Tattoos or Bodypiercings... do you have any?

I ordered our Halloween costumes and I was really excited to get mine... It's a black dress with bell sleeves and a plunging neckline... a lil' sexy and totally perfect for a variety of costumes (vampire, witch, sorceress, etc).
Well I run in my room to try it and dammit (!!), it shows off my tattoo on my boob. I got this damn tat when I was 17 and I HATE HATE HATE it!! UGH. Every time I look at it, I am just reminded of how stupid I was at 17. I think it's ugly (it's a rose design) and I have wanted it removed for years. I always alter clothing or opt for more conservative tops in order to hide it and now that I have children, I am even more aware of it.
I am so bothered by this that I am considering ordering some special camouflage make up so I can hide it when I want to wear low cut tops. My best friend gives me crap about it and jokes that my rose is turning into a "long stem rose" as I get older and my boobs sag. We joke about it, but I do really worry about that!!! LOL
I always advise my friends to really think about it before getting tats or piercings so they don't regret the decision like I do.
Your experiences???

I used to dance Tahitian back in 1997. A group of friends, which were also dancers decided to get tattoos. Because we wore our Padeos really low on our waist we each got a tat on our lower backs. This was before tattoos on your lower back was popular and way before it was called "the tramp stamp". Now I feel so embarressed when other people see my tattoo. .I would love to have it removed but I'm kinda scared about the procedure. Has anyone ever had a tattoo removed before???

I have a large Monarch butterfly and vine tramp stamp on my lower back. I've had it for 10 years and still love it. My next will be a large cherry blossom tree across my shoulder blades. Really creepy dark B&W tree with beautiful vibrant blossoms. I also want some sort of pinup girl.

I only have two earrings now. I've had my nose, belly button, labret and random ear piercings over the years. I'm going to get a tiny diamond in my nose again soon I think.

My partner has two hoops in each ear and no tattoos. I'm trying to get him to get one though, I think they're hot! He wanted a blue goat on his calf or a Harley Davidson with the profile of a curvy woman riding it.

This may sound wierd  but how did you --do you get the nerve up to get your nose done , My Husband wants me to get a little silver stud in my nose  but my eyes water if I just bang it or anything ? is it like getting ear piercing  which hurts for like a second or is it worse .  I know every one has a different  tolerence for  pain . I do have a high tolerence for it  (my nose is more sensitive from having it dislocated at one point )  but I was just looking for advise in this because  I am thinking about it.    Thanks

I gave Birth twice my first epaderal (sorry if spelt wrong) second son I was too late for any Med. so he was totaly Natural. My husband laughs at that he says you got through Natural Child Birth thats Exteremly Painful and yet your afraid to get a Tattoo because of the needle. I am like YA!!

I hear it all depends on where you get it done. Mine is on my left boob and it didn't hurt at all... I am assuming because its all fatty tissue... I do have a very high pain tolerance anyway. LOL

I was thinking about my lower leg above my ankle, or my upper arm.

IDK? I have 1 tattoo that as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted it on me! Unfortunately I picked the wrong day of the year and the wrong guy to do it so there are a few things about it I'm not too fond of, but that doesn't make me regret doing it, or wish I didn't have it... It took me years to do it so the next one sure won't be coming anytime soon, I just can't decide exactly what i want and how i want to portray it??? I also have 2 piercings in ea. ear and my tongue done, I want to get a 2nd hole in my tongue but my husband isn't too keen on the idea? I have a friend that has his penis pierced and he is NOT AT ALL in regret for doing so! He is all too proud of that one! I saw an older gentlemen with his lower arms covered in tats and they looked AWESOME! I asked him when he got it done because I'd have figured @ his age they would have faded and looked like sh!t... he said he'd had them touched up a few yrs back, made perfect sense!

i have a collection of tattoo designs I've drawn over the years..like a male and female mermaid kissing that i wanted on my lower back and a mother and baby fairy design i did after i had my daughter..but I'm too much of a wuss to get a tattoo. I have no tattoos or piercings..i don't like pain and i change my mind and environment around a lot so i always worry about the permanency of a tattoo.
Loureen your sleeve tat idea is so cool! i have a mate who had to wait two years to get in and have his sleeve done buy this awesome artist, cant remember his name..the guy was fully booked years in advance.

The sound of tattoo'ing doesn't bother me in the slightest except the slight annoyance of bzzzzzzzz, like a fly or a bee HAHA

I do completely get what you mean, my brother told me the sound of the tatguns bzzzin always got his adrenaline pumped up and it got him psyched up to get the tat and the pain is like a release - like meditating! I know quite a few people who get the same pleasure from the pain of tats!

lol i scrapbook as well at get tattoos/piercings!
anyways, I have 7 tattoos and i had 17 piercings
my tats include (all in greyscale): 3 lip prints on my foot, which are the actual lip prints of my 3 best friends/bridesmaids), a lotus with and ohm symbol on my calf with some sanskrit underneath meaning "i attract she who is dark and powerful", a traditional gypsy head on my upper thigh (this is the only tattoo i have that DOESN"T have meaning to me lol, dh is a tattoo artist and wanted to do a show piece, but i still love it!), the sanskirt word anahata (meaning unbeaten) on my wrist, a large sad fairy on my back, stars going all up around my hairline and behind my ears ending in front of my ears, and last (but certainly not least!) i have the word "poison" tattooed on the inside of my bottom lip :)
as for piercings, most of them have been retired (eyebrow, lip (twice) nipple, bellybutton)
I still have all the ones in my ears (along with 0g plugs, of which don't require surgery to fix unless you go higher than a 00g fyi) and two in my nose (both on the right side, a tiny little hoop and then a little diamond)
i am planning to get some dermal anchors near my eyes/eyebrow area (for those of you who don't know, those are little peircings with a flat edge that go under the skin, and show only one ball on top of the skin, same as Loureen's skin divers) and i also want a vertical labret, and my dh wants me to get my nipples done again lol
i also foresee many more tattoos in my future as well!

oh and this is kinda off topic, but someone mentioned having your tattoos at your wedding so i have a quick story. at my wedding there were bride and groom, minister, and 5 maids and grooms each. the only one who didn't have a tattoo was my sister (because she was only 17 at the time). even our minister had tattoos! lol, and there were three tattoo artists on the grooms side :) best wedding party ever!

Ohhh- I love scrapbooking too! I have plenty of hobbies and tattoos just happen to be one of them!
There is a differnence between people who pierce and tattoo stricktly for attention--- example the girl who flashes her nipple and proudly states her bf has his wanker pierced AND the type of people who love ideals and histories behind this form of art.

To each their own!

I wasn't going to say anything, but I cannot resist stirring the pot - this is debating moms, is it not? But before I give my honest opinion, I will say that I totally, unequivocally support each and every person's right to freedom of expression as long as it does not harm anyone else. Okay: I hate them. I think they are garish, juvenile and grotesque. My only exception is for combat veterans - I think if a unit has a shared experience (life-threatening, harrowing ordeals) they have earned the right to inject their flesh with ink. I also extend this exemption to tribes still living tradional lives in the deepest recesses of the Amazon jungle. All the rest of you need to take up a hobby - may I suggest scrapbooking as a way of preserving those precious memories?? Don't even get me started on piercings - I once met a guy who had his penis pierced. No, no, get your mind's out of the gutter - it was in a bar, and his girlfriend confirmed it, and the topic came up because the two of them were very hole-y and she was quite proudly displaying her pierced nipple. Now Sharon, before you start going on about the class of people I associate with, they were co-workers of a friend of mine. At any rate, enough wine had been drunk that I asked him if it hurt and if he regretted it - yes and yes. Enough said.

My ears are pierced(left ear has 5 holes and right ear has 3) but I only where earrings in the first 2 holes of each ear. My belly button is also pierced, but I am not they type of person to show it off. Most people don't even know I have it done.

Sarah-- So many people have made comments to me about having tattoos and OH NO possibly showing them on my wedding day. I don't get it. When you get a tattoo they become a part of you (like you said) and I find it soooo crazy that people..aka my mother and MIL want me to cover them up. I would look like a friggin nun on my wedding day if I covered them all!

I have 5 earrings on each side, Monroe, Labret, and one nipple. My monroe and labret are the smallest little diamonds even my grandmothers have told me they like it!!

I recently took out my nose piercings--I had 2 hoops on the right side. I have also had my belly button and the tops of my ears done--also now out.

I have tons of tattoos! Both my feet are totally done with stars and flowers, my inside right leg has a shooting star down it, under my belly button I had stars that wrap around from side to side---I say had because post-baby they look more like a blobs now...when your 15 you don't think about having babies!

On the back of my neck there is the greek word for eleven, I have a tribal butterfly from shoulder to shoulder, Mollys name and birthdate are written on my left inside wrist, and I have a huge blue lily flower on my right shoulder wrapping around the frount of my arm. I'm in the process of having a half sleeve disigned for me that will connected with the lily and go just past my elbow---I'm soooo excited!!
Tattooing is a huge part of my lifestyle :) and like Loureen I also get a huge rush when I hear that "BUZZZZZZZ". I know another part of my life is being written on my skin.

LOL Loureen! I have a girlfriend that has a tatoo of a dolphin on her boob and she HATES it too. She got it when she was 16. Now, she's a doctor and always wears things to cover it up so that her patients and students won't notice. You're totally right, when you're that young you're not thinking about how you'll feel about it in 10-15 years!

I have two tattoos, both on my back. One, I got when I was 18 and going thought my female empowerment stage, it's a Chinese character that means "Woman"...the other one is just a design, but my best friend who lives in NYC and I got them together and they match, so we can always be together. I don't mind my tattoos because they mean something to me and remind me of great times in my life, but I"m seriously thinking about getting the "woman" one reworked to be a little cooler. I also had my tongue pierced when I was 18...I only kept it in for a couple of years, but I was afraid I'd chip a tooth on it or something.

My 18 year old niece just got a tattoo that is across her collar bone on her chest that says, in very pretty scroll, "Watch me rise". I dont' really get it, and personally, she'll regret it later I think. I can't imagine it's going to look good when she's 60 with wrinkled skin. Gotta think about that kind of stuff!

I've got 5 tattoos (one on my boob! lol!) and they were all spur of the moment, no real thought went into them (except one which is memory of my Grandad).
Although they're not amazing pieces of artwork or anything....i LOVE them all!
Looking at them reminds me of the time i had them done.....who i went with etc.
It's like a little trip down memory lane everytime i see them.
I can cover them all up if i want to, but on my wedding day for example, some were on show and it didn't bother me, because they are part of who i was and part of who i am!
People have said, 'oh when you're old and wrinkly they'll look terrible!' but i seriously doubt i will be wearing low cut tops and stuff when i'm 80!!
Plus, when i AM 80, i'm gonna look at my wrinkly, shrivelled, tattoos and think 'WOW i had some good times when i was younger!!'
:)

Old people with tatts didnt have the technology in inks or the artistry we have these days .

Inks used these days are built to wear , the tattoo industry and their tools have come a long way , i think people also know how to keep their skin in tact through education on skin awareness , suncream ect . not just for preservation of skin and prevention of cancer but to have respect for the art work we have chosen to be on our bodies for the rest of our lives .

Tattoos are the most personal form of self expression out there it is litterally wearing your heart on your sleeve !!

I've never seen or thought of an image or words that I would want permanently tattooed on my body. So I haven't gotten one. If I found something that I was sure would speak to me until the end of my days, I'd do it, but it seems unlikely. I do admire many tattoos I have seen though. Some are quite beautiful. And others just make me wonder if they already regret it.

I have had a 3 piercings, in areas that can not be seen with my clothes on. The only piercings I still have are the only two that were visible, my ears. I too got bored with the piercings and didn't want the continued work of maintaining them. I've always wanted a belly ring, and if I ever get flat abs, I plan to get one. But after having a child, that seems highly unlikely, LOL.

I'm a wimp. I have my ears pierced and used to have piercings right above the original hole and my cartlidge pierced. I used to want my belly button pierced but just never did and now I feel like I'm too old to have one. I love tattoos but have never known one to get that I wouldn't want in years to come. Josh has 5 tattoos and I think they are pretty sexy. But I'll probably never get one because I wouldn't want one I couldn't cover if needed and I's hate to regulate my clothing around that.....

LMAO Sharon! It's funny that you mentioned the spider web tattoo because when I got my tattoo, I went with my friend Carole and she got a black widow spider and web on her hip while I did the rose on my boob.
Now, I should explain how STUPID I was at 17... obviously getting a tattoo at 17 isn't legal without parental consent in the US. My friend at work was dating a tattoo artist and he said he would do them for us at his house. So Carole and I went to his house for these tats and the guy was totally stoned out of his mind. But being a stupid 17 year old, I let the guy work on me anyway. Now my tat is alright. Technically there is nothing wrong with it... but Carole's on the other hand... LMAO her "black widow spider" somehow transformed into a strange looking rainbow spider on a web... hahahaha

No, not tats for me.

There is some amazing artwork out there but I prefer to be able to change up my accessories. And like you point out, watching the tats, fade, shrivel or drag out as time & gravity wear on our bodies - sucks.

I was hanging out in tombstone and saw this really WEATHERED old woman - she had a black mass on her neck, I was standing in line and I just kept staring it, wtf was that thing? Why didn't she get it removed? It was a spider web tat all folded up with her crinkly skin. I sort laughed but choked it back and wound up spraying spit and I turned into a choking thing so the entire store was staring at me.

Honestly it looked like skin cancer gone bad.

I haven't seen many old people with nice tats. Maybe they considered that and don't care. Its not my body, its not my call. But it influenced my decision for myself.

I got 5. All except one was designed by myself. I'm currently working on one for a friend. I am thinking of another one for myself to symbolise my children. Probley two butterflys and a dragon fly with flowers. Not sure where yet. That has to be figured out for the amount of detail that I can have for it.

If you have a tatt that you no longer want. Well I was going to say that you can use a removal cream but say a clip from the Mayo clinic that say they don't work all that well. So the only thing besides the laser removal is you can talk to a really good artist and have him/her do a tattoo over it of something that you would like.

I think they are attractive and very discreet, but I have heard of people being fired and things for getting piercings... the one that stands out was one about a girl that got a very tiny diamond nose stud. Her employer deemed it was "extreme" jewelry and against their dress code so she ended up losing her job of two years because she refused to remove it. Later, she did remove it and tried to get the position back, but it was too late. They said there were too many hurt feelings over the incident and she was not welcome back.

Quoting Brenda:

I also forgot to mention, that I thought about getting a small nose piercing because so many of them are just tiny and delicate looking. I would want like a tiny diamond stud or something, but I most likely won't act on it because I am unsure how it would affect me getting a job and things like that when I finish school. I also worry that I would regret it later, but at least with a tiny piercing like that, it would most likely close up.
I will admit that I cringe when I see the plug piercings in the ears and peoples face. I mean, you would need surgery to correct that later. OUCH! Just looks painful.

Nose piercings grow back up super-quickly. I won't get mine pierced again until I see if I'm going to work in a place where it is acceptable because taking it out during the day would be too long. I would still have mine, but I had to take it out because I had preeclampsia and they started me on the magnesium and were worried about an emergency section, so it was out for 3 days while I recovered enough to remember it and by then it was too late. I loved it; it was different but nonobtrusive.  I just don't want to spend the money only to have to take it back out.

My husband got his first tattoo when he was 41, and it is a quote from W.B.Yeats. He thought it through and has no regrets.

I made him (not really) get his ear pierced about 10 years ago. He told me he wanted his hair cut really short like Bruce Willis'. I said fine, but I want you to have an earring if you are going to be practically bald! So he did.

I want a tattoo. I don't want to pay for the tattoo that I want because I know it is going to cost a small fortune and with teenagers...I'm broke.

My daughter (18) just got an industrial piercing in her ear...I'm just so glad it is not her face, she has a beautiful face.

I have two tattoos, and I love them intensely. I thought about each of them for a long time before getting them, though, and each of them has a very personal meaning.

I have the Chinese symbol for peace (Yes, I had a Chinese friend draw it up so I know that's what it is-not "oops" or "shithead" or something. lol) on my hip. I got it when I was 19, and I got it because I believe in peace and harmony above all else-in living a happy and peaceful life because it's the only one we have.

I also have a phoenix with the words "carpe diem" on my foot. I got this one when I was 23. I have been through the wringer in a lot of ways, and I wanted something that would symbolize my ability to rise above those experiences, as well as the ones I've caused from sheer stupidity. I chose the phoenix because it burns brightly, dies, and is reborn-every day is new-and I chose the words because I want to sieze that every day is a new day factor. It means even more to me now than when I got it, because a very good friend of mine's mom passed away from breast cancer before she could get a tattoo, and what she wanted was a phoenix.

I had a nose ring until I had my C-section, but I was in the hospital so long before and after that it grew up before I could put it back in. I miss it intensely, but I'm about to move on from college life to the professional world, and I'm going to see what type of job I get before I spend money getting it re-pierced.

I'm terribly sorry you regret yours. I hear that from a lot of people, but I can't imagine not wanting mine.
