffering from ppd or any other reason she finds that she can't or does not want to continue that part of the contract should be left to her discretion.
Any form of contract that would force her regardless of her feelings to continue to pump would be very very wrong and kind of weird.I picture a woman hooked up to a milking machine against her will.

I was thinking about this topic after a conversation with a gay frined, who was telling me about a gay couple who is in the beginning stages of seeking a surrogate. This couple is leaning towards Partner A's cousin with Partner B's sperm. Or something along the lines of that. I have not actively sought any legal cases on this issue of breastmilk after surrogacy. Just thought it was interesting.

They can add whatever they want to in the contract BEFORE the surrogate gets pregnant and it's up to her if she agrees or not. If she signs the contract then, yes. However, I do not think that it would be right (or wise) to have her actually breastfeed the baby if pumping did not work out for whatever reason.

I'm coming at that view from the point that I could never be a surrogate cuz it would just about kill me to give up any baby.... whether it was biologically mine or not. If the woman didn't feel the same it may be entirely different for her.

If the family wants it as a part of the surrogacy then they should be able to put it in the contract. You don't HAVE to become a surrogate if you don't want to. However, if you sign a contract you should be forced to uphold your end of it.

My friend is a surrogate, she actually just had the baby 2 weeks ago. But the mom didn't want the breastmilk for some reason. But she's pumping anyway and is going to donate it.

But I think it's something that the parents should discuss with the surrogate first before they even begin the shots.

hmm, interesting. i think in the contract it should state that if it becomes something the surrogate wishes to stop it should be at her discretion.

Eh - she's free to turn it down.

It takes a special person to be a surrogate, I think if they were doing this magical gift them the issue of BM donation wouldn't be an issue. Just another negotiable part of the whole surrogacy. Maybe it would more likely happen if the surrogate was family. I think I would do it for family. But a stranger...probably not.
