I've just been hearing rumours that it can get to 56C in the summer in Penticton. I'm NOT looking forward to that, 42 was enough for me.



Jen I hadn't even thought of that. There's a place down near Angelica NY where my dad's oldest sister lives that makes their money from the Maple syrup season. This isn't going to go well for them.



We had issues with ice wine here in the Okanagan because temps were staying well above freezing.



Becky, I don't even want to think about -40, I have a friend in Slave Lake who talks about -60 and having to plug her car in and I didn't even like it here when it was -20

Scarily warm. I have grave concerns for the apple and maple syrup crops this year. They need freezing temps to properly produce. It's been in the 30s-40s here in Buffalo and we've had very little snow. That simply isn't good. We need that moisture for the summer months.

Texas. It's been unseasonably warm here. Temps are up and down. One week, it was in the mid 70's (F) and the next week it's in the 50's. It really hasn't gone below freezing at all. But who the heck knows with Texas. One day it could be in the 50's and the next week, it could be in the 20's.

I'm in Calgary, Alberta, and it's been crazy warm here too! We had a lot of snow before Christmas and about a week of -40 temperatures in mid-January, but otherwise, it's been above 0 for most of the winter! I'm certainly not complaining, but it's weird! Cole loves playing in the snow though, so I wouldn't mind if we got just a little more - enough for him to build a snow fort at least once. :) Just no more -40!!

Yeah, I haven't bothered putting Gavin in a bulky snowsuit. A thick blanket over him and the car seat has been enough.

I'm perfectly content to have no snow.

I like not having to take my kids out in negative degrees!

And I love not needing huge coats on the kids too.

It's not safe to put them in bulky coats in their carseats so it's nice it isn't that cold. Besides Fierna loathes hats :-)

I don't know Kate, I have a neighbour from further up in the province (BC) and he loves this weather. Not me, I want some snow that's actually going to stick.



I shouldn't say too much though, back in New York March is when we used to get our worst blizzards and ice storms. When I was in grade 4 (1991) we had an ice storm in Rochester that closed the schools for a week.



Jenni, my parents are having those issues too. I read in the Rochester D&C that I get in my email that the lake is getting too cold to make lake effect snow too.

Same here Laura, in Ontario, Canada. It's been unseasonably warm with hardly any snow. What we have got, melts within minutes to 24 hours. I'm still waiting for winter to arrive! But Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb (so far) have felt more like early spring. Averaging in the 40s. It's hit the 50's a handful of times in January. I actually saw a dude across the street the other day in shorts. :/ Gotta love those spring peepers. We even have panseys still blooming in our garden. I am soooo not complaining, La Niña.

Texas, USA. Been floating around the mid 60s (F) with the occasional dip to lower fifties and the more frequent jump to low 70s.



I hate this weather. It's winter. I want snow. In spring I want this weather. Winter means snow. *grrrr*

Emma, Global warming has been affecting Canada for a while too. We've had to deal with countries trespassing in the Artic portion of our country because of the ice caps melting. Our PM has even had to post some of our military up there.



It's currently -5C up here, very low clouds so the mountains are covered, but no snow.

Here on the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia, it was 30 c and humidity was 88. Hot and sticky. But overall it has been a very mild summer. Has not really gone over 30.

I'm in Perth, Western Australia. Today it got to around 34 degrees. Bit cooler this evening and we've turned the aircon off. Dry dry heat but hasn't been too bad this year. We've only had one heatwave so far and we had some rain last week. Just had fun watering the garden and the small boy with the hose.

RE Global warming it's gotten more humid but not as hot here in the last few years. It hasn't gotten to 42 degrees at all this summer and 2 years ago it was the norm to have 38 degree days all week. Now it's been like 32 at the hottest until the last week ti's been getting to 36.

Ah yes, that is right. How could I forget about that. That was freakin terrible! Yeah, you could let them run fairly wild in Slave lake, it was very nice there, boring yes, small yes but the trees were wonderful. It's terrible the fire cleaned so much of it out and the poor residence, my god, how devestating. I remember it causing terrible smoke damage in the Fort too, people couldn't breath outside. All my friends were saying how bad it was. There was a terrible fire in the Fort back a long while ago (about 15-17 years ago), it was so bad we were only allowed to buy one jug of milk at a time, since the planes were the only way to bring food in to the city, the highway was closed for weeks.... The trees are wonderful but they are a damn natural disaster waiting to happen! Too dry, way too dry up there.. NS has awesome trees, miles and miles of them, just like North AB, but nice and humid here, not many worries of them going up in a wild fire..

LOl I will. But I don't know how many trees I'll see in Slave Lake considering the fire got 60% of the town last year. My friend up there lucked out though and her part of town was the 40% that wasn't damaged. She keeps warning us that we'll be visiting Slave Lake because it's small and boring. DH and I remind her that we've survived staying a few days in Canoe (the town my MIL lives in- which is part of Salmon Arm)



I'd imagine you could let your children play outside in Slave Lake without too many issues. You can definitely do that in Canoe if they're old enough. There's also a few small playgrounds they can walk to. Just not the elementary one because it's just off of Highway 1

Off topic I know but you have me excited! LOL I haven't been back to the Fort for 12 years. I sure miss it there. Had a lot of fun as a teen....hehehee It is not such a good city anymore though, it has turned for the worst with all the money and being so secluded and such. I still keep in touch with many of my friends from there and they ALL want out of there. Drugs have taken over but I would love to go back for a visit... Slave Lake is very nice. You will have lots of fun... Enjoy! Say Meme says Hi when you go! Even if it is just to the Mountains or the trees in Slave Lake. LOL

Meme, DH did syzmic up at Ft McMurray and we have a friend in Slave Lake. We're going over there this year and he is driving through the mountains. I already promised to drive in the big cities (my MIL considers Kelowna to be a large city even though she used to live in Surrey!) since he'll be driving in the Rockies.



Janice, my friend in Slave Lake does that to me about mountains! I was on a 3 way call once with her and my husband and when I started talking about the mountains on the eastern part of NY and in VT she says: I don't mean tall buildings Megan. I can honestly say though that the Canadian Rockies do look impressive- I can see the peaks from Revelstoke when I'm at my MIL's in Salmon Arm.

Oh there are some pretty awesome Mountains in AB and BC, but yes they are North. I remember driving up in them, oh my god sooo scary but sooo much fun! You look down out the car window and there is nothing there, just a complete drop off! You will love them Megan, they are amazing... The Canadian Rockies are definitely a must see... Driving down at the bottom of them is wild too... Awww, now I wanna go see them again! Everyone gets mad (fun mad) at me here because I don't see any mountains that they claim to be, they are all hills. I tell them, if I can walk up it or drive up to the very top, it is no damn Mountain! LOL I mean a "real" mountain has snow at the tip, you often cannot see the tip because it is in the clouds, you cannot drive to the tip, here I can stand on top and it only takes 10 mins to get there! LOL



I am from Fort McMurray AB (grew up and lived there 24 years) and we use to go through Jasper and Banff to get to BC, wow, sooo beautiful!



Now I miss home! ;)

Lol Megan! I have family who live in Colorado. When my cousin came to visit when we were teens she saw a store called Eastern Mountain Sports. She says "Mountains? What mountains?" and I respond "The Adirondacks!" and she says "You call those mountains? Those are just hills!"

IDK about the Canadian ones but the Colorado Rockies are quite impressive.

According to the Weather channel it is currently 28F or -2C and cloudy here in Kelowna. Back home in Rochester it's 45F and sunny.



Meme, I'm waiting to see some impressive mountains here in BC. They're all to the north, south and east of where I live. When I go to my MILs I can see the peaks of the Canadian Rockies up near Revelstoke, but we have wannabe mountains down here. Hell when I got off the plane the first time I came up here (after my final lay over in Seattle where you can see Mt Ranier from the Sea Tac airport) I yelled at DH for lying to me about seeing some real mountains. He'd been scoffing at the mountains back East.

Currently 48F in Albany, NY. We have had more warm (upper 30's/ low 40s F) winter days this year than in any year I can recall recently and less snow too. Last year's snow was brutal! Of course it seems like any day I need to leave the house with my 2 month old its super cold!

I'm in southern Ontario, it's crazy warm here! 5 degrees celcius (41F) and sunny. We haven't really had winter here yet. I've gone out tobogganing with my son almost every single day there was snow. We've been 3 times. THREE!



And now you hear of the terrible blizzards and cold temps in the Ukraine and Bosnia. I think they have our winter on top of their own.



My husband keeps meaning to go ice fishing with his friends, but they can't because the ice on the lake isn't thick enough.



Last winter was awesome, it started snowing in December and we didn't really have a thaw until March, but this winter can hardly be called winter at all. It's all mud and disgusting slush. I made a snowman and in 45 minutes his eyes had melted off (they were black stones) and he fell over. Not impressed.

I LOVE BC!! As a kid we went every single summer. We often went to Okanagan and always visited Ogopogo (Lockness Monster) LOL We went to Penticton every year. It is soooo beautiful there. It is very beautiful here in NS as well, just no mountains, well, some say there are mountains but not like the ones I am use to out West, here, to me, they are big hills! LOL



It is 2 above in Halifax right now... Not too shabby, sure cuts down on the electric bill for heating homes! hehee

I'm not complaining either. DH kept telling me how I'd have to adjust to driving in snowy mountains. We don't drive on the Coquahala, we don't go any further north than Salmon Arm where my MIL and some of her family live. And we stay off of West Ave to make a short cut from Kelowna to Vernon because there is a sheer drop then Okanagan lake. I don't see too much of a difference from back home.



ETA: We've seen people ice skating and fishing on Swan lake near Vernon and I have seen people ice fishing on Wood Lake north of where I live. But the only reason the outdoor rink in Downtown Kelowna is open is because it's right on the lake.

Some of the lakes just became safe enough to skate on in Halifax, NS. The lake beside my house is now ready and a bunch of kids were out skating yesterday. It's been a very mild winter for us as Krista has said. My husband would like more snow, he likes using his snow blower. LOL I am not complaining though, I like mild winters. ;)

I'm in Northwestern Wisconsin (US), and I jsut got back inside after spending about an hour out with the kids in our marvelous 43 F weather! This is incredibly unusual, February is usually a pretty brutal month around here, but I'll take it. Although, it is a little scary.

I'm in Nova Scotia, and it's 1C right now. This winter has been insanely mild. We had a snowstorm last week, and that's the first snow we'd had since Christmas which had stuck around. This whole winter it's been flurry, then melt, then cold, then warm, then repeat the cycle.



It IS nice to have a bit of snow that's sticking around, I have to say. We had our son out in his sled yesterday and he had a blast. And this weekend I might actually break out my snowshoes. Last year was WAY too damn much snow, though. We had a snowfall every three days, it seemed.

I'm in the Okanagan region of British Columbia.



We're supposed to have a temperature of 1C or 33F this time of year and snow. Instead we have a temp of around 5C or 37F (anyone who grew up with celcius please correct me if I'm wrong) no snow and rain at times.



I'm originally from Rochester,NY and my parents have said that there is no snow and the online local newspaper I get from Rochester has said that the lake isn't even the right temperature for lake effect snow.



Lisa, you've always been able to have magnolias up north. My parents have a large tree in their front yard which they planted back in the 70's and there are different species of magnolia in Highland Park and around a lot of the neighbourhoods where I'm from. So it probably is another tree. I hate those damn flowers though, they look so pretty when they first come out, then they fall of and you have nasty brown petals all over your yard.



I have some stuff to say on global warming, but I'll start an actual debate thread for that one. :)

I -think- it was magnolias (could have been some other sub-tropical flowering tree) they were mentioning, that you can now grow up in Pennsylvania, where they couldn't be grown north of South Carolina or something just a few years ago. And a host of others.



You know what I told Matt last October? When we got that freak 2 ft of snow? That I bet that was going to be our winter- we'd get it all over in one shot. And it all melted the next day because it was like 65! I didn't really think I would be right...

I'm in Cornwall, UK.

I am in NH and it is the warmest winter we have ever seen and the least amt. of snowfall possibly in history as well.
