Why are we given a choice on vaccines???

So only west Virginia and Mississippi require a medical excuse, al other states accept either religious or philosophical excuses.

The most complete, if not completely up to date, chart of which states in the US require which vaccines for which areas, plus which exemptions can be used. In Australia, it doesn't even have to be religious or medical reasons....you can just object on the basis of personal or philosophical reasons, fill in and sign a form to that effect, and that is it. You don't even have to give a reason. I think that is wrong. I think that if you are going to file a Conscientious Objection Form (that's what it is called here), you should have to give a reason for that. Then, there should be someone who assesses those reasons and either accepts it or looks at it as a totally uninformed moron, and therefore send someone around to *actually* explain some of the facts to them.

I think personally it's optional so people can't blame the government and say "it's mandatory so any reactions are your fault".

Some schools have policies that if their is an outbreak of something that most children are vaccinated against, children who are not vaccinated need to stay home

What I can't understand is, if there are ways around not having to get them, such as religious reasons, than why do they require a photocopy of your child's vaccination chart at the school? If it's not 100% necessary, why do they need to see the child is up to date?

You can sign a religious waver and not get your kids the shots, you can homeschool and opt out too. When given a choice, and I think it ought to be, parents are encouraged to look at the latest research ... it changes every few years. I opted to go with most shots, but broke them up, waited on some, did skip some ..... I felt, and my Doc agreeded, that it was the healthy option for my child

well so far Devin has had all but the flu and h1N1 and he will never have to get those.I was wondering why it was being banned ed about like they were an option though.

Technically, in most states in the US, you don't HAVE to get them. There are varying exemptions provided.



And there is always homeschool.

Here in South Africa it is not an option. Vaccines are a must and the government issues them. I don't think it should be a choice, because when things go wrong we are so very quick to blame everyone else except our selves when it does. Vaccines are there for a reason, use them.

You don't *have* to get shots to go to school.

They want you to do it but they can't make you.

It's talked about as mandatory etc, but no one will strap your kid down and force a needle into them without your consent. Or else you could sue them for serious money.



Some people put off the shots while their baby is small, and then do catch up shots once the child is bigger and the parents feels more confident that the risks are minimal.

Other parents skip all shots entirely.



The vaccine book by dr Robert sears is very informative, very educational, and not at all preachy or pushy in either direction.

I recommend it to anyone who is trying to make a decision on vaccines.

I'm probably going feel like swallowning glass is a good idea compared to me putting this info out there but...

You get around the mandatory school shots by claiming religious/moral/health exclusion.
