The Apocalypse

[deleted account] ( 42 moms have responded )

My husband works at a facility that cans fruits and vegetables. They have a monthly meeting where they discuss everything from safety issues to production numbers. At this month's meeting, it was noted that the order rates by the different stores they distribute to are on a slow but steady rise. Stores are already seeing an increase in the numbers of non-perishable items that are being purchased. The plant manager also told the employees to expect those rates to increase dramatically in 2011 and 2012, in anticipation for what is sure to be all out craziness as people "prepare" for 12/21/12. So this got me thinking.

I've always been fascinated with any kind of movie or documentary which talks about "end of the world" scenarios. Everything from nuclear war to disease to aliens to zombies. For the record, I absolutely ♥ zombies but don't see it as a realistic event. Although if the zombies do attack, the FB quiz I took last month says I'm 95% likely to survive and rebuild...just sayin' lol! Personally, I think we are more likely to have a catastrophic weather event or disease wipe out a huge chunk of the population. I can totally see either of those things happening, but I don't buy that it can be predicted, and definitely not pinpointed to a specific date. I don't believe the book of Revelation will come to pass and I'm not quite sure how I feel about the Mayan calendar except that I definitely think aliens were involved...but that's a whole other topic. Sooo....

1) Do you believe in the "Apocalypse" as is being talked about happening in the year 2012?

2) Are you preparing for it, or for any other form of "end of the world as we know it" scenario?

3) Do you ♥ zombies as much as I do?

I answered #1 above.

We're preparing for 2012, but only because I don't want to be stuck with no food when the shelves get wiped out because a lot of other people really think it's gonna happen. I do think there will be food shortages in 2012, but only because of panic.

I ♥ zombies a lot and would make an excellent slayer. My FB quiz told me so....

not a zombi fan, i do have my own teenager so that is kind of like living with a zombi!
i kind of think that i;d like to be surprised by the end of the world, and would i like to survive it???not sure, living seems cool, until you realise the only other people alive would be the wierdos who thought it was going to happen, and could you imagine living with the "i told you so's" they'd trow about... and for preperation, no, i will take the advice i heard in 1999, stand near a pokermachine and not and areoplane, if things go crazy i'd like money flying at me and not a plane....

I'm not terribly worried about a zombie invasion. Here's why:

http://www.cracked.com/article_18683_7-s...

I'm not too freaked out about 2012 either. I suspect the Aztec and Mayan calendars ended because they got bored and decided to do something else. Like fight off a Spanish invasion which was just as devastating as a zombie invasion, if not more so.

[deleted account]

Yeah Krista, I think you're right. I think it's gonna be war or weather....both caused by human foolishness. There's always the asteroid theory though too. I could see that happening. And for the record, I don't actually believe in zombies lol I just love gore :)

I don't believe in this 2012 foolishness, nor do I believe in zombies.

I think the end of the world will come by way of nuclear war, and there's really no way to prepare for that, is there? Picture a train stuffed with dynamite, stretching all the way from New York to L.A. That's the power of just ONE of the existing nuclear weapons held by the nuclear weapons states.

There are almost 8,000 active nuclear weapons in the world.

Zombies? We should be so fucking lucky.

If the Apocalypse really does exist as long as i am saved by the winchesters then i'll be very happy! ;p

Zombieland was great, wasn't it!? But I'm not a fan of most other zombie movies just because I can't stand the suspense and the 'build up, build up, build up - SCARE!!!!!!' Stupid suspenseful music!

I totally ♥ Zombies...I would survive for 12 months in Zombieland, which happens to be one of my favorite movies!
I DO NOT believe in ANY sort of predestined apocalypse...Therefore...I'm also not preparing for any sort of apocalypse...

[deleted account]

No, I do not believe in the Apocalypse. And I'm scared more by people who DO believe in the Apocalypse than Zombies.

I do not believe in the end of world scenario of 2012. Incidentally that will be my 39th birthday.
I am only preparing for the same reasons you will be. Because I know there are enough people who do believe, which will make supplies of certain items lower than normal. And since it's right near Christmas I'm not taking chances on not having evaporated and condensed milk for baking!! lol
I don't believe in Zombies, nor do I love or like them, they creep me out more than any other horror flick type character. Ewww... night of the living dead was a very very scary movie for me.

@ Desiree. It's a show called Supernatural

Sam and Dean Winchester are two unbelievably hot brothers who travel all over the US fighting demons and ghosts and everything in between. Last season they stopped the Apocalypse by trapping Lucifer back in hell. My husband got me addicted to the show (he has a man-crush on Dean lol)

[deleted account]

Ok I have no idea why I opened this thread, things like this give me nightmares. I won't let hubby watch anything about 2012 when I am about it just freaks me out a little. But I opened it so lets answer those questions:

1) No, I don't think the apocalypse can be predicted, there is always something to scare the masses with. I do believe that one day a disease or war or weather occurance etc will kill many of the population someday though. I also know without a doubt that I will die because I am not made to survive without supermarkets and my luxuries.

2) No, I am not preparing for anything, I will do my shopping as normal and have no intention of stocking up. Although I have to say if people go mad and there is no food in the shops I will be really pissed off about it.

3) No I don't think I do, zombies scare me and give me nightmares.

:-)

Please can someone explain to the darkest Africa people who is Sam and Dean Winchester the powers that be here don't have very much of an imagination and us poor souls have no idea who you are talking about....Actually getting quite weird because some of the show you mention sound very interesting..

Does anyone listen to the survivalist? We keep a months supply of tins, dried food and washing / cleaning things in case of bad weather or even if my husband lost his job we would then not have to worry about buying food for a month.

People here go berserk as soon as bad weather is mentioned and the supermarkets run out very quickly. Common sense to keep a little store.

Any sign of the apocalypse, zombies, werewolves etc and I'm going to find Sam & Dean Winchester to take care of me.

i do belive in the Apocalypse, I am just not sure the world is going to end the way we think. I do however think there is a finite time but not whether its 2012. Everything has an ending its just a matter of when?

No I am not preparing for it I would rather be surprised and it be quick than me knowing its coming a die slowly thanks but no thanks.

No don't like zombies, nasty creatures... prefer werewolves or vampires. more of a challang when I try to destroy them. even a plant can kill them (played plants versus zombies find it a little mindless) ;)

IMO he's an extremist on the end of times. He also has a whole line of medicines for EVERYTHING.
It's called Nutrimedical. He claims to be able to control ANYTHING, even cancer with these meds.

The only thing I ever got from him was colloidal silver for acne LOL. My brother on the other hand got indiom and ended up in the emergency room for toxicity from the idiom. According to poison control it's highly toxic and poisonous. Cool eh?

Point is I was just wondering if anyone listened to this freak because I was going to tell you this story.

@ JuLeah ~ ROFL! Just don't get bit and aim for the head.

Edited to add: And run. Fast. Stay away from cities and when you have to kill 'em, don't let the splatter get in your eyes, mouth or any open wounds or you're screwed.

@ Katherine ~ Never heard of him. Googling...

WE were just talking about Zeitgeist on FB. I don't know if I believe it will happen in 2012.....I think it's been happening for years. We have dug ourselves deeper and deeper into debt, famine, war.....what else is there? Over population......it's coming, I just don't know when.
Now Zombies. Hrm.

Jocelyn, it takes more then fire to live through a zombi attack. I mean I too can make fire with two sticks, a piece of string, and a match, but I lack the skills to beat a zombie. For that, I'd need professional help in the form of Joy Benson.

Well, if Zombies show up, I may email you for your personal contact information and pay a visit. I am not predicted to survive without help.
As for the end of the world .... the folks who designed that calendar were carving into rock; they were not using Word templates. It was a challenge to create such a large document and I would guess many spent their lives on the effort. By the time they reached 2012, they had run out of rock, run out of steam, or just no longer cared. They quit working on it because all their friends were laughing at them. All their former classmates had 'real jobs', real relationships, had kids, had traveled and had had adventures. The 'Calendar Nerds' as they were called had spent their adult lives living in their folk’s basement and working out of Mom's garage.

I don't think the Apocalypse is going to be in 2012, which was based on the Mayan calander and has now been said that they were mistaken. :) I think that when God is ready for us to come up there and there really is no way for a human being to predict when that will happen.

I found this website on Google where they talk about the world not ending on 2012. or at least not most of it.

The Apocalypse is not going to happen in 2012, but if it DID, I think Jordan will be able to protect our family from a Zombie invasion--he's very into survival--he can literally start a fire with two sticks and a piece of string.
But if zombies invade and the Apocalypse starts and the supermarkets are destroyed, I think I'll probably have to give up being a vegetarian. Alberta has a very short growing season, and really all can grow is wheat, canola and mustard seed and beef :S
We are not preparing in any way; we survived Y2K with no provisions :P

First off, Joy, bahahaha! You're hilarious!

Secondly, to answer your question. No I don't believe in the apocalypse, however my husband has been talking about 12/21/12 since the day I met him and even before that stupid movie came out lol. So he is a firm believer. He actually asked me the other day if we could go get new furniture from Leons b/c we wouldn't have to pay until 2012 and we would be dead at the end of the year anyways (I'm questioning his sanity...).
As for preparing for this event, we havn't as of yet but will probably stock up on non-perishables closer to the date, b/c even when nothing happens, it doesn't hurt to have a cupboard full ;D
Kinda reminds me the Y2K paranoia and weren't the 'crazies' faces red after nothing happened lol. I tried to make a bet with my husband that if nothing happened he owed me $100 but he said that if he won, I would be dead, so how would I pay up? Hmmm...

And I do love Zombies, wish to be one one day :D

[deleted account]

I'm totally watching the Walking Dead! I like it so far.
I think 2012 will be like Y2K was. A lotta hooplah for nothing. On 12/22/12 I plan on waking up, draggin' my ass to the kitchen to make coffee and I fully expect the world to still be there when I look out my window.

You should read The Passage too. I'm reading it now and I just can't seem to get to sleep when I do.

All I know, if the zombie apocalypse happens, my dog is dead meat first. She is a blind, little, slow moving, fluffy zombie treat.

Oh and I just think its a sign of the times. Things are rough out there. The rash a fantasy books/films dealing with the end of civilization/eternal beings who are the downfall/save us from a great evil, you know Harry Potter, Twilight, Zombieland, The Walking Dead, even Stephanie Meyers other book, The Host are a reaction to the hard times. It's no mistake that Anne Rice became huge during the 80's AIDS epidemic, people want to people that even through the roughest, bitter end of civilization people will survive, humanity will still thrive despite it all. I know I do.

I do believe in the apocalypse but I do not believe that it can be predicted my man. I am a Christian so in my faith I do believe that no man will know when that hour comes, only God himself.
