I was shocked to read this. The mother needs a kick up the backside. This is a human being not a girls world! This is so wrong and what message is she already sending out to her daughter! As for the lip balm that is not make up you are purely trying to prevent the pain of cracked lips. I hope I don't see this photo as I would not think twice about telling the mother what I think!

Not only is it creepy but it's pointless too. Mascara is supposed to enhance your eyes and make them stand out, but this baby has got big beautiful eyes anyway. Seriously not needed, I personally don't see why it would be needed even at a professional photo shoot. If my daughter had a mark on her face the day of the shoot then we still get the picture done without make up or concealer and when we get the photo we just say oh, thats the day she scratched herself, or whatever. My children are beautiful no matter what and a scratch is not going to change that. My daughter (3 yrs) has a Y shaped scar on her forehead (she ran into a wall last year) I am not going to be covering that up for any photos, I want her to learn to love every part of her even the "imperfections".
That being said now my daughter is a bit older and has taken a lot of interest in my own makeup, I was actually surprised to find her one day with my make up on and she actually new where everything went, although the lipgloss was around the outside of her lips and the mascara was on her eyelids! (Lets just say make up is under lock and key from now on) I'm a housewife and if we are stuck in the house on a rainy day (England!) then we'll have a little play around but I would NEVER let her leave the house wearing it and I will not be taking photos! She has nail polish too.

I don't understand why mother's want their daughters to grow up so soon, I am ok with lip gloss and a little nail polish when my daughter shows an interest but other than that I want her to enjoy being a child. I had a look at the picture and I am pretty sure she has used www.taaz.com a virtual make over site, it's amazing how real it looks, I have used it quite a few times on myself and of course to turn my husband into a transvestite, just for laughs! :)

I understand that each country has their own cultral believes, but Im a big believer in the phrase of "when you know better, you do better". I can't understand why in 2010 ANY mother would be doing that to her baby. Im just thinking the risks of taking her eye out with the pencil, or getting the chemicals in her delicate little eyes is unjustifiable.

I think it's wrong to put full face makeup on delicate baby skin. I don't think a bit of lip balm hurts though. I don't think occasional use for older toddlers and young children is so bad, but It's not for me because I think natural children look better. However, those little pageant girls look very scary to me. I can't understand why anyone would think it's cute to do that to a child.

Obviously 7 months old is way too young for make-up. But that is a good point to bring up that it may have been for some type of cultural celebration. I still don't understand how you could possibly get the eye liner and mascara on someone so young though. Muchless, why would you want to? That being said, I do have a 5 year old daughter. From very young she would want me to put make-up on her while I was applying mine. Typically I would just take a cleam powder brush and swoop it across her face a couple of times and she would be on cloud 9. Now she has a little make-up bag with some clean brushes and a few old empty compacts of mine for when she's playing dress up. I don't have any problem with little kids playing around the house with a little bit of make-up but it really shouldn't leave the house. Madeline's are just empty because she's fair skinned and it's pretty sensetive. I just don't want her to have a rash on her face from dress-up.



When she was 2, she sat up on Sants's lap and proudly asked for him to bring her lipstick for Christmas. She got some chap stick and was overly joyed. I've also been painting her toe nails for as long as I can remember. Now we routinely paint her finger nails and toenails. It's cute and makes her happy. I don't see a problem with that.



As far as "real" make-up, that will wait until at least middle school. I probably won't even approach the topic until she asks me (but judging by her prissiness, it will be sooner rather than later). So aourn 11 or 12 if she's got an interest I will show her how to properly apply her make-up as well as how to properly remove it at night and wash her face. All this really overwhelms me though, so we will cross that bridge when we get there!

I had a hindu friend years ago, I miss her. But as a teen she never wore makeup nor did her older teen sister. But on festival days they wore more make up than I do all year NOW as an adult, lol. Such beautiful eyes. I never saw a baby or anything so I can't say its normal. She may have just been playing around

Beautiful child...creepy to be done up like a showgirl....but I must wonder by the moms name if it doesn't have something to do with their culture. I do not feel that chapstick counts as makeup seeing as how even small children get chapped lips. I don't see anything wrong with little girls getting their nails painted at home mani/pedis however is CRAZY. I think that makeup should be reserved until the teen years and at that point the mother should either teach the daughter proper application or take her to a salon and have them give her a lesson. I can see putting a little gloss or powder on a older little girl while playing dress up and I can see it also for special occations for tweens but kids ar rushed and pushed to grow up so quick already why add to it? Not to metion why make them even more appealing to the sickos of the world?

I worry about questions like this, ahving 2 daughters and not being a girly girl. I never learned how to put on makeup (beyond a dab of concealer - which i've had the same bottle of since I was 13 or so, because I almost never use it). I wont be able to teach my daughters how to put on makeup, they will never see me put any on, I don't even know how to braid hair properly (I was 100% tomboy I guess as a kid). I'll probably have to learn these things now.. that's the only reason I was hoing to have boys really, so I could run around in the mud with them and catch bugs, frogs and snakes.. *sigh*

Oh that was so not right on many levels. I am so fortunate to have a boy! And I think all kids like to mimic Mommy while putting on make-up. When my son was about 2 or 3 he would ask me to 'poof' his face with the blush brush. Nothing was on it, but he liked it. Anyway, a baby with full make-up is saddening and I wonder if there was a backstory to the picture. To play devil's advocate, perhaps there was a reason for the baby in make-up. None that I can personally think of, but perhaps. I did notice that the mother had an ethnic sounding name, and I certainly do not want to pre-judge in any way, but perhaps this may have been part of a cultural celebration. No one knows WHY the mother put her baby in make-up and I sure hope it is not an every day occurrance.

OMG......I am trying to find the words.



One thing I do remember is putting mascara on my male boss one day (long story, but we had a Rocky Horror Show theme party), and it stung his eyes because he wasn't used to it, and it really bothered him, and he ended up with really red eyes. Imagine how mascara and other eye make up may affect a baby. It can't be good for her. And that is besides the creep factor.....

I suppose I would do what my father did. He told me I wasn't allowed to wear make up until I was 16. I messed around with my mum's make up on occasion, but she wasn't one to wear a lot so I never really had the desire to wear it except to play dress ups.



That little girl is a cutie and I can't understand why her mother would want her to look like Chucky's little sister. It looks creepy.



Okay, what really annoys me is that her eye make up is better than I can do for myself! lol

Dear me, she is such a beautiful child. I can not imagine why anyone would have wanted to cover up her lovely face with make-up.

I wouldn't consider putting makeup on my daughter right now, she's 20 months. I'm a little worried about irritating her skin, it is a bit sensitive. But sometimes when I am doing my makeup, I will brush her cheeks or eyes with a clean brush to "do" her makeup. She loves it. And we did put some lip cream on her lips when we got back from our latest holiday. All of us had chapped lips from the dry air, the air conditioning and eating saltier food than we are used to. She didn't like the taste, so luckily she didn't eat it.

I think at 7 months a baby should not have makeup on. For one babies skin is so sensitive and 2 babies are just to cute to cover it up with makeup. Let the baby be a baby. Now I'd say around 4 or 5 play makeup is acceptable to be worn in the house and not in public. I was not allowed to wear make up out of the houe until I was 15 years old. Jess---I think lip balm is fine. I mean my son gets dry lips and I'm tempted to put some on him sometimes lol.

I cannot think of any reason whatsoever that would justify putting makeup on a 7-month old. Maybe a bit of concealer if she has a scratch on her face and you're going to Sears Portrait Studio that day? That's the only possible reason that I'd even consider to be mildly legitimate.

7 months? Well, obviously the baby has its say in that matter. My daughter used to go nuts with my makeup if she got hold of it by the time she was about 2, so I used to giver her some lip gloss for herself (I couldn't tell you how many of my lipsticks she ruined trying to be like me!!). But seriously, at 7 months, it is not about the child, it is about the mother and her really screwed up idea of how her baby should look.....



Let the baby look like a baby.

i'd say play makeup-eyeshadow, blush, lipstick when the kid is 2. i don't have a problem with that at all. to actually start wearing makeup i think 11/12 is good. and no i don't think lip balm is considered makeup, i think it's necessary for dry lips!

It really depends on why the make up is being put on and where it's being worn.



My toddler has worn make up, she loves getting into mine. So I'll let her wear some in the house from time to time but it's always washed off before we go out.



Our oldest daughter will be 10 this summer. She's allowed to wear lip gloss, on special occasion does wear a sheer sparkly eye shadow. She's interested in it and I'll let her experiment at home but she's not allowed to go out with it on. When she's about 13 we will let her start wearing a little bit more. (eyeshadow, blush.. no liner, mascara or foundation for mine until they're 15/16) She will be taught how to put it on properly though. The worst thing I've ever seen is pre-teens/teens with make up on and they look like painted up hootchies because their mom didn't take the time to show them how to apply it properly. You don't need 10 lbs of make up, you really don't. It's supposed to be used to enhance your features, not completely blot them out and make you look like a clown. =|



Mine does wear nail polish on occasion too. Nothing ghastly, she has light pink, light sparkly blue and a sparkly light purple. She's even been known to paint our toddlers finger nails but that never lasts long... she's always up and ruins them before they have a chance to dry. LOL!

I think that's awful. Just horrible. I'm not sure what the cut-off age is and thankfully I don't have a daughter because I'd really struggle with those kinds of things (particularly all the sexy pre-teen clothes on the market). I would like to put it off as long as humanly possible (I'd say probably at least until 13/14) and once that time comes, I'd still want it to be very light and natural (lip gloss vs lipstick etc.). One of my pet peeves is little girls getting a pedicure/manicure in a nail salon. I think I was 30 before I got my first manicure/pedicure, but when I go I am always amazed at the number of 3/4/5 year olds sitting there and being intimately familiar with the whole drill. I think that's too much. I don't mind a mom putting a little nail polish on her daughter's nails for a special occassion so she can be like mommy, but to actually give them manicures and pedicures, it makes my skin crawl (sorry). One time I was at my salon waiting for my nails to dry and there were two little girls sitting in front of me at the drying station (probably about 7 or so) and the one girl was complaining to her friend that she "only" got a manicure (they did little flowers etc. on the nails too so it took longer) and that it was ridiculous that they hadn't given her a pedicure, saying (I quote) "I mean, how hard can it be?!". Ugh.



As for the lip balm, I don't think that counts as make-up. I actually have put it on my son on occassion when his lips seem particularly dry (he's 2) and he's put chapstick on himself too (he then proceeds and smears it on his cheeks too).
