It's true, Laura -- more and more former Republicans are now calling themselves moderates or independents because they just don't recognize their party anymore. I read quite a few political blogs, and one of the most hard-core right-wingers, Charles Johnson of the blog Little Green Footballs, has even said that the current right wing is WAY too crazy for him.

I consider myself Republican... at least that's the way I vote, because sadly, our country is divided in half with only two options. I am conservative and republicans usually share my ideals more than democrats or liberals, but they do not share all of my ideals. By the way, although there are some republicans that believe these things, I do believe these survey results are bogus. I am registered as a republican and I did get a call asking me to take a survey similar to this one, but they ONLY asked who I was supporting. If it isn't bogus results, then I am sure that they called some town in middle of nowhere, USA that is full of radical republicans.



I don't believe Obama should be impeached. For what?

I am NOT sure that he was born in the US (but how am a I SURE Bush, Palin, Cheney, etc. were born in the US without seeing their birth certificate? LOL).

I don't know if he is a socialist but his views are closer to socialism than my own.

I do NOT think Palin is more qualified than Obama. I didn't think she was qualified to be the Vice President. I'm not saying I don't think she is nice, but I don't want her running the country.

I don't know maybe I'm "moderate". But I am conservative in that I am religious, I think the people should govern the government, not the government govern the people and I am a huge supporter of the military, but I am so a "hippie" because I do think huge gas guzzling SUV's are evil (LOL j/k not evil, but definitely bad for the environment), I think we should conserve our resources and care about our earth, I think killing animals for sport (hunting) is horrible, I am a human rights and animal rights activist, and probably more. My point, I haven't felt like I have had a republican that closely resembled my beliefs to follow since Reagan and I was born the year he was voted in office! LOL

See, I'm confused, Christa, because I never specifically called out anyone. But really...WHY should Obama be impeached? There's no legit reason right now. So yeah, I think that someone who thinks that is a dumbass who doesn't really know much about our political system. Also, anyone who thinks that Palin is more qualified to be president, because they obviously don't know much about either Obama or Palin, and soemone who thinks Obama is a socialist, as they've either never looked up the word or never looked into what Obama's healthcare policy actually says. I never directly attacked ANYONE in here. I'm speaking in general terms. NO ONE has identified with any of the sentiments expressed in the survey from the OP. I did not specifically say, "Christa, you are a dumbass." I'm not bullying ANYONE, as no one in here has identified with that study.



But you've got one thing right-if that's how you feel, really truly feel, then you can absolutely use the general term "dumbasses" to get your point across without me being offended. I might not understand why you do so, as I think the very opposite, but you have every right to do it as long as you're not calling ME in particular (or another member of the community) a dumbass.



Oh, and if we're not here to debate about our beliefs...Then what the fuck are we debating? I mean, really, come on...It makes no sense to say that we should not debate about beliefs. By definition, a belief is something you BELIEVE...And if you can't bring the things you believe into a debate, then there is no debate, because you obviously have no stance on the topic....

I'm confused what happened. We were debating about the ideas presented in the poll and basically all of us whether American or not ....whether Republican, Democrat, Independent or what came to the same conclusion..we did not agree with the assertions in the poll.



Now if someone does agree with the assertions in the poll they have every right and are welcome to post that they do, but they should be open to realizing that they will encounter opposing views. Just because the majority agrees in this posts that does not mean we are bullying and keeping away those who don't agree with us. THey can express their opinions all they want but if they feel to uncomfortable to do so that is not any of our faults and no one should refrain from expressing their thoughts just because their ideas are in the majority may make someone uncomfortable.



I would probably feel more uncomfortable about posting in a thread where everyone agreed with the ideas asserted in the OP but if I had joined the debating group and wanted to take part in the convo I would do it even if I was in the minority. There have been issues on this forum more than once where I did not agree with the majority and either I jumped into the convo or I stayed back but I never got pissed off and claimed people were being offensive towards me.

I have to say, as someone whose beliefs do not coincide with many to most of the women in this community, I have never felt like an outcast here. The point is to debate. If you feel someone has said something inappropriate or offensive, find some evidence to back up your ideas or beliefs and bring it back to them.

If you are able to come into a debate, without taking things personally, there are no issues. I find nothing offensive with Diana's use of "dumbasses" to refer to the people in the survey. I do not take offense because I am not looking at this debate personally. Not that I agree with what the republicans in the poll gave as answers. It seems to me, Christa, that you are coming here looking to be offended and on the defensive rather than coming in with an open mind ready to present your ideas that may go against the grain.

For the record, I do NOT agree with the ideas presented in this poll and the stance these republicans have taken about the issues. I just wanted to post this as someone whose religious beliefs and political affiliations are different than the majority of lovely ladies in this community.

I think the problem is that not enough republicans are willing to join into the debates...if there were MORE women who agreed with you, standing up for that opinion...it wouldn't feel like bullying.

I know when I was on PDM and there were more republicans than liberals, I often felt bullied or picked on...then when the tables were turned I felt bad for the few conservatives left to defend their opinions on their own.

ahhhh...therein lies the problem...this group discusses their BELIEFS all the time, on very sensitive topics (it is VERY easy to get one's knickers in a twist) Like I said...if you don't enjoy the way this group "debates" or the topics that this group "debates" why bother? Start a group that debates "properly" and doesn't bother with BELIEFS... if you come up with some good topics perhaps I'll join

see, I am not concerned about people talking about things that I agree with. no one knows what I believe, because I am not here to talk about my BELIEFS. but it would be nice if the group would not try to dismiss and offend people based on their debate. i am not looking for a formal debate. at the same time I don't want to have to agree with the majority to be apart of the debate. and i am not upset that anyone disagrees with me....i am bothered by the fact that a group will attack someone in this "debating mums" forum for not agreeing with them. in this forum if a person or two don't agree with the majority.....BAM.....the bullying begins. perhaps you could provide a list of topics you find personally offensive...then we could all walk around on eggshells making sure you are never offended personally.

While I do agree that this "debating" group is not any formal type of debating, it is more of a group of women discussing/ arguing about controversial topics (I must admit I have been a little surprised by the internet forum definition of debating...but anyhoo)

We have debated many topics like helicopter moms/free range parents (where MANY of the group disagreed with me)...and at EVERY moment I was aware of the fact that I didn't have to participate if it was upsetting me. But I personally ENJOY it when people disagree with me (perhaps I'm weird...but that's why I go to debating forums)

You seem to be the one upset by the fact that everyone disagrees with you...perhaps you should start a group that "debates" properly ... :D

My point.....in a debate we aren't debate our beliefs....we are simply debating another side of a topic. No where in a debate should we have to get defensive, call names, or bully someone for not agreeing with us. There is another forum where you can go...and ridicule someone for not believing like you.

But in a debate.....you still respect someone even if what they say isn't what you believe. In fact, in a debate, you may say something you don't believe for the purpose of a debate.

This could be a real fun forum....if we could get back to debating and alienating anyone that doesn't AGREE with the majority.

While I hardly think that's indicative of the entire Republican party, it's extremely scary that in a survey that covered the nation (even on a small scale like this one) found such uniform opinions on these issues. I mean, I have no problem with people disliking Obama for legitimate reasons (his stance on abortion, for example), but he hasn't done anything yet that merits impeachment, and he certainly isn't a socialist by the standard definition of the word. I also have no problem with people having their own opinions about homosexuality and contraceptives...But they have no right to determine my thoughts and actions on those issues, or I theirs. Seriously, what are people thinking?!

Yea, My grandmother who lives in Alabama came home one day during the election and told me she just met the craziest lady she had ever encountered. She told me she was sitting in the dental office waiting to be seen and this lady who was older than her sitting next to her asked her if she knew that Obama was the anti-christ. My grandmother laughed thinking what a wacky joke but she was floored when the lady said she was serious and the she said he was an Arab Muslim. My grandmother asked why she thought that and she said her son got an e-mail that said so and then she whispered.....well he is black. My grandmother just patted the lady on her hand and politely told her how silly it was to beleive all that crazy nonsense and that she hoped she got over her racist ignorance before she left this earth.

I know two brothers who want Louisiana to sucede from the US. My aunt is trying to convince my cousin to homeschool her son so he won't be exposed to teachers teaching homosexuality. The same aunt is convinced Obama is not American. And I heard a rumor that he was the anitchrist.

All that is true...sadly.

That is why I am an independent that votes Republican...most of the time.

Esther does currently live in America..... she has been living in America for a few years now.......... so she is already here in America. She said in her post she has had a greencard for 7 years and has been paying taxes here in America for those years which means she has been living in America.

Do me a favor: When you get here.....give each and every person a chance. Please don't fall into our stupidology of judging people before we get a chance to know them. First off I will say that I don't think all Republicans are crazy or ignorant or lovers of Glen Beck. I think that there is an extermist element within the party and they seem to be the loudest. However, I do think that a majoirty of Republicans do watch Fox News faithfully and some do not research what is being said or even admit that it is obviously geared toward conservative ideology which therefore does not make it a completely fair and balanced news source.

I have family members that are conservatives and used to mainly vote Republican but left the party and now identify themselves as independents because of the extreme elements that are spouting wacked out conspiracys like the one about Obama's birth. They are also not faithful Fox viewers because they feel like it is mainly a one sided image. Now they will sometimes watch Fox but they also watch MSNBC and BBC America and they watch Fox News with a critical eye researching what they perceive as being biased information. They also do not like Glen Beck. My dad who is an old school intellectual libertarian conservative cannot stand the dude at all and is disgusted with the way the man does nothing positive for the nation. He feels the only thing he has done is help divide us along severe ideological lines and that does not serve to make this nation any better.

Every one no matter what country or nation you are from..you are welcome to critique,follow,learn and discuss things about America. You don't have to be an American to express and opinion about what goes on in America. COM is a place made up of women from various countries and backgrounds. There are many members of the US military fighting and putting their lives on the line who are not Ameican citizens. There are many people who are not citizens living in America, paying taxes, contributing to the nations success, crying and feel the twinge of pain when 9/11 rolls around. They take the time to learn about American history and keep up with political events because they care and want to be active contributing citizens.

I don't know I just find the comment....you seem to be very interested in our country..... a bit odd and misplaced, maybe I am taking it the wrong way but then again I take part in discussions about Canadian and Austrialian issues and I have never had a Canadian or Austrailian make such a comment or allude to the idea that I should not be so interested or involved since I am an American citizen.

Just in time to be able to vote for Obama's second term. Oh yeah, and the fact that my son is an American might also have something to do with my interest in his country.

Even if this is not representative of "republicans"...it is representative of a large group of americans, and they terrify me.....I want better for our country than what these people are pushing...secession sounds like the right plan to me...I'll help them pack!!!
