When did you stop changing in front of your kids?

We all change in our rooms but I do not close the door. My daughter may come in to chat for a sec, it doesn't bother me. What I have, she has. She likes her privacy, though (she is 13.5), so she gets it. I don't need to chat with her when she is changing. LOL I KNOW how to wait to chat. ;)



My husband closes the door. My daughter is too old now for him to change in the open.



I never close the bathroom door either. Everyone else in my house does. So, I guess I am lucky. I am Mommy and do not need to close doors. My son is only 17 months, so he has no idea. Now once he is older (not sure what age, guess we will see how it goes. I am guessing by age 5 but I dunno, since he is my first boy), yeah, I will close the doors... **sigh, if I must**



Oh, I do close and "lock" the door when I shower though. That is "me" time and I don't want anyone bugging me!

Rosa, it's funny you said that about your son saying "oh mom gross" because I've already told my husband that the first time my son says something like that, I'm gonna tell him something like, "Well then get out of my room!" It's not like I change clothes in the living room. Often. LOL

My son is 5 I still change, shower etc in front of him. It is no big deal. My niece is 12 when she is over I change in front of her too. I think if the children see it as normal,then it is not that big of a deal. I walk around the house sometimes naked but not usually. I dont know when it is time to stop that, maybe when my son says oh mom gross but I will probably just say look away.

yeah i don't like changing in front of my 15mo baby girl or my husband so....



i started feeling uncomfortable when 1) i never lost the baby weight and 2) when my daughter was able to sit up and crawl around.

While I freely admit to walking around naked after the kids are in bed occasionally (usually only really hot nights when the girls go to sleep in just diapers or undies), walking around naked during the day is a no-no, we get visitors and I don't want to be caught naked and I want my children to understand that clothing is a must for going out, for having visitors etc etc. BUT, my 3 year old still showers with me and occasionally with her daddy as do my 1 year olds and they all see me and my husband change clothing. If I go over to my moms house, to this day, I see her change clothing, closed doors are kind of taboo for us, and the naked body doesn't bother me, even if it's my moms. I havn't seen my dad naked in years, mostly because he gets dressed at the butt crack of dawn and doesn't change until it's dark, so I'm just not there.



It doesn't bother me, probably because i grew up with it. Changing in gym class didn't eek me out either in highschool or middle school, and if showing my kids that their body is natural and normal and not something they need to hide away makes them comfortable in their own skin, then so be it! lol Then again, I should add I grew up with only sisters and I have only girls, I have no idea if I would do things differently with a boy. I think not, but I'm not in that situation, so I have no idea.

First let me say depending on the temps.......the warmer it is the less clothing we wear around the house. Yes we do walk around naked and still do even now that the kids are older. Have 4 kids 2 of each.Oldest is now 20 and youngest is 13. My normal attire for around the house is either panties or nude, same with hubby. I convinced hubby to adopt this dress code after we got married, didn't take much.



The kids have gone through phases of being around us a lot when changing. Sometimes they are there everytime one of us gets changed and sometimes weeks go by and they are never around us as we change. We have taught them though about their privacy outside of our family and that they only remove their clothing at dressing rooms and such ,to change around others and that what they wear or don't wear around home may not be acceptabale at other peoples houses. Also taught them if friends are over everyone has to stay dressed.



Our house rule has always been if the doors open you are welcome to come in....bedroom , bathroom, whereever... but if its closed keep out. Our door only gets closed if we are having sex!





Our kids usually only walk around naked on a quest for clean clolthes, usualy from shower to their rooms or laundry room unless the weather is very hot. Normal attire around the house though is undies. That started years ago when they they started school. To save on laundry I would make them take their school clothes off to try and get an extra day out of them. Most of the time they just didn't bother to redress.



Its funny , we rarely get changed or shower/bathe that we don't have an audience, but our kids though they have no problems being around the house and everyone naked when they get changed or shower/bathe usually do so behind closed doors.



So I guess my response to your questions is that I don't think you ever need to stop changing in front of your kids or walking around naked. If they don't want to look or see they will stop or ask you to. Ours have never asked us to.



It may seem we are a little free but we have never had one instance of trouble because of or home style and our kids are very selfconfident kids with no body issues or hangups.....so far so good

My son is 2 and a half and he'll come into our room when I'm changing or into the bathroom when I'm taking a shower. I don't care. He also likes to cuddle in bed with us, and we both sleep naked. No problems there.
It got a bit annoying at some point when he started pointing at my nipples (and touching them) and asking what they were. I told him, and also said that mommy did not like it when he touches them.
I don't think anything will change till one of us gets uncomfortable.

I walk around our house naked even with 6 kids in the house and my oldest son Romeo is 12 years old still sees me naked or change into clothes.

That sounds exactly my husband's experience with his mother when he was 5. Took baths with his mother until he asked why she didn't have a penis. She called his stepfather to take him away and from then on he showered with his stepfather. When the time came to explain how to clean his uncircumcised penis properly, it was his older brother's job (10 years difference) I don't remember ever seeing my father naked, but I remember at around 13 not wanting to change in front of him. My mother was always running around naked and never closed the bathroom door. I loved because she was a normal sized woman who was not ashamed of her body. It let me know that not all women need to look like models to be comfortable. Plus I knew what my body would look like when I started growing pubic hair and all that. Aside from the nudity thing, she was pretty closed off about body issues so luckily there was a good sex ed program at school. I think for my sister they gave her a book.

When my son was little, he was quite literally attached to my hip - he freaked out when I was out of eyesight. When he was a baby he HAD to be in a bouncy seat facing me when I showered, just so that he could be reassured that I was there (I should point out that I was a single mom and lived in a tiny apartment, the shower would wake him up if he was sleeping - maybe he thought I would fall into the drain?). When he got older and could stand/walk (probably around 2?) I would just put him in the shower with me, SO much easier. Then, the dreaded day came, around 3 when he poked out his index finger at my lady parts and asked me why he and I looked different. Having been raised in a super conservative family, I freaked. All soapy and everything I picked him up, set him on the bath mat, wrapped him in a towel and yanked the shower curtain closed. That was the last time he saw me anything short of fully clothed (he's 12 now). :)

My son is 3 and I never get privacy when changing or using the bathroom lol. My husband thinks the right time to stop was last year. However, my son takes swim lessons at the YMCA (I go in the pool with him) and I feel like as long as I'm taking him into the women's locker room with me afterwards to shower and change, there's no reason to insist on privacy at home. If he's going to see be there when I shower and change at the YMCA, then there's no reason to make a big deal of it at home.

MY 4 year old daaughter has a sences of privicy she wont let daddy help her get dressed because hes a boy and only baby boys should see bobbies (not that she has any) but she also dose not want to be in the room when i get dressed or i dredd her brother. all kids are diffrent so she shows a sence of privacy and there for with her its 4

I haven't stopped dressing in front of him and don't feel like that time will come anytime soon, but I have stopped cuddling with my 23 month old son when I'm naked. If my husband goes to get him in the morning and drops him in the bed to say good morning to me, I just tuck the sheet around me and we snuggle on the pillow together while Daddy gets the diaper ready.

p.s. I love weekends!



edited to say: both my husband and I encourage our son to watch us on the toilet because we're trying to get it into his little skull what potties are for.

Seriously though, my 9 year-old daughter still sees me naked and we've never made a big deal out of it. However, my hubby (her dad) has started being more discrete when changing and he started that about a year or so ago (when her mood swings started). Our younger two are only 4 and 2 1/2 right now, so they could care less about either one of their parents being naked, but since my hubby's been covering up more for the oldest it's gotten to be a habit to do it with the little girls as well. We've never made a big deal out of it though, and we don't plan to.

As for walking around the house naked, hubby stopped doing that about a year ago and I stopped recenty because of living situations (since the move we are living with a family friend and the bathroom is on the other side of the house as the bedrooms...). All the kids still see me naked in my room when I'm changing or if they come in early in the morning, though.

I wouldn't know what to say about little boys though, because I don't have one...

We have 3 boys, 8 year, 3 years and 6 months. We don't really worry about it. I never close the door unless someone is over, sometime I do a nudy run through the house because I run out of nickers.

I dont change in fromt of them and I have 3 girls. They barge in when I am changing to ask silly questions or atttack me with she did this or she said that..I dont walk around the house naked, I prefer clothes on.

i have all boys, and for each child it has been different. with grant i did ti until he was 9ish, for vinnie (who is 7) i did it until he was about 6. lucas is 4 and i occassionally do it in front of him, but i think i've become accustomed to not doing it in front of his brothers so it's slightly uncomfortable for me.
i do pee in front of the youngest two though...

So far it is a non issue in this house. All my kids are way more comfortable being naked than I am. A couple of days ago one of the girls spent the entire day in her underwear. lol



I don't tend to walk around the house naked unless I'm getting ready for a shower and forgot something in another room (or getting out of the shower and need something). We pretty much never shut the bathroom door unless we have company though, so kids are in and out of the bathroom all the time. My son (3 years 8 months.. to be technical) still showers w/ me on occasion, but he prefers to bathe right after me most of the time.



I'll have to let you know if anything changes in the coming years cuz, like I said, for now it's a complete non-issue. ;)



Oh, forgot to specifically mention the changing part...my son's room IS my room, so I'm frequently changing for the day when he is waking up. While he was nursing and up until a couple of months after (been weaned about 5 months now) he would point at me while topless and say 'my baboo'. ♥ lol

My son is only 2, so we have no qualms about being naked in front of him. When he gets a little older, though, I will teach him about bathroom privacy, so that he stops trying to walk in on me when I'm using the loo! But other than that, when he starts acting uncomfortable is when I'll stop.

We do not make an issue of it our boy is 5 and our daughter is 22 months now(holy cow I almost forgot) and if myself or my husband happens to be changing we just do. Same with the shower. If the kids happen to be in the room its no big deal. I think when and if the kids get uncomfortable they will just stop being in our room when we change. They have a WHOLE house they can be in so it is really up to them.

Nakedness is ok in my house. My daughter is almost 7 and I'll change in front of her. I'll also walk naked from the shower to where ever I put my clean clothes, sometimes my room other times, on top of the dryer. No biggie.

My parents never really stopped changing in front of us. It gets hot here in summer, not unusual to just be in undies in our house. I won't be stopping that as my boy gets older, unless his friends come around lol.

Logan is 2 and he doesn't care and I don't care I just get changed I don't make a big show of it if he's in the room. We aren't really people who walk around with nothing on anytime of day. If we get out of the shower the kids are usually in bed anyway.

I have 2 boys and my oldest is 4 and now I am teaching him about privacy for mommy. Part of it is teaching him to leave me alone if I am in the bathroom lol, but alot has to do with knocking before he enters my room without an emergency. I cannot think of any time after my babies were actual babies that I was naked in front of them... and I plan to keep it that way but that is just me

My daughter is not quite 3, so it is a total non-issue for us at this stage. I imagine I will stop if and when she becomes uncomfortable with it, which will probably be around the same time she starts to insist on some privacy for herself (whenever that may be).

I don't know exactly how I would feel, or if I would feel differently, with a boy.
