The Tooth Fairy.

$1 AUD per tooth :-)
He is only 6 and so doesn't fully comprehend the true value of money yet. All he does is put it in his money box.
One very cute thing he did do last week (yes tooth fairy visited). It was the second call out of the tooth fairy, and when he woke up and found the dollar coin he wanted to give it to his little sister because "she didn't get one last time (when the fairy visited) and we won't have the same amounts of money in the money box" (we give same amounts of money to the kids now and again to put in their money boxes, so that is what he was referring to).

We told him that he could very well keep it and that we would make it up to his little sister with the dollar coins. :-)

My mum was really forgetful when I was little, I remember waking up 3 mornings in a row and my tooth was still there. I was really upset so I wrote the tooth fairy a letter and told her I was not happy she made me wait so long. The next morning I woke up to my money and a note saying sorry she had been really busy.

My daughter is only 2 but I would say we will leave around $2.00 per tooth, we do the glass of water thing too, my mum is an anal clean freak and having a tooth under my bedding would drive her insane.

My daughter is only two but the amount of money I have heard my friends and family give is outrageous! I have heard up to 10$ with an average between 2-5$. I'm scared to think of what inflation will do to that rate in 4 years. ;)



Personally, I think 2$ for a first tooth and a dollar per tooth from there on is acceptable. I once heard of a mom say that at their house the tooth fairy pays less for teeth with cavities/fillings. I think that will be how our tooth fairy operates too.

My oldest has 2 teeth loose right now. The first tooth was 4 quarters because that's all I had. Her 2nd tooth was a toonie (2$) and I forgot to take the tooth. I have no idea where she put it but she did mention that the tooth fairy forgot it.

I don't know what we'll do for the next ones.

Well the tooth fairy happened to made a visit last night! it was tooth #4 and I could have killed my husband for leaving $5 AGAIN!

Tooth #1 was special, so it was $5. Tooth #2 was unexpected, and all we had was a $5 bill or a $20 bill and it was so late at night that I was too tired to run to the gas station to make change. Tooth #3 was $2 and my son cried, becasue he was expecting $5. So lo and behold last night...$5. What a spoiled brat! He wants to buy Pokemon cards today.

My son also writes notes to the tooth fairy. The first time he said he wanted to keep his tooth because it was the first he ever lost. The next time (he had three teeth pulled at the dentist), he asked if he could keep them, since he had to get them pulled. He wrote that he wanted to make something out of them!

My son lost his first tooth about 6 months ago. He had told his dad that the neighbor girl gets $5 a tooth. Dad fell for it! I couldn't believe he left $5 under our son's pillow. The next morning I played it off a, "Wow - you must get extra for loosing your first tooth!" Since then it's been $1 per tooth! FYI - the neighbor said the tooth fairy is cheap at her house - only 50 cents a tooth. LOL

I always got a loonie or a toonie. I'll probably do the same for my kids. $1 for front teeth/incisors, and $2 for molars. I haven't thought about HOW I'm going to do it yet...but I should get on it...my son's almost 5!

The dentist gave my daughter a teensy tiny treasure box to put her tooth in. We poke that into the tooth pillow.

Did you know the tooth fairy has little sisters? In our home the Paci Fairy came to visit when my oldest finally got rid of her pacifier. Left a little note of praise. My daughter has it framed in her room :) there is also the Binky Fairy who visited her friend's house. Haha.

I've written notes as the tooth fairy too!

A kid at Cadence's school didn't think there really was a tooth fairy, so when his tooth fell out, he didn't tell his Mum and just put it under his pillow.........obviously no money was left, so he knew the truth!

I've never heard of the cup of water thing........that would be SO much easier than having to try and get it from under a pillow that they're sleeping on!! I might have to do that once my youngest is old enough!

I wonder where the whole pillow/glass of water thing started?

my daughter got $1 for her first tooth, $2 for the second etc. We are up to $5. She leaves her tooth in a tiny cup of water. I sprinkle micro glitter around the glass and write a tiny note in a gold pen thanking her for tooth. It's probably over the top but i love fairies and magic and so does she.

It was awful the day she found her two baby teeth in small snap lock bags with the date written on them at the back of a cabinet. She knew they were her teeth, luckily her dad came up with a quick story. He told he he bought her first baby teeth back off the tooth fairy because he wanted them for memories. eep, talk about a web of lies:p

I gave my older daughter a dollar for the first tooth she lost because that's all I had in my change purse. Her second tooth, she got a toonie.

The best 'tooth fairy' story is that DH forgot to write the note when he left the toonie (Its a 2$ coin for non Canadians) and he had to rush back and place it before my 7 year old woke up.

The best lost tooth story was my oldest's first lost tooth. It came out when she was brushing her teeth before school and she tried to tell me she couldn't go to school because of blood loss.

Obviously we aren't there yet. I have no idea what the going rate is. Tip though: whatever you choose, make sure you share the amount with your kids' friends' parents if they are doing the sleepover thing. That's what first made me suspicious of the whole thing. I got 25 cents for a tooth at my house and a whole loonie for a tooth at my friend's house.

My daughter got $5 for her first tooth, because I wasn't prepared and had nothing smaller except my penny collection.lol She's gotten $2 per tooth since then. We don't do the under the pillow thing though, when I was a kid, we always left the tooth in a cup of water on the window sil in front of the kitchen sink, so that's what my daughter does now.

I was at my step mother's parents' house for Christmas when I lost my 2 front teeth. It ended up being pretty funny because even though we had difficulty getting them out, when they finally did come out, I ended up with over $20 because my step mother's family felt so bad for me. LOL That's how I figured out there was no tooth fairy.

When my oldest knocked her first tooth out with a drinking glass, her then 3 yr old sister thought she would never be able to speak again! Lots of trauma and drama for about fifteen minutes.

We gave $2 in "gold coins" which are merely $1 Sacajewa coins. After that, $2 in quarters for each tooth. They love to amass coins...way more fun to hear a jangle in their tooth fairy pillow! Oh and always a little fairy dust.

I swallowed my tooth and was terrified that the tooth fairy wouldn't come. Mom helped me make a tooth out of cardstock to "trick the tooth fairy". Probably not a good life lesson...haha!

I've heard of kids getting $5-$10 per tooth! I think that's too much. We'll probably do $1 per tooth.

My eldest lost a tooth once in the school playground. She wrote a letter of apology to the tooth fairy saying where she had lost it and put the letter under her pillow. The tooth fairy left her some money and a letter saying a couple of friends helped her look and she found the tooth, and thanked my daughter for her apology and honesty LOL.

Firstly, bunk beds and tooth fairies don't mix! Especially if like me you're 5ft nothing! lol

My daughter lost a tooth recently and she was messing about with it while we out shopping, she dropped it twice and I kept saying "If you lose it, the tooth fairy won't come!" Anyway, that night she left an envelope for the tooth fairy (she always writes a letter, I've kept them all) and I snuck in and got it, left the money, came downstairs and opened it up.........no tooth! The letter she left said this: "Dear Tooth Fairy, I'm really sorry but I lost my tooth down the drain. Please still leave me some money, I'm really sorry, love Cadence"
I wanted to go and get my money back! lol! My husband wouldn't let me though.

A few days later she lost another tooth, and I completely forgot to be the tooth fairy. I woke up at 4:30am with the sudden realisation I hadn't done it, so tried to sneak in but she woke up. I said "Oh, I thought I heard a noise, go back to sleep". I didn't dare go in again, so I waited until she had got up in the morning and quickly did it. I said "Has the tooth fairy been?" and she said "No, I've been really sad" I told her to go and double check and she came running down all happy! She asked me why the tooth fairy hadn't come earlier so I said that as it's darker in the mornings now, the tooth fairy might have gotten confused!!

Being the tooth fairy is stressful!!! hahaha :)

I give my girls £1 per tooth.

My 6 year old lost a tooth recently so put it in a tissue under her pillow. When I went to bed I took the £1 up with me to do the swap. Unfortunately she woke just before I got into her bedroom. She looked under the pillow and was sad as the tooth fairy hadn't been yet. I told her that the tooth fairy was probably having a very busy night, then I noticed the tooth was in quite an awkward position to get so I said to her, no wonder, the tooth fairy may not have been able to reach it so get your bed straightened out, we'll move the tooth and i'm sure she'll come and get it when you're asleep. While my daughter re-adjusted her quilt I quickly swapped the tooth for the £1. She then lifted her pillow to move the tooth and was totally shocked to find the money there. I asked if she'd seen the tooth fairy swap that then. She said no. I said I didn't either so that just proves the tooth fairy really is magic. My daughter went to sleep very happy after that.

I never got the tooth fairy as a kid:-(
So when my little girl lost her first tooth.I put a tiny star wand under her pillow(got from a bday card i was given)then i sprinkled a small bit of glitter on her pillow.I also gave a euro.She saw the wand and went running so excited and told all she had the Fairy's wand.She had no interest in the money a bit.lol

We plan to do the tooth fairy with our son. He's only 3 so he has yet to lose a tooth. I'm not sure how much we will give him; however much we can afford at the time would be my guess, maybe a few dollars a tooth. Or maybe it will be dependent upon how painful it was to lose, heck I don't know! :) I'm not sure I have a funny story but we were camping one summer with a large group of people and I lost a tooth. I woke up to like 50 $1 dollar bills under my pillow, I was one happy kiddo! That's the most money I've ever gotten for a lost tooth!
