Am I the only Mother on this whole site that thinks vaccinating my child is a good thing? That it's amazing that we live in a world where polio, plagues and epidemics are non-existent in our westernized societies? I would really like to hear both sides but especially from the Yeh's!!!

Thank you thank you thank you! I am in the middle of a debate with a few Mom's on another post and they are definitely pro non vaccinate. And aggro about it. I agree with you TOTALLY about what you are saying. The information provided is indeed invaluable for Mom's who are in doubt. And my point exactly about Mother's who do not vaccinate. They are counting on the fact these viruses stay dormant and that other children stay healthy so "their" children do not contract any of these diseases/viruses. Much appreciated!

Not sure where on this site you have been hanging out! Most people around here that I've seen ARE on board with vaccinating.

I fully support vaccinating children. I was the first generation to get the polio vaccine - some of my friends were not so lucky. Thanks to vaccination my kids don't even know what a small pox vaccination scar looks like.

My kids were born before the Chicken Pox vaccine existed, so they both got the illness - I had to spend twenty miserable days getting them through it. Fortunately they had no side effects. Chicken Pox is bad enough without having to deal with pneumonia or encephalitis.

To quote:

"Before vaccination for varicella became widespread in the United States, this disease affected approximately 4 million children per year, caused as many as 100 deaths in children annually, and was responsible for an estimated $400 million in medical costs and lost wages each year. Since the varicella vaccine was introduced in the United States in 1995, disease incidence has substantially decreased... varicella is not totally benign even today. A significant number of varicella cases are associated with complications, among the most serious of which are varicella pneumonia and encephalitis." - http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/96...

In every country when vaccination rates go up, child mortality goes down. When vaccination rate goes down, child mortality goes up. In other words, if you do vaccinate your children will have a better chance to be healthy than if you don't, The numbers are real numbers. No one is fiddling with them.

To quote:

"The other way we can see how risky it is to not vaccinate people is to observe what happens when vaccination rates go down. For example, in 1975, Japan imposed a moratorium on the use of the pertussis vaccine, due in part to hysterical anti-vaccination propagandists. As a result, the vaccination rate dropped significantly. In the three years before the moratorium, there were 400 cases of pertussis and 10 associated deaths. In the three years following the moratorium, there were 13,000 cases (33.5 TIMES as many cases) of pertussis and 113 associated deaths (11.3 TIMES as many deaths). Of those that didn't die, more than 200 experienced convulsions and about 15 have permanent brain damage. Due to these alarming statistics, the government started promoting vaccination again, and vaccination rates increased dramatically. As a result, pertussis rates went back to their pre-moratorium levels. That's the risk associated with not vaccinating - innocent children die or suffer permanent injury." - http://www.drwile.com/lnkpages/render.as...

If you DON'T vaccinate your are gambling with your childrens' health. You are a free-loader, whether you think you are or not, counting on the fact that other people DO vaccinate so your kids are unlikely to come into contact with these diseases.

As was discovered in Philadelphia, where a church congregation refused to vaccinate their children for measles, 9 children died from measles. Two of these children had nothing to do with the church but were unfortunate enough to live near it. They were young babies that hadn't been vaccinated yet, totally innocent and from totally innocent families.

If you DON'T vaccinate, you are putting other peoples' children at risk, not just your own.

my daughter is up to date on her vaccines, but recently I have read some very scary stuff regarding vaccines. I honestly don't know.
