Would you let your kids sleep naked?

[deleted account] ( 74 moms have responded )

My husband and I sleep naked everynight, and we have 3 boys.A few months ago our two oldest boys Asher 6 years old and Brendan 3 years old asked of they can sleep naked too like mommy and daddy so we said yes whatever makes them feel comfortable at night. But my friends who are moms say they would never let their kids sleep in the nude.

Would you let your kids sleep naked if they wanted to?

I think it is all about respect for each other and what makes one happy and comfy. I have to admit my DD has a very cute tiny little naked butt! :)

My kids have always slept naked if it was hot etc... my only problem is getting them to put some clothes on for breakfast. When they were little I didn't care, but now my 10 year old daughter sits there naked at the table and I have to ask her to put something on. She gets all sulky and grumpy and refuses. I raise my voice. etc etc. You get the picture.

you bet I would. I have since I was 15 and my kids do sometimes, mostly in the summer. I find no problem with it, dont worry about what your friends say, what happens in your home is your business not theirs. If you are comfortable with it then that is good enough :)

I would. So far it's only been in their diaper or underwear when it is really warm, but if they wanted to sleep completely naked, I would have no problems with it. It is in the comfort of their own home, so why not.

It gets HOT here some summers. If they wanted to sleep naked and were potty trained, not a big deal to me. some nights it's miserable unless naked with a fan on. Usually daughter sleeps in panties and a tank top. Son always has diaper on but sometimes that's all he sleeps in and that's fine.

Husband and I used to sleep nude, but with two kids two different genders our comfort level doesn't really let us. Some nights it's hot and he just has boxers right by the bed to get into or i have tank top and boy shorts to grab quick.

It's hot tonight and daughter asked to just sleep in panties. I said that's fine but she needs to pick something to wear until bed time and have clothes set out in the morning. voila, she did it. not a big deal. heck, i'm loving that she's picked her clothes out and ready to go!!

My only issue is that what if there was a fire? Every second counts, and trying to find clothes and dress in a panicked rush would just take too long. Granted, the likelihood of that ever happening is slim, but I'm just one of those worrying types that like to be prepared in case of any emergency.

[deleted account]

I don't care what he wears to bed as long as he has on his undershorts when he comes out of his room. Plus he has to shut his door so I don't go barging in when he's in the nude.

Honestly, what's the big deal?

Not everyone is comfy with nudity and its cool. My boys and I are comfortable being naked infront of each other, and I have friends who aren't comfortable with being naked like that with their kids. Its all cool. :)

@Marisa yeah I agree with you I think it is more about me not being fully comfy with nudity so I try to leave my emotions out of it.

[deleted account]

In my opinion is as long as your daughter is comfortable and your husband is. As she gets older maybe she will express privacy.

I don't see an issue with it really.
My 2.6 yr dd hates clothes, she is a nudest! She does not sleep naked because she is still potty training. To be honest i don't like her always running around naked, but my DH often is naked around the house and I don't like it much, but it is just me...if people are to come over etc I want clothes on my DD that is it, the rest of the day I pick my battles with clothes on or off. The thing is she is comfortable and well that is most important. I myself refuse to run the house naked :) I do however go back and forth as to when it is or not appropriate for my dd and dh to be around each other naked...

I personally wouldn't let my son sleep naked for two reasons. Firstly, he has bad eczema and the more skin he has showing during the night, the more skin that will be bleeding in the morning from his scratching! Secondly, he kicks all his covers off constantly (mainly due to the scratching of his eczema) and I would be worried he would be too cold. We live in England so it is not exactly the hottest place in the world!

My 6 year old every morning comes to breakfast naked and I have to tell to at least put on underwear, like rest of us.

my son did when he was smaller he still would but his dad makes such a big fuss about it. he dont want to because i do he just wants to because he hates clothes. he would be naked in the day if i would let him. i dont see nothing wrong with kids sleeping in the nude, covered with a blanket but thats just me

Completely naked or in undies? I think it's fine to be completely naked, no big deal if they're in their own bed. I DO NOT think it's ok for my husband and I to be completely naked with our kids in the bed with us. That just seems really inappropriate to me. No little girl should ever have to see her father's 'morning wood'. That's just gross. She should never see his penis at all for that matter!

Aside from that, my kids hate to wear clothes but do always wear their undies. It's hard to keep them dressed and really it isn't a big deal. They do know that if we have guests they have to be fully dressed. No walking around in front of guests or daddy's friends in their undies. Again, to me it's just really inappropriate. They need to understand boundaries and modesty of ones body. As for sleeping, they sleep in just their undies most of the time unless it's the dead of winter. That's just how theyre comfortable and that's fine. I dont like wearing clothes to bed either, but I do wear my panties.

OK - about the "airing out your bits" thing. Do you wear underwear to bed (for those of you who don't sleep naked)? I do NOT and for some reason that totally grosses me out to think of wearing it to bed.

[deleted account]

Marisa, it's the same in my house at any time of year it's a constant battle to get clothes on them during winter when it's so damn cold!

[deleted account]

My only problem is to get them to put something on for breakfast, they want to come to eat naked.

My family was never interested in sleeping nude. Son actually doesn't like it and gets mad even if he wears just his underwear, he wants his pajamas on. Same with my 14 yr old... I definitely would hate to be evacuated in a fire and not have any clothes on.

It's my favourite way to sleep so I wouldn't stop my kids from doing so. She's already down to just a diaper at night. I imagine once toilet training has been completed she will be sleeping in the nude in no time. Perhaps it runs in the family.

Sure. Provided they're potty trained! LOL

Really though, what's it to me how they sleep best?

My husband and I sleep naked as we find it more comfortable so why should I deny my kids the right? I would only say no if we had people staying overnight.

I have no problem with it and my sons sleep naked pretty much all the time. I do as well. As others have stated, we have no issue with nakedness in our home and often go around naked, in addition to sleeping naked. No big deal and perfectly natural and healthy.

And yes, they've come to my bed naked, when I'm naked as well. Vice versa too - I've gone to their bed while naked and they're naked.

NO!!

now ask me why?

miss paranoid stress head that I am - what if there was an emergency in the middle of the night and we had to run outside? I would rather that everyone at least have underwear on, lol!

[deleted account]

I'd have zero problems if my son wanted to sleep naked once he gets the hang of going potty on the toilet.

I've never liked sleeping naked though. I always get too cold. I sleep year round under a comforter, even in summer. I do also get to "air out my bits" though, since I never wear undies : P Love that phrase. Air out the bits lol

[deleted account]

My youngest, when teething, does not sleep very well at all and when i'm up every 2 hours even now that he is 10 months i really couldn't be stuffed putting clothes on.

I put undies on when I get up to get Logan out of bed and sometimes Logan comes into our bed at 5 and I usually have undies on. I don't really feel comfortable naked with him in our bed.

[deleted account]

Here's a question though: If you sleep in the nude and they come into your bed midway through the night (which my boys often do), would you be comfortable with all of you being in the bed together nude? That would not feel right to me. Not sure why, maybe I'm just a little prudish, but I'd be really uncomfortable with that. Although I had no problem with skin to skin when they were newborns...

I am not uncomfortable with my boys and I being naked in bed together I don't see a problem with it. Also I don't bother putting on a robe when they call for me in the middle of the night I run naked across the house to their room to see whats wrong.

Well, at this age, I wouldn't let them sleep completely nude, but that's because one is still in diapers and the other still in a pull-up at night. I'd be up all night changing sheets! But, when they're older and fully potty-trained, yeah, sure. If that's how they're most comfortable and sleep the best, then, why not? Dh sleeps that way. I did when we first go married, but stopped since we had kids, because I'm not comfortable getting up with them in the night without something on. Plus, I get cold! I've always been one to wear jammies to bed, really.

My daughter hasn't asked yet but I can not think of any actually good reason why not. On particularly hot summer days she slept in just her diaper when she was a baby. In the winter time, I might insist on at least a top and socks, lol, for warmth though.

Gotta wear at least chonies. Hubby & I mostly sleep naked. Chonies are the minimum.

[deleted account]

My boys are usually naked an hour before bed time anyway b/c after baths or showers they like to go around naked in the house.

[deleted account]

I used to sleep naked but not so much now that i'm single. During summer i would always sleep naked but now what if someone comes to my door and i don't have clothes nearby? The kids on the other hand during summer sleep naked and during winter they would also except it's to freaking cold.

Yes, mine do off and on. It's not a big deal. I do about half the time but my husband always sleeps naked. They come by it honestly. haha.

[deleted account]

Sharon, that is usually how one of my girls ends up naked. She sleep walks to the bathroom and 'can't' get her pants back up (I've watched before while waiting for the toilet). It's one of the reasons I've been so hesitant to allow sleepovers, but she's assured me it's something she only does HERE.... lol

my son loved to sleep naked. Every night after his bath I would put him in his jammies, and every morning I'd go get him and he'd be naked...I caught him pressed up against his window one night naked just checking what was going on...what a weirdo

Nudity is never an issue in our home ever, but for whatever, reason jammies before bed every night - creature of habit I guess

[deleted account]

We have no problem with nudity in our home. My son hasn't worn pajamas since he was about 18 months old. Now at 6 , he sleeps in his underpants like his Daddy, but somehow every single night, after going to the potty in the middle of the night, he wakes up butt-naked. Not an issue in our home.

This is probably TMI but when I was a kid my mom had me sleep with no underwear on to "air" myself out and not be so confined.

I would probably let my kids sleep naked if they wanted to, why not? Sometimes it's just too hot.

I think it depends on the weather. I wouldn't let them sleep naked in winter. I remember when my sister and I had chicken pox when we were about 6. We were "allowed" to sleep nude. But I don't think I ever wanted to sleep nude in front of my parents.

yeah absolutely if it was hot. God last summer my cooling wasnt working on my air con only the actual air we had some HOT days and my daughter was crying til midnight not able to sleep even in just a nappy and with me wetting her body and hair constantly so yeah definately would. I like to keep my kids pretty comfortable so now I have refrigerated aircons in my girls rooms and heaters for winter , but I do think its so cute when my bub is just in a nappy for sleep.
