You find $100, what do you do?

Keep it. What's the bank going to do with it besides a) get $100 richer b) one of the staff get $100 richer. If I just left $100 in an ATM I wouldn't expect someone to hand it in so I wouldn't even ask the bank and unless I saw who was at the ATM last walking away I would just keep it. If I saw who it was I'd chase them and give it to them.

If it was the cash machine at the actual bank, I might hand it in I guess. If it was a cash machine at a supermarket or whatever, and there was clearly no-one around.........I would just take it!

Sorry, sounds bad, but if I'm being honest, that's what I'd do.

About 5 years ago, I had my car in for an oil change. On the way, I had stopped to buy a $750 money order for our rent. While I was waiting for the car to be ready, I decided to clean my wallet out. Tucked under my left leg was the "keep" and under my right leg was the "trash". So I clean my wallet out, car's ready, I go home. On the way home I stopped to drop off the rent to our landlord and......HOLY SHIT WHERE IS THE MONEY ORDER??? I must have accidentally put the money order under the wrong leg. So I immediately called the Hyundai service center to let them know what was going on. That was my first mistake, expecting them to be honest. I then hauled ass back to the shop, went through the garbage can in the waiting room AND their dumpster because, according to them, they had taken out the garbage after I left. Looking back, I know that when I called, someone took the money order out of the garbage and kept it, then took the garbage out to cover their ass. Because of that one thing, we ended up getting evicted from the apartment too. Our landlord was ok with us being a month behind but expected us to make it up and get caught up but we never had the extra $750 to make up for it.....THANKS asshole at the garage!

Wow.ya making me feel like less than a saint ladies..ATM..okay, maybe I'd turn it on, I'm pretty sure if I forgot 100 at the ATM I wouldn't expect anyone to turn it in so I probably wouldn't Even ask the bank if someone did. If I find it a parking lot etc., I would probably keep it, don't know what it makes me except honest...

I love when I'm chasing someone down yelling "Sir, sir" or Ma'am, ma'am", then they turn to you looking like you're nuts, only to have their face change completely when they realize you've gone to great lengths to return something they dropped. Whether it be a wallet, money or just the other day, a credit card.

A few weeks ago i took my rent and grocery money out of the bank and started walking down to the store. I dropped my wallet. Good thing a nice lady seen it happen and chased me down to give it to me. Nothing was taken out of it. If i didnt get it back i would have been screwed.Nice people are awesome :)

I have found wallets full of cash and other assorted tempting things many times. I found a wallet with $600 in it at a concert once. My friends were pissed I turned it in to security. They were trying to convince me security would just loot the cash so I may as well.



When I was about 16 my mom's purse was left on the side of the road after it fell off of the top of my uncle's truck and it was found there with the cash removed. That cash was the money she had just removed from her ATM to pay our rent and buy our groceries for the month. She was a widow working for $9.50/hr to take care of my brother and myself. It was a VERY tough month and I really hope they needed it more than we did. I would never dream of taking anything from someone else and will do whatever I can to return it.

I would turn it in. I think it's just the honest thing to do. Years ago, I actually did find a $100 bill on the floor at JCPenney and gave it to the manager. She took my contact info and said if no one came back to claim it, she'd give it to me. Two days later I got a call from JCPenney, saying to come pick up the money. There was an older woman in the office when they called me in and apparently she was the "owner" of the money and wanted me to have it anyhow, just for being honest. She wasn't in need of it (I think she was a little on the wealthy side) and it had just slipped out of her wallet when she had put her credit card away. I walked away from the whole thing $100 richer and knowing I had done the right thing. I also found a $100 billl under a pool table one night when I was cleaning up at a bar I used to work at. I tried to give it to my boss in case someone came back for it but he looked at me like I had horns or something lol He told me to keep it, and I did, but I always felt guilty about it lol

If I found it somewhere like the bank or on the floor of the grocery store where I could easily turn it in, I would. Bottom line, it's not mine. If I found it on the street in the middle of nowhere where there was nowhere to turn it in, I'd keep it. I like to think I'd give it to charity because I think that would be the right thing to do, but in reality, I'd probably spend it on myself!

If I knew it was going to get back to the person who lost/forgot it, yes I would hand it in, if it were found of the ground, no id, I would probably take it and buy food and donate it to the food bank. I never keep found money for myself, even change, we pick it up and drop it into the nearest collection box for the animal shelter, abused womens shelter etc. etc. I believe in Karma and I try not to do anything intentionally negative that might one day come back to bite me in the ass.

i found $140 on the ground in a parkinglot once. i turned it in to the store even though i know for a fact (i work for the company) that they just keep the money if no one shows up asking for it.
i also found $140 (same amount, yes i know weird) in a bar once. i kept that shit without hesitation. i know, horrible, but meh.
i would never keep money if i saw someone drop it, or if it had an ID with it. the parkinglot money was very tempting but i turned it in. for some reason the bar money didn't seem so important to turn in.

If it was hanging out of an ATM, I'd hand it in. Obviously someone left it there, and the chances are they would go back to the bank and claim it. There is somewhere to be able to hand it in, so I don't think there is really any excuse to keep it.

Blowing down the street in the wind? Well, who could you possibly hand it in to? I guess there is always the chance that you could give it to charity, given it wasn't yours in the first place......

I opened this thread prepared to say that I would pay an overdue bill with it...but, if it was sticking out of an ATM, I would turn it in...they would know who made the last transaction, and they could get it back to the person...

hand it in. i remember when i was little mum accidentally left some money in the atm. i'm sure she needed it but some one had taken it instead of handing it in.
