teenagers "grinding" at school dances

I taught middle schoolers...grinding is not innocent and we did not allow it. Having a 12 year old girl bend over and 13 year old boy grinding his penis into her ass is not in any way appropriate. Most of the time hands start wandering and fonding starts happening. It is school dance not a friggin party and the school does have to uphold standards concerning appropriate behavior.

Really? When I was in HS it was already banned where I went. LMAO!

Like it or not, it is sexual. Teenagers are thinking about how "hot" it is and how much it turns them on. It is not appropriate. Which I now realize as a parent and am not full of raging hormones. LOL!

That being said I know there is a group of us who will never forget the teacher who got up on the stage, took the mic from the DJ to reprimand two students. "Stop dry humping and actually try to dance." ROFL!!

I was a teen once who grinded on the dancfloor , moshed in the pit and dnaced all girly with my girlfriends , dancing is primal what comes out of your body just comes out and if your throw a bunch of hormonal boys and girls in a room and play music its bound to happen naturally .

I have taught middle school for 14 years and chaperoned way too many dances. In fact, only last night was the delayed "Valentine's Day Dance". No, grinding on the dance floor at a school function is NOT appropriate! We don't let our kids think it's acceptable to exhibit sexualized behavior, even if they don't actually engage in sexual activity. It's down right gross actually. As a school community, we don't let our kids make out and suck all over each other during the school day, enagage in public displays of affection, so why should that behavior be tolerated at a school dance in the evening? We even have the DJ provide a song list in advance to avoid lyrics such as "save a horse, ride a cowboy" and even limit slow dances where hands have been caught under shirts and down pants. Harmless fun to watch 13 year olds grind up against one another?! I don't think so!

I think schools need to have a standard of appropriate behaviour. 'Grinding' or touching/fondling at a school event is not appropriate. It's not that it necessarily leads to more teenagers having sex (though I imagine plenty would 'hook up' after dancing with someone like this), it's just about what is respectable behaviour for underage people. If I saw 14 year olds doing the grind, I would be horrified (let alone if it was my daughter - I would be all over her ass). That is unacceptable, and a school can't possibly be seen as condoning it.

i'm torn on this one. while true there needs to be more morals taught to our children, i'm becoming slack on what is moral, and what isn't. i do not believe that grinding (in my situation) is anything more than good natured fun. it didn't make me go out and sleep with whomever i danced with, and it certainly didn't make me want to.

i do understand that not all children are like me, and quite possibly may want to "do the deed" after grinding. i am also aware that my morals may be different than most peoples. i don't believe that watching violent tv or video games will cause a child to be violent, and i don't think that listening to marilyn manson is going to cause a child to go kill 20 of his classmates. i don't think it contributes to it at all.
